On top of moving, finishing up film stuff, and getting ready to head Esat for new film stuff, I've decided that I need to catch up on some movie viewings.
One must always remain a student, after all. So I'm making sure to watch at least one movie a day that I've never seen.
5/11/15 - Blink
I'm currently working on a paranormal script, where the lead character is blind. The first movie anyone had come to mind was this one, so I had to check it out to make sure I wasn't making the same movie. Luckily The Conjuring has more in common with my concept than this movie does, but I still found it entertaining. Had a lot of charm, and humor. But admittedly, it irked me that the movie really read like a 90 minute long blind joke.
Still, wasn't awful, though.
5/12/15 - Jurassic World
I thought the movie was a blast. The color grading (the blue orange look) didn't quite fit it, at times -- and I really do miss the animatronic dinos at times...but it was a blast. There were definitely points throughout that it had the original's heart back, and I felt like I was 6 seeing the first again. Plus Chris Pratt is a legit movie star, and I enjoy the guy's work, immensely. Plus the raptor pack aspect surprised me a great deal, in a positive manner.
My biggest problem with this one is that people really just can't seem to go to the movies and enjoy themselves anymore. Go and have fun. Not everyone is a critic, or film student. Not everyone has to tear apart every minute detail of a movie ALL the time. The movie was fun. That's all it needed to be.
5/13/15 - The Heat
Melissa McCarthy pisses me off so much in previous movies. But I had someone insist recently that she deserved a fair shake, and you know what? The Heat made me rethink my dislike of her. She does have her potential. Plus, you can never go wrong with Sandra Bullock.
5/14/15 - The Exorcist
I know, I know. Who hasn't seen The Exorcist? Well, to be honest -- there was always something off-putting about this movie to me. Something inherently dark in it. But, as I said, must be a student. I can see why a lot of horror filmmakers consider it an influence, but it just didn't do it for me. Slow paced, and the climax wasn't a good enough pay off. I'll stick with Halloween/Jaws/Universal Monsters as my classic horror influences.
Thoughts from anyone that has seen any of these?
