Just watched the new list prog on the network and I have to say while im sure there is an element of truth to the other guys I would be majorly upset if I was Jannetty. I admit I always think of him as the Other guy out of all tag teams and most of it may well be down to his demons but to have current "Superstars" (Bo, Heath, Rose, Alexa etc)running him down is a bit much. The main bit that bugs me is when they say name a singles match Marty had..... and none of them can - Bo seems to find it especially amusing!
First, I cant name a single match Bo has had at all and he will always be Bray Wyatts brother or IRS's son to me - unless some miracle happens and he actually achieves something. The choice of people they use is quite insulting really as I doubt most of them will be remembered in 20 yrs like Jannetty is - even if it is for being part of the Rockers.
Second, the fact they cant to me shows a lack of interest in the sport. I can remember good matches he had with Doink, Martel and obviously Shawn. If I was a "Superstar" I would want to show my knowledge of the sport not look like I don't care (although this is clearly how Vince/Producers wanted to portray history as usual)
Sure some will disagree with me but I get so fed up with them offering a slanted view on people. Anyone else agree?

It's weird you mention that actually. I was thinking to myself yesterday that they need to be more thoughtful on who they use for these things as you can see right through the guys who aren't genuine wrestling fans.
Haven't seen the episode you're talking about so can't really comment but judging by what you've said Jannetty would have every reason to be annoyed.

Marty does get an unfair and raw deal when it comes to being 'the other guy' in a tag team.
Marty won the IC Title from Shawn, and won the Tag Titles with the 123 Kid a few months after that. Just because Marty was never WWE Champion he should be labelled 'the other guy'?? I don't think so.
What about Jim Neidhart?? Jim was a good worker and did what he did well, but he never did anything in the WWE after he and Bret broke up. Marty at least won singles gold and won tag gold with someone else.
But yeah, it is funny when you see guys like Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Fandango, Adam Rose and such diss the guys from the past who could most definitely out wrestle any of those jobbers in a heartbeat.

Glad i'm not the only one that thinks it! I know they have to put the "Vince spin" on everything but shouldn't they take the point of view that without "the other guy" we may have never got the breakout star if things had gone differently?

It's funny because Marty Jannetty is considered the top "other guy" because of Shawn's major success but it's really Marty's own fault that he wasn't more successful.
Their careers were pretty damn parallel until around 1995 really. Once Marty started effing up and becoming unreliable he fell to the wayside. People forget he was an IC champion back when it still meant a ton.
If Marty had kept his head on straight, who knows? He was certainly never world champion material but he could've been more successful than we think.

I think it was clear Vince saw something in Marty considering the numerous second chances he got.
Shawn Michaels even insinuates in some shoots that there were plans for Marty in wwf. A feud with Michaels for starters, he got an IC title run and might have had another, or longer one, in the early 90s, and he was always entrenched as a solid mid carder when we has around (Raw series with doink, finalist in ic #1 contenders battle royal, etc)

Cant compare the careers of Marty and Neidhart. Marty had lots of singles success, Jim had zero. Jim, while a character, was a real "other guy", that seemed to escape the biting comments due to his daughter being friends with the current roster. Both Marty and Jim are depolrable, desperate, degenerates, but at least Marty had a chance at single stardom. Heck, Marty had good runs in ECW, WCW and that weird WWE one 6 or so years ago. Never saw the show, and probably wont...who else was on the list? Id say Robert Gibson should be on it...after Morton's Flair feud, they seemed on different levels....eventually they both came back at basically the same.

Jannetty defo gets a raw deal.
He was as talented as HBK was and if he could have kept his head on straight? He would have been something in WWE IMO. Vince and the people that mattered clearly seen it too because they kept bringing him back.

The programme featured a few but mainly Bart Gunn, Rick Steiner, Stevie Ray, Dan Spivey and Marty. Its a shame real fans like us don't give their opinions on these things instead of current jobbers and so called celebrities the WWE keep using - I really did feel Bo was especially punchable in his comments! Like I said i'm not trying to focus solely on Marty as I think they all get a raw deal on the show and a little bit of respect wouldn't have gone a miss! Like I said if the team as a whole hadn't got the spotlight then there may have been no break out star anyway!

I hated the part of the episode where everybody pretended like they couldn't think of one Marty Jannetty singles match.
Any idiot could've just guessed Marty Jannetty vs. Shawn Michaels and been right.

I stopped watching the List after they lumped all the Attitude Era divas as eye candy and sluts. Listening to the Modern stars run down the older stars is also very disrespectful and is getting old. When did the WWE become so afraid of their past outshining the present?

I'm not the only one on here, but growing up, I thought Marty was the better half of the Rockers. Admittedly I was wrong about that, but he was a talent when his head was straight.
It is stupid for nobodies in this business to bad mouth him. He had a solid career that should have been better. As stated, the guy was IC champ when it meant something. Ignorance or stupid WWE producers.

Marty was actually a better worker than Shawn back in the late 80s, early 90s, even mid 90s. Then he just sort of fell off the radar.
He had 3 major problems though. - Politics/drug issues. - Shawn had charisma out the wazoo, Marty didn't. - Shawn Michaels was able to move on and reinvent himself as a cocky heel which he played perfectly. Marty continued being "Marty Jannetty the Rocker", even until the late 90s in his WCW run. His attires, his persona, it was all the same thing he'd always done.

Michaels vs Jannetty DOES finally take place at the Royal rumble 1993, but Marty is fired immediately after the match after showing up high on drugs for the match

I'll admit it... I used to think Shawn was holding Marty back. I was convinced Marty was the breakout star of the team.

I was always a fan of Marty Jannetty and when I was a kid, I thought he was going to be a bigger star than Shawn Michaels when they were in the Rockers because he was the one who was doing all the talking in the promos.
