Funny stuff and I will say he played the role well after reinventing himself as JBL I never liked him. The stories about him are the first thing I think of now. Man the guy can hit a clothesline though.

Being Hispanic and still thinking this was real, I HATED JBL. Especially whenever he would screw The Undertaker out of winning the belt. It wasn't until later that I realized just how great JBL really was.
Side note: Ar Weestlemania 21 the backstage segment with JBL talking to Triple H about who is the better champion got me excited for a potential match between the two champions of each brand.

I HATED him when I was a kid. Especially when he caused Eddie's Mum to have a "Heart Attack". Then even more when he won the damn title.

I remember that. I was probably 14, and I remember wondering if wwe would get themselves into hot water over it

I loved this as a kid and love it now. I know this was suppose to generate heel heat but I can guarantee this segment gained JBL far more fans than detractors. Bingo.....its just like Swagger and Coulter. In certain arenas those 2 were "over like rover" with their rhetoric. Vince doesn't really understand his demographic so well sometimes.....or maybe he does. I thought JBL was an excellent heel but unfortunately my feelings for the real JBL have clouded my feelings towards him and his title reign. I thought he was a great throwback coward ass heel though. I feel it leans more towards Vince just doesn't understand demographics and is stuck in an 80s mindset...Its similar to when WCW brought in Master P and his crew as faces against the heel West-Texas Rednecks. This was a company whose roots were in the south and had a group of about 10 African-Americans beating down 4 rednecks in states like Georgia and Texas and wondered why the Renecks were cheered and Master P was booed. Konnan goes into detail about this in one of his shoots. This JBL promo is very similar.

He was brilliant for most of that run, just an outstanding heel. I can remember he was hard for me to buy into as a top guy at first, but he really grew on me.

This is the kind of awesome stuff the world has got way too damn sensitive about to pull off in this day in age...could you imagine if when jack swagger and zeb came back after he won the chamber and did something like this in the build up to w.m 29 with Del rio? nuclear heat
