It's been a long time, guys, but I wanted to stop by and say hi (and bad guy™ suggested that I stop by)!
I hope everyone's been doing great!
A lot of you probably don't even remember me, so allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nick, better known by my username "Kliquid" which I created when I joined this forum over a decade ago. Since then, I've used the Kliquid username on just about everything I've done online, whether it be video games, social media or otherwise. I can honestly say that, as nerdy as it might sound, this forum helped shape me into the person that I am, and I am in a very happy place in my life right now.
I never really meant to leave WF. I meant to come back from time to time, whether to post in the sports board or just to troll my favorite statists in the political threads here in the Lounge. Hahahaha! But honestly, as the cliché goes, "life got in the way."
So, what have I been up to?
In January 2014, my wife and I found out that we were expecting our first child. I was so nervous. I had never really been around children. But I was also extremely excited! This is around when I stopped posting at WF. Maybe there was a correlation there, I'm not sure. Perhaps I internally decided that I needed to start reducing the amount of unproductive time that I spent on the Internet. Either way, I ended up spending a lot of time with my wife over the spring and summer as we prepared for our daughter to be born.
Then on September 10th, 2014, we became parents to our beautiful daughter, Madelyn!
My life changed pretty much instantly. It was no longer about the two of us, but now we were a real family. That might sound intimidating to some, but for me, it was an opportunity to help with something more important than myself. I've really taken that job seriously and I feel like I've become a really good Dad over the past year-or-so.
While being a Dad has been an amazing experience, it also became harder this past March when my Dad unexpectedly passed away. This really caught me off guard because my Dad was only 48 years old and was in relatively good health with no major problems to speak of. An embolism ended his life early on a Monday morning and my poor step-mom came across his body.
I had never experienced a death close to me. Even all of my grandparents are still alive and in good health, so for my dad to be the first person to go was really gutting. I was thankful that he had an opportunity to meet my daughter for a few months before he was gone, but it's really hard for me, even as I type this, to think about the fact that she will grow up without knowing him.
Still, I know that my dad wouldn't have wanted us to spend much time mourning over him, so we've all done our best to move past it. Madelyn is a very happy baby and the whole family is moving past the grieving stages.
What else has been going on?
One thing that I've become really involved in is my YouTube channel. Specifically, I've been creating a lot of videos about the Madden video game series (Madden Ultimate Team). If you're a fan of the games, you might have seen some of my videos before.
Not all of the videos are this ridiculous, but hey, I figured I'd show you guys a good one!
Anyway, I've been able to grow the channel to a pretty good size over the past year and a half or so. I now have over 33,000 subscribers and I should pass the 4 million total views mark sometime today, actually. Although those numbers aren't huge in comparison to many other channels, I think they're pretty good for a guy who can only spend a few hours per week doing it.
What about politics?
Those of you who remember me probably recall that I was very involved in the Ron Paul Presidential campaign in 2012 and I still have a Ron Paul quote in my signature on this forum. I'm extremely opinionated, as most political people are. But unlike liberals or conservatives, I'm not trying to run your life. I'm an anarchist libertarian because I think you can make decisions for yourself and I don't want to use force on innocent people.
My political views really haven't changed much, if at all, even since becoming a dad. A lot of people said that they would, but I haven't noticed it. If anything, being a dad has helped solidify my beliefs because I'm seeing firsthand the aggressive nature of government even on the smallest and most defenseless people in our society.
So you're probably wondering – who am I backing for President? Probably Rand Paul, right? Well....not so fast... Although I think Rand Paul is pretty clearly the best option of the available candidates in either major party, he's also not his father. He's like a watered down, bitch-made version of his father and that makes me sad. He's so willing to play "the game" and I just can't seem to get excited about it. So unless that changes, chances are that I will not be involved in any Presidential campaign in 2016. I *might* opt to help out in a local congressional election that I feel strongly about, but that will depend on how serious the candidate that I support is as we head into the election season.
Are you sticking around on WF?
To be honest, that's highly unlikely. I might make some posts here or there, but guys, as you can tell by the number of posts next to my name, I've spent a lot of time here. Probably right up there with the most that anyone has ever spent here. While I value that time and I wouldn't change anything, I have to realize that my free time is becoming increasingly valuable. I don't have much of it at all. I really have to prioritize what I do and unfortunately spending time on this forum is not very high on that list right now.
I will do my best to make some posts here and there, but if you guys want to stay in touch, I encourage you to say hi on one of these social media services:
