I have mixed emotions on the Venom casting....
On one hand, I love Tom Hardy. Been a fan of his for awhile now and that increased when I found out we were born on the exact same day. If anyone could make this somehow work, it would be him.
But on the other, I was hoping that Sony would wait and let the SM:HC play out before going any further on this franchise. For two reasons. You can't do a Venom movie without Spidey. And I was hoping we'd see Venom in the MCU eventually. Once this bombs, it will most likely kill any chances of Marvel touching it.
Plus I fear this will stop Hardy from becoming Wolverine someday. A role I feel he would be perfect in.

Sony doesn't deserve Tom Hardy.

Venom has been one of my favorite characters for well over two decades now and I really like Tom Hardy....... but how in the blue hell does this work?
How does Eddie Brock get the simbiote without being involved with Peter Parker?, how in the hell does Venom work full stop without Spider-Man? Noq you can have Venom without Spider-Man, but my point is how do you introduce this character without any involvement from Spider-Man? I could have got the wrong end of the stick here, but am I right in thinking that this Venom movie is just a Venom movie and has no ties to Spider-Man? this is what I have taken from the information the have given.
Also as much as I think Tom Hardy has the physical presence to be Eddie Brock/Venom he looks way, way older than Tom Holland, like not just a couple of years, but he looks 10 - 20 years older, but if they are not having Spidey in the movie anyway I guess it doesn't matter, but again how do you do Venom without Spidey.... sorry about the rant. This whole thing is making my head hurt lol, I just really want a proper Venom on the big screen.

Also (sorry I have really got going now!) How freaking awesome would a full on Symbiote invasion be in the MCU? I am talking Venom, Carnage, Anti-Venom and Toxin. ou could even throw in some of the other ones as well. Have Spidey have to go to The Avengers for help in stopping the Symbiotes. I really think it could be a multi movie story arc that would be a lot of fun.

While the MCU has Tom Holland, Sony could have another actor playing Peter in this since it's not apart of the MCU.

Sony should bring back Garfield. I'd love an ASM3 with Garfield and Hardy. Do Eddie's origin in Venom to setup Spider-man. We could finally see them introduce MJ as well.
We have multiple comic titles with the same heroes for major characters. I'm fine with having an MCU and Sony Spiderverse. Especially since I think Holland sucks so far as Spider-Man and Homecoming looks amazingly ordinary from the trailers.
I see nothing wrong with giving everyone what they want if Sony will just keep leasing Holland out to Disney and then continue with their own vision as if the MCU doesn't exist. I'd prefer it that way and I wish Fox would allow Jackman to be in the MCU as Wolverine but carry on with new X-Men stories in the same way.

Rewatched GoTG 2 today. Even though I don't think it's the best MCU movie from a technical standpoint, it just might be my favorite.
And I know I'm late with this, but what's the general consensus on Doctor Strange? I never hear anyone talk about it. I honestly think it gets a lot worse everytime I see it.

I've spoken with a couple people about this. Take Doctor Strange out of the theater.. Remove the 3D and IMAX and 4K jumbo screen, the glits and the glam.. Put it on a 40 inch LCD TV, and the movie takes a GIANT nose dive into extremely basic even below average territory. It's ranked in my bottom 5 in the MCU after rewatching it a couple times on my TV here at home.. It doesn't hold up very well against a majority of the MCU. The final act is really solid tho. It does have positive things going for it.. I just think it's entirely to fast paced and very shallow.. I'm never given a reason to care about Stephen Strange and the cast.. It doesn't do a good job building Stephen Strange before he enters the world of magic. And its critical reception is higher than Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2 which is completely ridiculous.

I loved Doctor Strange, but obviously the best viewing experience for it was in theater. I think it'd rank in the middle of the MCU for me.

The idiots at Sony really should be launched into space for the decision to do this stupid Venom movie. Tom Hardy is great, but they're not just gonna further up the character for future use, but continue to piss off Marvel - with their relationship already rumored to be close to snapping. Why can't they just hand the goddamn reigns over to Marvel, let them do Spider-Man (and Venom) right, and sit there counting the money when it rolls in? ego

I prefer Strange to Guardians 2 pretty easily.
The MCU film that keeps going up in my mind after every watch is Ant-Man though. Just so creative with its action and training scenes

I hated Dr. Strange possibly the one of the worst MCU origin stories, I still can't believe people compared it to being as good as the first Iron Man film. People who actually thought that are very blind.

People who actually thought that are very blind. Or have a difference of opinion. I really enjoyed it when I saw it in theaters. But at the same time it wouldn't be anything that I'd go out of my way to watch again unless part of a MCU marathon to prep for Infinity Wars. So far I personally don't think there is a movie from Ironman to Guardians 2 in the series I didn't enjoy. It includes Thor 2 and Ironman 2. I think growing up with subpar comic book movies helps.

People who actually thought that are very blind. I thought that Dr. Strange had amazing cinematography, unparalleled by most of the MCU movies (excluding GOTG). At points, the plot was seemingly driven only to connect the Infinity Stones together for Infinity War, but at the end, I was satisfied. In a comparison to Iron Man, I'm not too sure. Iron Man started off the entire MCU, without any template or guideline to follow besides maybe Singer's X-Men series or Raimi's Spider-Man movies. Dr. Strange followed the typical MCU guideline when Iron Man didn't, but still managed to pull off a great film so whoever says it was better than Iron Man isn't completely blind.

Cinematography won't save a movie from being bad man. The story was completely boring and I think Dr. Strange was way too hyped by fans cuz it's a movie fans will see once and that's it. I myself wouldn't want to see it again, cuz it wasn't that good compared to other films Marvel has made. It's pretty dumb to compare Dr. Strange to the first Iron Man film considering how much of a huge success it was, it's one of those films that people will watch again. Dr. Strange had a weak story, action was a bore, the villain never really got his moment in the film, that's why I wouldn't consider it one of Marvel's best films and I'm sure Marvel knows that.

Complete Opposite for me. When I was really able to watch it at home and rewind certain parts etc etc? I appreciated it a LOT more. Strictly my opinion of course. Now saying that I don't think its a top 10 MCU entry for me either. But I still think its a great watch.

We're going on week 3 since Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 hit theaters over here in the US.. And I haven't said much about it but I need to stress something to my fellow WFig Marvel fans.
Ego The Living Planet is one of the best villains Marvel has had since it started.
I've seen this movie twice and even 3 weeks since release, I still think back to Kurt Russell as Ego.. I was really impressed by everything he did, and the material he was given.
I mean I absolutely loved Kurt Russell as Ego.. And it's one of the first times in recent memory with Marvel where I felt TRUE danger for the characters.. There were many moments when the final battle was happening after he became the Living Planet where I actually felt dread for our heroes.. Like they honestly might not make it out.. I'm actually really disappointed that we'll never see Kurt Russell's Ego again in the MCU.
That is all.

I still need to give Dr Strange another chance, but that last operation he did on me did not work! (sorry that was a horrible, horrible attempt at humor)
Seriously though, I saw in theaters when it opened and I went with my son who was 8 at the time and he freaking hated it! I do not know if you have ever been to the movies with a kid who is not into what they are watching, but it makes watching the movie a bit of a chore so I think that may be why I was kind of down on it. He loves the movies and this is the only time he has been bored and not into what was happening on the screen. The special effects were pretty cool, but at the time it felt kind of boring, even to me. I think a lot of it was pretty forgettable as well as I am having a hard time remembering much of what happened.
Maybe Dr Strange is the kind of character who is going to work better as part of an assembled cast than leading his own movie? ?
It is the kind of movie I will pick up when I see it for about £7 or so and then give it another go. I have a feeling I might get more out of it.... watching it alone while my son is in bed lol.
