Hey guys, I recently watched the WWF Buried Alive match and noticed that Undertaker was still wearing his purple gloves attire at the time. Does anyone know why then that Jakks released the ministry style Undertaker figure with this set? Was this the first issue of this figure -- a lot of times it seemed like Jakks would throw any new attired figures into random boxed sets.

I don't recall when it came out but it must have been sometime after the first Buried Alive match because I don't remember The Executioner being around then.

Undertaker's figure in the Target Exclusive BCA Buried Alive 4-pack is actually based on the attire he wore at Survivor Series one month later. That became the signature look for Undertaker's Jakks figures beginning in the fall of 1997; in fact, it was the second ever Jakks body mold made exclusively for him. The first issue of this figure was in the Toys"R"Us Exclusive Championship Title Series 4-pack (Released October 1997). I don't know why they chose not to use the purple gloves attire for the Buried Alive set. If it counts for anything, I would say Undertaker abandoning the look nearly a full year prior to the figure's release had something to do with it.

I never found this set.
We didn't have a Target in my area until long after the BCA era was over.
We had Hills and Ames.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't realize this set debuted so much later than the actual match. I always preferred the Series 1 BCA figure over all of the other BCA versions.
And I was in the same boat with this set -- we didn't have Target stores in New York when these figures were released. I remember viewing these toys on the old wwf website as a kid.

I acquired this set earlier this year and it's just amazing. It was still sealed and I picked it up for a song. Couldn't believe it.

I don't understand why they didn't use the Undertaker figure with purple gloves from the WWF Superstars BCA series 1 (that same figure was re-released on the series 2 of that line with a "glow in the dark" feature) in this Buried Alive set. I think Jakks was giving more emphasis on the "Lord of Darkness" era at the time instead of making more figures of the 1994-1996 Taker era.

Here's a MOC pic of the Toys"R"Us exclusive Best of '97 Series 1 Undertaker figure along with Ahmed Johnson: This third and final release of the original Undertaker mold from Superstars Series 1 is unique in that a peg hole was added to the bottom of its foot and it could finally be displayed on a WWF figure stand.
