Always loved Bulldog and Owen. They were a great team and great opponents.

Bulldog, Mr. Perfect, Piper and Owen are four guys who I always felt should/could have been champion at one time or another.

Enjoyed the match as I enjoy both wrestlers but I find them both overrated if Im honest. Their team was good but they wouldn't crack my top 15 teams. Also Bulldog has a few matches better than Summerslam 92 IMO. his match vs Bret @ IYH: Seasons Beatings is ten times better than Summerslam 1992 because Bulldog wasnt a blown up & overmuscled. Its a testament to Harts talent that he dragged Daveys pilled up ass through the wembley match. While I love Owen, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Bulldog is overrated. The guy never led a great match himself, and was messed up all the time. He's lucky Bret, Owen, and HBK carried him to the best matches of his career.

I certainly don't dislike Davey but yeah he is certainly overrated (sometimes chronically)

I always point to his WCW run in the early 90s as proof he wasn't a top star. He really didn't do anything to boost business when they signed him and he came right back to the WWF midcard after that run.

I've always enjoyed Owens work, but not some much for Double J. But you are right that was post caution tape and Owen was still always on his game it seemed. I need to go back and catch up on my late 90's Owen material. I am a firm believer that Owen was better overall than Bret was but that's a discussion for another time lol

I liked Davey Boy alot, but I didn't ever see him as a guy who could carry the company as champion. I saw him as a mid-card champion or a contender for the WWE championship...but never as the WWE Champion.

New Japan made the right decision to make him the first Western IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion. Also I hate it when Bret put in his book that he was the most over wrestler in Europe, hate to break it to you Bret, but during that time it was definitely Bulldog. Being from the UK, he all but represented European wrestling for the top dogs in the industry (I can't think of any other names that were all too popular from Europe & Alex Wright doesn't count IMO).

A reliable hand but NEVER a fit for the top guy after his antics in the Summer of 1992. besides which it was obvious Vince didn't trust him after SSlam 1992. He got the IC title off him at the first available chance.

I finally sat down an watched the European Championship finals between Owen Hart and the British Bulldog. Suffice to say, it was a damn good match. Easily one of the Bulldog's best matches in his career. This further proves my point when the Bulldog was in a situation where he can have chemistry with somebody, he can have a solid match. The Bulldog was capable of having good matches. He needed to be put with someone who can motivate him and have chemistry with. I was surprised it was a three segment match. I guess they allocated a lot of time to allow them to have a compelling match.
After watching said match it pains me both aren't with us today. Such a classic match that every wrestling fan needs to devote time to watch. Mind you, I haven't seen this match since it initially aired in 1997.

They had a match in August of 1996 in a first round for the IC Title tourny that wasn't good, and the re-match they had a month after the European Title finals wasn't good either, but that was all to set up the formation of the Hart Foundation. Something special was in the air that night of the European Title finals. I am not sure if it was because Davey Boy knew he was winning, or if it was because they were in Germany, or if it was because Davey Boy was a face that night, but it was a great match.

One thing I think what motivated Owen Hart and the British Bulldog was they knew all the spotlight was on them and wanted to give the crowd in Germany a solid performance. The other two matches you are referencing to, I should watch them when I have the time to. The match they had on the 3.31.97 RAW was used as a vehicle to re-form the Hart Foundation. Their match in Germany had some fanfare, they went out, and told a story. The commentary wasn't all that bad. Loved how they brought up that both men knew each other well. If you want to talk about underrated matches, Owen/Bulldog European Championship Finals is one of those.
