To me its all about the different Eras or what era that got you into wrestling.
For an example in the 80s mostly Hogan in the 90s definitely austin and in the 2000s I would say Cena. Those 3 pretty much made WWE who they are today.

Irs hard to judge, I mean todays product differs so greatly from the 90's and 80's. I think you can't include people who are still active either, I mean you get guys like Flair who throught his career was one of the most respected men in pro-wrestling, then he went to TNA and became a bit of a joke imo.
Plus its all gonna be opinion based, unless by #1 you mean business wise, who made the most money, who main evented the most, its too hard to judge.

I always say Austin renovated the house Hogan built. So I'd go with one of them.

Torrie Wilson all the way!
JK
Hulk Hogan would be my answer, because of what he did in the 80's. Not only that but when he came back to WWE he was able to get reactions above people like Austin and Rock in 2002 and showed that he could still go in the ring. Hulk did so much and his career has had so many chapters that it is hard for me to say anyone else. I would give Austin 2nd place though because he was the main reason WWE did not go under in the Monday Night War. I was a Nitro fan back then, but I always flipped the channel to see what old Stone Cold was up to when he was on the screen.

Hogan/Austin. Flip a coin. Without those 2, WWE wouldn't never made it out of the territory era and WWE would have been put out of business.

I feel like its got to be Hogan. Between his longevity in industry impact affecting both the 80's and then the 90's with the N.W.O, as well as overall recognition and achievements. Austin has a case but I think it's hard to go past Hogan whether you're a fan of him or not

Stone Cold Steve Austin for me. The guy completely turned the business on his head and was one of the main catalysts in turning WWE's fortunes around when they were in real trouble against WCW. Add in the incredible charisma and being able to work a damn good match telling a great story. Austin also made the company a fortune through merchandise sales and selling out arenas all over the country. For me Austin is the number one player in WWE history.

I think you have to split it up by era....because, what info/stats are we using to determine what makes a #1?
To me, these are the breakdowns and the number 1's of their respective eras.
Bruno Sammartino - 60's - 70's Hulk Hogan - 80's - early 90's Steve Austin/The Rock - Attitude Era (late 90's) John Cena - PG Era

I don't see how you could be wrong by saying either Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold. I'm partial to Austin, being someone who came into it during the Attitude Era, but to deny Hogan because of that would be crazy.
