Whats up everyone? Thought I'd start a discussion. I normally lurk on these boards and respond occaionlly to threads but was feeling extra nostalgic today. I just turned 19 years old and the RA era of wrestling was my childhood. From the years of 2002-2010 I was on and off on collecting these figures. My best friend growing up actually gave me his entire collection (around 120 figs) when I was in 8th grade. TONS of classic superstars but me being the dunce that I am sold most. This is around late 2007 I believe. Classic Hollywood Hogan, Jimmy Valiant, Gorilla Monsoon, The Rockers, The works! I was in heaven. Imagine at 12 years old being given 3 boxes of wrestlers! Now back on topic. Now I dont collect anymore but I do still pick up figs here and there like that RA Hogan I have pictured. Just got that 3 days ago. I don't know about you guys but I have a story behind almost every figure I own. Wheter it was a match I had with them in my backyard or trading with my friend for something he had. So here some of my favorite figures; Keep in mind some of these I bought second hand or some I even got for christmas or birthdays the year they were released so thats why some look like they have marks or scratches. Sabu- I remeber when this figure came out, I wanted it more than anything in the world at the time. And my close friend had it. I was so jealous! Then one fateful day i walked into my local Kmart and was absolutely shocked to see him sitting there. The Jimmy Snuka, Kane, hardy, and RVD were all recent pickups. If im not mistaken isn't this kane a little hard to find? Like I said earlier the Hogan is a recent pick up as I always wanted a RA Hogan. I'm not even sure what series he's from. The Goldberg I picked up around 2010 when Mattel took over the license. I remember getting the one with black trunks for Christmas 2003 Cena I also picked up not too long ago but I remember having it back in the day and taking it apart to make it into a Zach Gowen custom . Kurt Angle i believe if from the treacherous trios 3 pack with Mark Henry and Davari. But I believed I swapped the head or something. I remember going into a toys r us with all my birthday money and just leaving with a load of figures. that 3 pack being one of them. Billy, Shane and A-Train are all fairly recent pickups but still some of the best figures made in that period IMO. As for the Sandman figure, I was in 6th grade i believe when ECW got revived. As a kid I was into "hardcore" wrestling but who wasn't lol? Was so pumped when I walked into KB and saw him on the pegs. The Kendo stick just made this figure perfect. I wanted a sandman figure so bad i remember making a custom before I even new what a custom was with JBl first scan and the Off the Ropes Rock figure based of the Walking Tall Movie. The skin tones didn't even match but that didn't matter to someone who was in like 5th grade haha. (So made a sandman figure before jakks did haha) I planned on sharing more but at this point i feel like i'm rambling and don't wanna make a really long boring post. But let me hear your memories like this! I love hearing other peoples memories of the RA era of WWE figures. Let me know if you wanna hear more I got plenty of Figs and plenty of stories Thanks Everybody!

Thanks for sharing. I grew up with LJN, Remco, Hasbro and Galoob wrestling figs, and was already passed the playing days once the BCA's came out.
As an adult I happened upon the TTL display at TRU and was blown away by the Hogan figures, but that was not enough to gete into becoming an adult collector, because while it was a heavy shot of nostalgia seeing the Hulkster on the shelves as an adult, something seemed off about the figures themselves.
Fast forward a couple years and I see Bobby The Brain Heenan on the pegs and I snagged it and was hooked, now 600 figs later I'm still adding to my CS collection and making customs with no end in sight.

Nice post. I remember on Christmas 2007 I had gotten an ECW championship with CM Punk and Johnny Nitro figures. I still have them to this day and they mean a lot to me.

I have most of my figures out in the storage room of my house. I stopped collecting in 2008 around the time i turned 18. The Last figure I bought was the first DA Umaga.
I got to the age where I felt I was getting too old to collect them, I simply grew out of it.
I now focus on Baseball cards (mainly The Cardinals) and baseball autograph. I own autographs from more than 200 Cardinal major league players, and almost 1000 MLB'ers all together. I just picked up two game used bats from a couple cardinals (jerry mumphrey and bernie carbo) in the late 1970s.

