Hello all first time posting here in Customs. I started trying customizing figures when i saw that people were doing custom figs on the internet way back when (Razor's Edge customs anybody?) and the main ones i was looking at were BCA customs.
Alot of people dont like them but I am SURE that a lot of you first tried customizing BCA figures. Mine always sucked, cobbled together with crappy paint oh goodness they looked awful (you should see my Honky Tonk Man with screaming vince Mcmahon head, and blackjack body painted shitty paint. it was bad.)
but recently having gotten back into BCA figures, i decided to get back to tryin it. So i figured my test dummy would be my old (pre) mangley bret hart fig i got off some kid as a young un. Thought i'd paint him in his fairly earlier 80s attire!
Mainly based on the LJN fig and this pic (decided not to do the pintstripes on the sides wanted to start off with simple details):
I actually tried painting it with paint markers before when i was younger too. it was bad:
^as you can see this was from the first time I masked the figure. I went with black matte Spray paint for most of the black.
it actually worked out well! but then... I tried the pink glossy paint for the legs. no go. wouldnt dry. and even after I sprayed it with clear spray to make it not sticky
it was still super unstable and peeling off.
So i had to get some paint thinner and had to get all the gunk off. During this process the already dangley leg fell off.
so i decided to get a new crotch. got it from a Road Warrior Hawk. first time cracking bodies actually. I realized comparing the insides that Jakks learned from the early figs and made the ones
after the first couple with more reliable joints. but that means i had to glue the inner joints of the leg to the new crotch piece (hehe). which worked surprisingly. fully mobile and free standing!
so then i got to painting with acrylic like i had read to do here on the forums:
turned out fairly good! after like 4 or 5 coats
then masked off the rest of him and painted everything else:
and after some white electrical tape for wrist tape and "socks", permanent market for the shades (all i had) and a pink paint marker for the heart and sealing it all krylon flat clear coat I got this:
for some reason the pics made him look darker than he is but ey!
not the most amazing thing in the world but hopefully not the worst you've seen. I have alot of ideas for future figs with more to them
Bob Backlund (he has the BCA head just need a non manager body)
Sgt Slaughter (also has BCA head)
More accurate blackheart Owen Hart (he deserves it man...)
and uuuuuh Atsushi Onita. yeeeep.
Thanks for looking!
