Virtually no wrestlers have one mentor who taught them EVERYTHING they know. Backlund wouldn't have been as magnificent as he was without Verne's guidance during Bob's tenure in the AWA. He was a mentor to Backlund. One of many, but a mentor none the less. Im not going to speculate on how many mentors he had. One would think he would have many, but who knows. When I asked him who trained him at the CAC 7 years ago, he said Eddie Sharkey. He said a lot of things, but was quite clear on who his trainer was. Never mentioned Verne. I bet he learned from Verne, but I wouldnt be so arrogant to speak about crap I dont know for sure. You should really pick up Hornbakers book on the National Wrestling Alliance. Sharkey gets his nod in regards to his influence. I dont know why you want it to be Verne. Just going to wait for your overdramatic, thesaurus prepped answer, touting the feats of people you've only seen on tape, and admired through the eyes of someone else. I didn't want the answer to be anything different than the truth. Verne deserves credit for the wrestlers he helped groom. If he learned more from the man who broke him in, then that's what happened. If I came off as arrogant, then I apologize. I had a mental lapse. But a better question would be just how old are you? What on earth does it mean to "admire someone through the eyes of others?" It literally sounds like something a theist just made up, & I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with being born in a later than other things. No sensible person demonizes evolutionary biologists for not having eye witness accounts, which is the least credible form of evidence the majority of the time, anyway. I completely admit I forgot about Ed Sharkey, because I'm sad about Verne's passing. When I watch Bob, I traits that wouldn't be as prominent without Verne & his contemporaries. I'm sorry. However, I'm not sorry that either my vocabulary is so fluid(or most likely chaotic and infatuated with secondary definitions) to make all of you believe I ever use a thesaurus of any kind; digital or paperback. I love words & perversely, prosaic, antiquated language. So stop complaining about it. Embarrass me about comma splices as much as you please, because I'm notoriously bad about it.

I'm pretty sure Bob Backlund has a severe metal illness. With that said, I really hope some nut job interrupts my funeral to cut a heel promo. This. Sadly, I won't be surprised if he Benoits his family or does something along the lines of it. Come on man...what a nasty thing to say about someone you don't know

if this is true that is an extremely classless move by Mr. Backlund.

I'm sure he did it with good intent, maybe as some sort of tribute, but is too senile to realize it really wasn't appropriate. Who the hell knows though.
On a related note, I briefly met Bob at a Smackdown taping last May when he was just randomly standing around the concession area, and he seemed pretty normal, and wasn't in character at all.

That seems like something Iron Sheik would do. On a side note I'm gonna tell this to my business teacher since he knows Bob Backlund

I know you're trying to show "lol, he's crazy" but try to do that knee gimmick. It's a very legitimate squat exercise and it's not easy to do by any means. Chris Hero used to do them as a taunt as well.

As noted, a story was circulating last week claiming WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund “cut a heel promo” during Verne Gagne’s funeral, and the incident was described as feeling “very out of place, to say the least.”
The promo was reportedly cut during Greg Gagne’s eulogy at the funeral, but Robert Miller, the co-author of Backlund’s upcoming autobiography, posted a lengthy response to the incident on the Kayfabe Commentaries message board.
The entire post is as follows, and Miller goes by the handle “Backlundcollector” in the Kayfabe Commentaries forums:

That's good to hear, but the 'naming the Presidents in order before you get an autograph' is still a tad much I reckon...

Nice knowing it was a false report. The big giveaway should have been the lack of videos on this. If Backlund went crazy in a public setting, you can bet someone would have posted a video. Backlund should sue for defamation.