That kane is definitely rare, a raw metal exclusive that is only one of two unmasked belted attire with the ruthless aggression body style. And truthfully I loved that head scan.

I also grew up with LJN...my first figure being Snuka. A kid named Jeremy brought him to school. Had NO idea who the figure was but I had to have him. I offered him a few bucks and it was mine. I went home to find this thing called wrestling. And find it I did. My first match I ever saw was Randy Savage vs. Tiger Chung Lee. They were hyping WM3. Saw it on PPV. Bought all the LJN'S I could. Even sent away for the rare Slaughter figure. Had a house fire and lost everything.
Been a fan since January 1987. I do not watch it anymore as we do not get it in English down here in Mexico and I HATE the spanish commentators.
My love has actually been rekindled lately by making the custom playsets that I show in the custom accessories forum here.
It is SO much fun playing again. And it all started with that poor LJN Snuka figure

Started watching wrestling in 60s with Yukon Moose Cholak in Chicago and I always enjoyed it and I would have liked that Remco Freebirds Road Warriors set but I dont think I ever ran across it as I think I was into Marx playsets like Fort Apache , POA , Star Trek , GI Joes and Batman . Then when I was older in the 80s and WWF and SNME and rock n Wrestling was getting hot I saw all the LJN and got them all and the ring for my 6 year old Nephew for Xmas and we had a blast and I kept watching through to the attitude era and that was it as I dislike and dont understand todays wrestling especially with the incredible stuff I grew up with like AWA , WWF and WCCW . And now to the good part a few years ago I saw the Jakks WM2 steel cage ring browsing feebay and it was the coolest thing I ever saw like a dream come true but I freaked it was from along time ago and didnt know if I could get a new MOC one but I did and only $150 not $400 and then with all the huge Jakks CS figure roster and part mods I could do I was hooked and thats not easy as I get bored pretty quick and then with help from many members here like June , Paul and Greensborohill I even do the torso mods that I never thought I could do and just as tight as a real Jakks. Well along the way I added tons of stuff and heres a few before and after photos so I hope you dont mind and thanks for sharing your collection and memories with us all and letting us share with you .

When I was a kid (under 7) I had a few old hasbro figures, a few modern (for the time) and loads of action men, power rangers, thundercat figures.
Gosh the amount of characters I created to 'wrestle' was awesome
The imagination as a child is something phenomenal
I had a dollar store figure, put a mr t head on it and called him Street Punk... He was this awesome hardcore wrestler xD Then there was la Scorpia, an Egyptian god who used a move called the spirits of the damned xD
Fun days

I was collecting DBZ figures when I was young and started to slowly get some wrestling figures, my first one was The Rock TTL and TNA Marvel jeff Hardy. I use to love collecting Jakks, but I always had trouble finding the ones I wanted in stores (except KB Toys). I stopped collecting around 2010 as I got bored with them and stopped collecting wrestling toys.

When I was 8 I got the BCA Monster Ring with the Referee figure and The Undertaker, Kane and SCSA for Christmas, I used to have a lot of fun with that ring. The Undertaker used to have frequent matches with Barney the Dinosaur

I remember Stone Cold fever being in full swing at my school. Everyone had the shirts. Everyone was obsessed. So long as my grades were good I could get an action figure every month. Stone Cold was the object of my desire for probably three months running. Nobody had him anywhere.
We must've hit this toysrus right after a restock in the third month of fruitless searching, because I finally found one. These were the pre-internet days for me (didn't get home internet until 2000 or 2001 as I recall) so I didn't know what would be in stores. It admittedly wasn't a great figure looking back, but I was so ecstatic to have one at the time. It was a pre-scan TTL Stone Cold in a Baseball Jersey that said Austin 3:16. I still have that figure. He's still in pretty nice shape. I used to entertain myself between Raw commercial breaks playing with my wrasslers. That figure meant a lot. There are surely nicer versions of him from both Jakks and Mattel but they will never hold that same meaning as that long drawn out victory when I was 11 or so years old.

