Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter John Laurinaitis worked as the producer and head agent for WWE's recent tour of Tokyo, including the "Beast In The East" WWE Network special. Laurinaitis is the one who came up with the idea to use streamers before the NXT Title Match with Finn Balor and Kevin Owens with the idea it would give the show a unique Japanese flavor. Laurinaitis also booked the pre-match ceremony where the women in kimonos presented flowers to both Balor and Owens. WWE did send a production crew to Tokyo to air the show but they saved on costs by not using the normal setup and production that they use for pay-per-view events. The live WWE Network special was considered to be a major success. WWE officials are already looking at doing more Network-exclusive specials, likely in better timeslots as this show began at 5:30am EST.People Power lives. Europe may never get a WM because of time differences but things could be looking up for a few live broadcast PPV worthy events. Rejoice UK! Your time is coming!

If I recall, John Laurinaitis was the main guy that was booking WCW during its last couple of months when the WCW product was slowly improving. Plus, with his history of working in All Japan for many years, it would make sense for him to be in charge of booking the show. Big Johnny might not be great at having an eye for talent, but he has enough knowledge to book a decent wrestling program. IT'S PEOPLE POWER TIME!

Makes sense considering he wrestled in Japan for years and years.
It boggles my mind how someone could book such an awesome NXT title match and such a pitiful tag team main event though.

I still need to watch this. Watch Neville vs. Jericho and Owens vs. Balor for sure. Lesnar vs. Kofi is fun and short. Divas match is ok when Tamina isn't in the ring. Main event is garbage. I watched about 3 minutes and turned it off. The real main event is the NXT title match.

He did a decent job. Fair play to him.

It was a great show. My only complaint is the NXT title match should have closed the show. They kept promoting it and it had the highest stakes. While the tag match kinda dragged. Exactly how I feel.

Title matches in Japan usually have streamers thrown anyway, as well as flowers given by idols in kimonos. Or used to, at least.
It was good to see that, and for Big Johnny to draw upon his time in All Japan.

as far as I was concerned the NXT match did close the show - no way I was watching cena, nziggler and crew after that match. I watched to see if Owens would attack Cena. I was disappointed

I think the UK has got to be their next option for a Network special. It gives them the chance to have special PPV type events without the pressure of time difference being too important.

Why did he book Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston? It's been explained a bunch. Brock was taking a trip to see a friend in Japan anyway and chose to do a quick match for the WWE so he could get paid for the trip. Reportedly he requested to work with Kofi Kingston. Kofi is a heel that could bump for him and not have his character hurt by getting squashed in a few minutes. Oh, ok. I meant like why Kofi in particular (not necessarily why Lesnar was working at all), but thanks!

I really liked the show, but having such a throw away tag match go on last really irritated me.

Other than the matches all being ass backwards it was great. Jericho vs Neville Cena and Co womens match NXT title match Brock vs Kofi
thats the way imo it should have been.

If John ing Laurinaitis can book a show that good, it makes you wonder how incompetent Dunn is What a strange non-sequitur. Kevin Dunn isn't, and never has been, a booker.

So it was just a random "lol I hate Kevin Dunn" post? Kevin Dunn has been in charge of WWE's television product for many, many, many years. If you think that makes him the booker, then he's responsible for the attitude era and every good show ever since as well as the bad ones.

d Was there really matches after the nXT title Yes, They had a tag match with Cena and ziggler vs Kane and King Barrett after the NXT championship match. That's funny we just turned it off after the Balor win!
