I was at work this evening and just got the news as I sat down in front of my computer. Such a sad day for wrestling fans.

Goodbye Hot Rod.
I'm blessed to have met him a couple of months ago at Comicpalooza in Houston. He was really, really nice and genuine. He didn't rush anybody and took the time to talk. He seemed so humble and grateful to his fans.
We'll miss you.

Rowdy Roddy Piper, Macho Man and Ultimate Warrior were my favorite wrestlers. They were legitimately larger than life, they seemed ageless to me, Piper especially, death seemed impossible, how could that level of energy just die? There is NO ONE on the roster now who has even a shred of those guys’ charisma, that class was a very special class and it will probably never be matched. Classic WWF defined wrestling to much of the world and Roddy Piper was at the very top of it. HIs look was ing perfect, the guy had Andy Warhol taking pictures of his boots. Piper and many in that class were better characters to me than anything anyone could muster on paper from their imagination because they were real, even if the wrestling wasn’t. These men taught me to be vibrant and strong and intense before anyone else. Warrior liked talking about male role models and maybe that seems silly with wrestling but if you don’t have any when you’re young these men helped. They showed me you could summon something incredible in yourself, that there was a better version of you available inside somewhere. Imagine if Roddy Piper was a truck driver and he never got to show everyone what he had inside, what he could do! Well he did show us what he could do and I’ll never forget it. I don’t think I’m even sad, it was a life well lived and he touched a lot of people, can’t really ask for more. It just won’t do to be sad about a triumphant life. That era still seems like a dream to me …. and I think it’s a little wet.

This really came as a shock to me. When Dusty died I wasn't really that surprised. Saddened of course but at least it didn't strike me as a shock. This one really hit me. RIP Hot Rod.

One of the few moments that shook me to my very core. I need to be saved from this one. RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper

This is up there with Eddie Guerrero's death for me.
This might be the last cord snapped for me as a wrestling fan. I've already been having a reality check as of late about why i even watch WWE now when its clearly made for young kids, where a guy like Roddy Piper would have been nothing but another win for super hero John Cena or Roman Reigns because "bad guys" cant win anymore.

I will be watching his Born To Controversy DVD soon as a tribute.
Still numb from the shock...Unreal...

WWE needs to have some sort of legends night where we invite back a ton of legends and show video clips of them, have them cut promos, whatever. I'm sick and tired of not hearing from our legends until they pass away. It shouldn't take someone's death to remind people how great someone really is. And that goes for anyone, anywhere. If I woke up tomorrow and heard Hogan had passed on, I wouldn't be able to live with the fact that this is how he went out.

Very sad. What a great talent Piper was. Way too young to go still. Time is precious.
RIP Hot Rod.

No death is honestly ever a good thing but they're even worse then its someone that is generally a good person. I know none of us every knew Roddy on a personal level but while there was bickering between Hart-HBK, Hogan-Warrior, Sheik-Warrior...whomever....I dont recall anyone ever saying a bad word about Roddy Piper. He genuinely (or so it seemed) to not only care about his family but also his wrestling family & fans. The losses of Dusty & Roddy honestly might be the most impactful deaths on pro wrestling because these two men could teach the younger generation how to be a PROFESSIONAL wrestler inside and outside of the ring.

RIP Roddy Piper, A sad day. Piper always was full life and enjoyed every minute of it, We should celebrate his career with watching some of the most intense and sometimes funniest promos of all time

So sad! One of my favorites ever. I was lucky enough to spend an entire weekend with Hot Rod in 2007, we partied, went out to eat and had a great time. I always felt like we'd meet up again. All my hero's and guys who got me through my childhood are dying. Me and Hot Rod after a late night of partying eating Wendy's

My brother texted me while I was at work. I tried to hold back tears because I felt like my coworkers wouldn't understand. As I got home I couldn't help but cry a little to myself. Roddy was one of my favorites and truly the greatest superstar to never be WWE Champion. Rest in Peace Rowdy, thanks for the wonderful memories, we will always love you.