This isn't a figure memory, but whenever I buy a Chamoionship Title Belt, (Jakks, Mattel, Commemorative, or Ultra Deluxe), "the boyhood dream come true" every single time. I may not have won them, but I worked hard to have them all. The great thing about not winning them is the fact that I can't lose them either. HAHA!!

I remember having to go to doctors appointments when I was younger, and my parents would always take me to toysrus to get new figures. The nearest toysrus was like 3 hours away so I was always excited haha. This was in 2000-2001.

This is a little morbid, unfortunately:
One afternoon, I made a trip to KB Toys and they had an Adrenaline Booker T/Eddie Guerrero in stock. I was drawn to the Guerrero figure because I really needed an updated figure - the last one I had was his TTL figure. My dad bought the Adrenaline pack, I went home and immediately opened it and started playing with the Guerrero figure. A few minutes later, I went on WWE.com...and found out Eddie had passed away. I was freaked out, to say the very least.

I remember going into a KB Toys one time and finding every single Classic Superstars Series 1 figure right when they came out. I was excited and bought them all!

Not quite: RAW Metal Plus they released that figure at retail eventually i believe Then jakks made the fake no singlet attire where they just reused the entire figure with a SHW torso on: RA 7 Survivor Series 03 Among others

I remember similar sentiments. Pre-internet/pre I was allowed to use our internet...you were at the mercy of what was at the store and shown on the back of the packages...which was just the worst. Let's just say I spent a lot of time looking for those TTL Shawn Stasiak, Stephanie, Jeff Jarrett, etc that they had proto's on the back for. In regards to your story I remember this happening with so many figures. The closest story I have would probably be Brock Lesnar. At this point I had the internet but didn't order online, so when I looked high and low for KOTR Brock (and UCF 3 Rhyno) and couldn't find him...it was beyond disappointing. Same thing happened with RA 1 Lesnar. I finally had to order RA 1 Brock Online for **gasp*** $15+shipping (which now that I am an adult and understand the concept of time = money...my parents probably should have just done to begin with)...but at the time paying almost $20 for just 1 figure was like blasphemy.

Lately been thinking back to the figures I got in my formative years of 8-12, especially the holidays. It's crazy how many different wrestlers, versions of each wrestler, and how often they release stuff these days. Even by the time Jakks was a seasoned veteran at producing stuff, there was always a 9 month lag for new/debutting wrestlers and 6-8 months lag for a new look. I saw a post how a guy went to target or walmart and bought tyler breeze...the guy just debuted on TV. How cool would it have been as a kid to see Brock Lesnar, Orton, Cena, Batista, the Hardys, etc. just already be in stores by the time they debuted.
The converse, which may actually even things out, is the price of figures is just ridiculous today versus what it used to be. From 99-02 you could get an entire set for about $25-35 at retail, and that was without a sale/promotion. It wasn't even a struggle to ask for a figure when you went to the store, let alone multiple, in fact your parents were usually upset if you DIDN'T buy something after they took the time to take you to ToysRUs. I remember my mom and dad routinely calling from Target when they were just running errands to let me know if they had anything new.
Now that I am thinking back on it, I even remember an instance where my mom almost FORCED me to buy RA 1 John Cena from ToysRus because it was on sale (for like $4 maybe), I didn't have him, and because nothing new was gonna be out for a while (this was back in the days when R3 1 came out in January...and R3 2 came out in May, same deal with RA's). Similarly, I remember target had a sale the week that they received TTL 9 restocks and rebellion 2. For $16 I got Mick Foley, Deadman Inc. Undertaker (which to this day is perfect), ring gear Chris Jericho, and Crash Holly. I even remember my mom being like...you don't want to buy more...this is such a good price. I remember it was buy one get one free like 2 weeks after and I got Rebellion 2 Rock and Benoit, despite not wanting or needing either, because why wouldn't you get to brand new figures for $5-6 with tax.
Seriously think about it, spending $5 (maybe $10-15) like once or twice a month to keep your kid ecstatic...that's unbelievable. Today you can't even get 1 figure for under like $11 or 12 with tax.
