I'm currently going through a non-paying bidder case myself right now. Seems like every time I list a few things on eBay, I get at least one deadbeat who never pays. It's such a hassle having to wait two days to even open a case, then another four days before you can close it and relist the item. Deadbeat buyers like that should have no more than 24 hours after a case is opened to send payment. But, eBay loves to screw sellers like that it seems. I once sold a custom painted NES that I just couldn't get to function properly all the time - worked sometimes, but not all the time and I put that in big, bold letters in three different places in the listing. Once the buyer got it in the mail, the opened a case against me siting that the NES didn't work properly all the time. And despite it clearly stating that very same thing multiple times in the listing before the buyer even bid, eBay sided with them and charged my paypal account for the refund. Took me about three hours on the phone and one outright demand that a manager actually read the listing description before they'd reverse the decision and give me my money back. Sadly, stuff like that happens way too often on eBay nowadays. It's not like it used to be for sellers. And it won't ever get any better. eBay makes more money off ad revenue and power seller store subscriptions than they ever will on normal seller fees, so they don't really care about the folks who just sell stuff from time to time. That said, there are ways to block certain bidders/buyers from your items and you can set some general parameters on bidders. But, as mentioned above, the most effective way is just to do it with a Buy It Now or Best Offer listing. Costs the same to you either way and you'll weed out most the deadbeats right away. I've been an adult for 12 years now and the real world has taught me one lesson that it reinforces over and over: Most people are utterly stupid and ruin it for the rest of us. I feel like Hank Hill at least once a week.

I put in my description buyers with 0 feedback do not bother bidding or bid will be deleted. And they still bid and I delete the bid and block them. I have a huge list of 0 feedback users blocked. It also gives the people with good feedback who are actually trying to win and are going to pay a better chance at a better deal. I'm trying to avoid selling on ebay now though the fees are too much. I've been taking stuff to comic stores for store credit or money.

When I sell on ebay, I always sell everything using the best offer feature, that way buyers feel they're getting a deal and usually pay. I've only had one person not pay ever, and it sucks ebay doesn't really do anything about it. Never sell with a buy it now on.

Best Offer is prone to insulting lowball offers Yeah, it doesn't always stop the lowballing, but I usually put something like "serious offers only, otherwise I'll auto decline.

I've never sold anything before on ebay, only a buyer. But I've seen some people purposely run up costs on an auction just to ruin it for other bidders. Or sometimes sellers get someone to bid up for them if they know there's a bidder who really wants an item and is willing to keep bidding higher. I can imagine though with all the HoF figures hitting, there's probably people kicking themselves for buying high now that there are a good bit of them for a decent price. I've had suspicion's about that when l've bid on item's.

The thing that I hate about make an offer is that, from my experience, the seller has their profit in mind and if you don't go in making an offer that hits that number, they're going to decline.
Don't get me wrong, I totally understand that, but then don't bother with the offer option. Just set a reserve instead, or Buy it Now price

The real trolls are the guys who make customs, and bid with different accounts just to make their customs cost a lot.

you can set "blocks" for who bids on what... its at the bottom of the item description page. (block bidders with 4 UPI in 6months etc..) i do this and always get like 400 plus feedback users buying my stuff. ive had some issues but i think the fees is what bothers me more, i feel like i sell stuff for free sometimes just to reimburse ebay thier fees for selling it for me..lol. i dunno its messy. THis is my problems with some sellers. Now, what is ebay...I originally thought, ebay was about folks selling unwanted items. It seems ebay in reality, the sellers are selling items they still want(Wanted to resell eventually), a marked up price, compared to the original price at the retailer. In essence, re-sellers and scalpers seem to be running ebay. I see your point, but ebay is of items you want to get rid of. SO I purchased AUstin in 2010 and outgrew it, instead of throwing it away, I am selling it for whatever I can get. It seems now, ebay is people buying Austin and trying to flip it for 4 times the original price.People should be happy to get a dollar profit or so, for items that originally went in the trash.

If they bid and win them, how does this help? lol basically you have the seller winning his own bid and can just "cancel" the transaction. He pays nothing as the buyer and seller after the cancel order. so he can keep hiking the bid and if worse comes to worse he wins his own item. Ebay will catch them doing it or if you see report it, but it does and has happend.. a person on this board is accused of doing it , but i wont call him out.
