As for Owen being better, I can agree in some aspects. The fact is they were both really good in general but Bret had one important thing Owen didn't, the look.

He was passable at best. Great heel work though.

^^^^That's a good point. Bret was often surrounded and overshadowed by more confident, charismatic speakers and he looked bad by comparison. So what you guys are saying is, that when Bret was allowed to be more of himself he got better on the mic? The opposite. Bret considered himself to be a genuine hero who everyone could believe in and root for, but his interviews were much better when he was a villain telling fans to stick it.
They were still pretty bad, though. His voice combined with his wooden awkwardness did not make for a great speech. He never had the skill for crafting a promo the way he did for a match. Coming out of left field with this one but Owen was superior to Bret in every aspect of pro wrestling. More charismatic, better talker, and better worker. Vince got behind the wrong one IMO Owen was way more fun and I liked him more, but he didn't carry himself like a major player the way Bret did. Owen was best as a midcard comedy guy. Completely disagree with that. That point doesn't really make any sense and contradicts itself. Secondly, i find it fascinating how different people see wrestling when they go back and watch it compared to people who were watching it in real time.

I was never a big Owen fan. I liked him but nowhere near as much as I liked Bret. And while I always felt Bret was never comfortable cutting his promos he did enough to get his point across. But like I said before early on he had Anvil and Jimmy Hart to do the talking for him. But going back to Owen for a second even Bret has said many times Owen was the most talented of the Harts.

I liked Owen but never thought he was better than Bret.
Owen just flat-out wouldn't sell a lot of times.

His early stuff was a bit flat, but he got better as he went, and once you get to the beginning of the AE, and his heel stuff, its quite good to me.

I never once thought to myself Bret was a bad speaker till I signed up here. And though I hear it often, I still don't believe it really. He was more than good enough as far as I was concerned.

It wasn't so much that he was a bad speaker because he did get the message across...it was more like he was never fully comfortable speaking. At least that is what I always felt.

I think Brets early promo work is fairly average, later on especially in 97 with the Hart Foundation he got pretty good though.

He was okay on the mic. When you watch his reurn in 2010? (RAW guest host) his mic skills were pretty poor. Again recently when he was building Sami Zayn up to face Cena he just lacked something. I find Bret very monotone on the mic and I think he struggles to get emotion behind what he is saying. I'm a huge Bret fan but I sometimes cringe when I see him on the mic, especially modern day Bret. His backstage promo's are quite good, I personaly think his live ring promo's are terrible.

I guess maybe a combo of the stroke and not being on TV regularly are why he struggles these days.

Great way of describing it. After Bret left in 96, did Lonesome Dove and returned in November? he was WAY better on the mic and more comfortable in front of camera. Its not that he was ever "bad" on the mic. Just weaker than some.....from 91 when he got his singles break the following guys were all around and better than him on the stick...but these were all SUPER mic men. Competition on the stick from 91-96 that likely makes him look weaker: Hogan Savage Warrior Hall Nash Henning Cornette Lawler Jeff Jarrett Dibiase Paul Bearer Sid HBK yknow?

I like Bret. He's just a bit bland. His mic work in 1997 was amazing though. Still my favourite wrestler of all time.
