Why does he get a lot of hate? I remember I started watching in mid 97 and getting old tapes from 96 I saw Ahmed and I enjoyed his work.
Re watching raw and I'm in 96 and I still enjoy his character and all. His promos might be a little off and hard to understand but so is bookert lol.
I know his injuries messed up career in the wwf as late 97 came along he looked huge.
I think he was a great ic champ. Was that kidney injury real? Or kayfabe

The kidney injury was real, just I really doubt it was caused by Faarooq but more so steroids.
I remember Ahmed won the battle royal in 96 on Raw to face WWE Champion Shawn Michaels, but because of his injury Goldust got the match instead.
Also, I remember hearing rumours that Ahmed was a pimp and used to make his ladies lick his butt after a dump thus using the girls tongues as toilet paper. Freaking gross!! I doubt it's really true, but that's the rumour I heard a lot back in like 1999 I wanna say.

Because he was sloppy & dangerous in the ring?
Although his promos, as much as they didn't make sense, were entertaining.
But the thing I remember most about him is that he was the shiniest ******* ever to be hired by WWE.

Was pretty terrible in the ring and a chore to watch. I still have nightmares over his rivalry with Farooq & the nation.

he was ginormous in his later run in wcw. a weird combo of fat and muscle.
i never really liked his character but the wwf was clearly heavy for him in 96/97.
i can't help but think of the story involving him, sunny and candido.

Ive also heard the Pimp rumor. Like others said, he was always injured or hurting other guys. He was putting on some weight near the end of his WWF run. Remember him as Big T in WCW? Holy Smokes

Pretty much what has already been said.....he was awful in he ring, reckless with his opponents, he always seemed to get himself injured, and his promos were incoherent. I literally could understand 1 out of every 10 words he said. I'm not saying he wasn't TRYING or that he was doing things on purpose....but he just wasn't very good at ANYTHING that it takes to be a Sports Entertainer. And when he started getting fat, that was just the icing on the cake of the end of his career.

Sums him up IMO. HOWEVER....I did enjoy him briefly and I would 100% buy a figure of him.

Ahmed Johnson October 1995 - August 1996 was pretty impressive, and enjoyable to watch.
Ahmed Johnson from January 1997 - February 1998 was brutal, injury prone and winded.
I do remember Ahmed tried to become a giant knee pad. He had on like 3 sets of knee pads on each leg it seemed by the time 1998 came around. I really don't know why either, but he seemed to enjoy knee pads.

I always shook my head at his attempts to get the crowd saying "you're going down". Just hard to believe that was the best thing he could come up with. I thought he was a nice addition to the show but definitely nothing special. His size was all that he really had working for him, very sloppy in the ring and obviously no master of the mic.

He was really over thru mid 1996, and at the time I really dug him. His look, his attitude, and he had pretty good athleticism for a guy that size. He was doing dives over the top rope! I thought he was awesome at his peak, and I wish he had avoided so many injuries and had a full IC title reign. I thought he could have had a better run as a member of the Nation too. They kinds of short circuited that run early on (and he may have gotten hurt again at this time too)
