I've just begun selling on EBay and I've already had 2 buyers not pay for or communicate with me on the same item. Is this a form of trolling?
Anyone else have this problem and some tips to avoid it?

Really no way to avoid it. I would say put in the description about people who have less than so much feedback to message you first.
That's the only thing that sucks about eBay. You can choose who to buy from, but you can't choose who buys from you, to a certain extent. That and the fact that you can't leave negatives for buyers
Also, don't forget to use the unpaid item case so you dot get charged the fees for unpaid for items.

I've had that problem multiple times as well. unfortunately, short of reporting them to ebay, theres not much you can do. you cant even leave them negative feedback, sellers can only leave "positive" or "ill leave feedback later" on buyers...
Make sure you open unpaid item cases on them or ebay will still charge you fees

Ditch auctions and use buy it now, you can request immediate payment by checking the relevant box in your listing, that stops it, for auctions, there is no way.

After selling a few items via eBay early this year, I'm officially out of that game. Several people couldn't pay after bidding on an item, which is understandable but its time consuming. I had one person after not paying for 3 days, I sent a message asking if they needed more time to pay, they went ballistic. The person gave me negative rep and it took eBay about a month to remove it. Even when you properly list your item and add all details in the description tab, folks still don't read it.
My advice to you is to be as detailed in the description, photos (any damage, etc) and any correspondence you may have with the buyer as possible. If eBay has to look back on an unpaid or canceled order, the more details the better. Also, make sure you open an unpaid case if the buyer doesn't pay, that'll save you from having to pay any fees.

But It Biw with Best Offer is the best option I would say.
You can put the max you want for it and if a buyer offers a price, you can factor in feedback, how long they've been a member, etc.

you can set "blocks" for who bids on what... its at the bottom of the item description page. (block bidders with 4 UPI in 6months etc..) i do this and always get like 400 plus feedback users buying my stuff. ive had some issues but i think the fees is what bothers me more, i feel like i sell stuff for free sometimes just to reimburse ebay thier fees for selling it for me..lol. i dunno its messy.

That way, if they are a reputable buyer, they'll more than likely pay within a few hours of you accepting it

I may or may not work for a major bank. I see bums all the time making eBay purchases that drop their accounts negative or us refusing payment (which we do all the time because we won't take a hit for you) because they don't have enough funds to cover it. Then they complain that we're not paying it. Uh, because you have no money to buy things with, you idiot.
I'm assuming the people bidding and not paying are the same morons who have no money to bid with and don't make the connection that they need money to buy things. I, for one, never bid on things unless I have disposable income with which to purchase things with. I'm sorry you have to deal with the dregs of society, but THEY'RE EVERYWHERE.

I usually transfer a specific amount toy paypal at the beginning of every month. If I run out, that's it until the next month. I don't even do instant transfers.

I do about 100 transactions each month on ebay, and about 25% of people don't pay, and about 70% of international buyers don't pay (mostly because they don't look at the actual shipping and import fees first)

When I sell, I do a BIN with immediate payment. Occasionaly someone asks me to waive the immediate payment and I will oblige because I feel at least they made the effort to contact me. Surprisingly, I never had anyone not pay with in 24 hours using this method. you can set "blocks" for who bids on what... its at the bottom of the item description page. That kills me. A couple months ago I sold a loose Big Boss Man and all the money went to cover fees.

People also will run up actions just so it will help there item sell. If it shows the last couple of "x" items/wrestlers ect, so for $40 for example, and they sell the same one, they are hoping there's goes for $40 and someone pays it

I had this problem for years. I started putting "BUYER MUST PAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE!!!" in bolded font. That has worked every single time recently so i suggest you do that.

I'm currently going through a non-paying bidder case myself right now. Seems like every time I list a few things on eBay, I get at least one deadbeat who never pays. It's such a hassle having to wait two days to even open a case, then another four days before you can close it and relist the item. Deadbeat buyers like that should have no more than 24 hours after a case is opened to send payment. But, eBay loves to screw sellers like that it seems. I once sold a custom painted NES that I just couldn't get to function properly all the time - worked sometimes, but not all the time and I put that in big, bold letters in three different places in the listing. Once the buyer got it in the mail, the opened a case against me siting that the NES didn't work properly all the time. And despite it clearly stating that very same thing multiple times in the listing before the buyer even bid, eBay sided with them and charged my paypal account for the refund. Took me about three hours on the phone and one outright demand that a manager actually read the listing description before they'd reverse the decision and give me my money back.
Sadly, stuff like that happens way too often on eBay nowadays. It's not like it used to be for sellers. And it won't ever get any better. eBay makes more money off ad revenue and power seller store subscriptions than they ever will on normal seller fees, so they don't really care about the folks who just sell stuff from time to time.
That said, there are ways to block certain bidders/buyers from your items and you can set some general parameters on bidders. But, as mentioned above, the most effective way is just to do it with a Buy It Now or Best Offer listing. Costs the same to you either way and you'll weed out most the deadbeats right away.

I've been selling on eBay for a few years. I've ran into a dozen or so sketchy buyers that either take a week to pay or just disappear off the face of the Earth.
I put their names in the 'banned buyers' area, so they can't buy from me in the future.

I've never sold anything before on ebay, only a buyer. But I've seen some people purposely run up costs on an auction just to ruin it for other bidders. Or sometimes sellers get someone to bid up for them if they know there's a bidder who really wants an item and is willing to keep bidding higher.
I can imagine though with all the HoF figures hitting, there's probably people kicking themselves for buying high now that there are a good bit of them for a decent price.
