I thought Zayn's injury was supposed to keep him out of in ring action until at least December? maybe he healed up faster then expected the last time he said anything, he said it was going SLOWER than expected.

I would much rather they have Zayn return during the Road to WM. Have him win a number one contender to the IC title battle royal. Thus giving us Owens vs Zayn at WM 32. Start the show off with that and force everyone else to follow that. This. 1000% This.

I'm not sure that he's ready yet. If he is, it wouldn't be a bad idea, but it wouldn't be my first choice either. To me, it goes like this: Best case scenario: Daniel Bryan (if he's healthy, for ratings and general interest purposes) Very nice alternatives: Samoa Joe, James Storm Pretty good alternative: Sami Zayn Kill it all: Big Show I just thing, at this point, every mid-card guy on the main roster is far too damaged to uphold the credibility Cena has brought to the title. It's gotta be a call-up or a big return. I never thought of Storm. I'd love it.

Zayn answers the open challenge Sunday, beats Cena. Comes out on Raw the next night, Calls out KO, tells him not only did he too beat John Cena in his first match on the main roster, but beat Cena for the US title, something KO could not do. With all the NXT history it writes itself. Plays out with a unification match at WM32.
..Wishful thinking.

It wouldn't make any sense for Zayn to come back and injure Cena.
I'd rather have Owens come out and put Cena on the shelf. Owens carries the IC and US titles until WM, THEN Zayn can win the US title.

And Zayn was still an NXT talent when he faced Cena. This would be his first match since being called up to the main roster.

I love Sami as much as the next guy, but he needs to rival KO first on the main roster. It's Prince Pretty's time to shine!

If they go with an injury angle to explain Cena's time off, then the opponent should be a heel.
The opponent should be a worthwhile surprise - like a return or call up.
I believe the opponent (winner) should be a mid-carder. It gives a younger, or underutilized talent a chance to shine and prove themselves.
Now, as far as Sami...
Let's assume that Sami Zayn returns to action - and the main roster - as a surprise Rumble entrant this coming year. Whether in the match himself, or not, Owens is responsible for Zayn's elimination. This begins an IC title feud that stretches to a match at WM 32. The whole story is that Owens protests Zayn returning at all, after Owens put him out of action. He believes Zayn doesn't deserve to be on the main roster at all, much less fighting for the IC title, or having a match at WM, after only a couple months on the roster. Zayn of course, only wants revenge against his former friend for their NXT past. It could be an underdog story to a lesser extent of Bryan at WM 30. Win or lose, it could be a great program.

It wouldn't make any sense for Zayn to come back and injure Cena. I'd rather have Owens come out and put Cena on the shelf. Owens carries the IC and US titles until WM, THEN Zayn can win the US title. If Owens is going to have both belts, he might as well unify them. No point in having both titles continue to exist. There should only be one definitive upper midcard title. If a third belt is needed, it should be for the lower card.
