What a wild weekend! While we couldn't make it to "The Big Event" in New York.... we did hit several signings in the PA/MD area...... First was a Hardy Boys signing in Allentown, PA on Saturday morning..... then down to Joppa, MD for MCW's "Horsemen Rise" event, featuring my absolute favorite - Ric Flair, along with his Horsemen friends - Tully Blanchard, James J. Dillon, and "The Perfect 10" Baby Doll..... finally - "November To Remember" at Pro Wrestling World in Allentown again on Sunday morning.....
It took a bit of planning to pull it all off, & even though I was pretty tired at the end of it, it was well worth the effort! Had several great experiences with some true wrestling legends! Thought it would be best if I captioned each photo with some memorable quotes from each event!
ME: "I'm actually a lifelong Ric Flair fan!"
MATT HARDY: "Who isn't? We're from North Carolina - we grew up being Flair fans!"
ME: "I don't need to be in the photo with you - I'm an EC3-guy....." -to Jeff Hardy...
We had actually agreed ahead of time that this one would belong to my wife & son.... our "Wall of Fame" needs some variety! Seems like I'm in all the pictures...... we needed to have some different stuff. They're bigger Hardy Boys fans than I am, anyway...
Matt & Jeff were so laid-back & polite.... way better than I expected. And they did such a nice job on the autographs! This signing was great!
RIC FLAIR: "Look at this kid! LOVE the glasses! Look at you guys!"
ME: "We came to STYLE AND PROFILE with the Nature Boy!"
RIC FLAIR: "Tully, JJ..... take a look at this kid!" Ric Flair, again about my son....
Flair absolutely loved my son's attire.... I had decided we would do something different, and dress up for this one! I wore a suit jacked & polo, looking "like only I can look" & picked up a nice vest for my son from the local Goodwill, figured that way, it doesn't matter if it got ruined. The glasses came from Dollar Tree!
The Flair/Horsemen signing went great, except I just about fell apart.... I didn't have my wife with me this time - just myself & my son. I had everything organized, but trying to coordinate the items with the paint pens became a little overwhelming for me - I ended up leaving my WWE 24/7 Exclusive figure on the table! It was pretty embarrassing when I had to ask the security guys to go back & get it for me (they wouldn't let me go back through). I heard them saying "this guy brought so much stuff, he forgot some of it."
The cool thing, is that I can say that this signed figure was actually in Ric Flair's possession for about 20 minutes, until I figured out my horrible mistake!
To top things off - I realized that I also left three paint pens on the table, too.... oh well, I wasn't going to ask those guys to get them for me again.....
And, I must admit... I completely ignored the advice I got via a wrestlingfigs.com forum poll I did, and went a different route. I decided that completing my JAKKS signed-collection was more important than starting my Mattel signed-collection, so I went with the JAKKS single figures instead of the Mattel 4-pack.... sorry guys, but it's my collection! Maybe next time..... but the stuff still came out GREAT!
Currently - my favorite, favorite item in my collection! Now, I need to get the other half signed!
Also great to see The Horsemen back in the ring, along with Baby Doll!
TESSA BLANCHARD: "Oh my God! I'm so embarrassed! By-the-way - nice shirt!"
Tessa Blanchard (women's wrestler, daughter of Tully Blanchard) at SHEETZ gas station, following the MCW show - she walked into the store with makeup remover cream all over her face, and was immediately approached by a fan requesting a selfie - I left her alone, but she singled ME out in the SHEETZ crowd & complimented my Charlotte shirt as she frantically ran out of SHEETZ squealing in embarrassment..... I responded by pointing at her & telling her she "stole the show".
And one of my first-ever stories of meeting a wrestler outside of a wrestling show!
SABU: "This is Super-Genie." - Sabu said, in a low, gravelly voice.
SUPER GENIE: "I'm Super-Genie......" - in an even lower, gravelly voice.
ME: "Oh - Nice to meet you, Super Genie....." very confused about who Super-Genie is...
This one was actually a little rough... Sabu was extremely late - no one knew where he was or how to get in touch with him.... my wife was getting impatient, so we left & went to "The Tilted Kilt" instead. After finishing my meal, I told my wife to have another beer & watch the Eagles game, & I'd go back to see if Sabu ever showed up (fully expecting him to be a no-show).
I was quite surprised to arrive back at Pro Wrestling World to find that he had arrived! No line at this point, either.... the main reason we went to this signing was to get my JAKKS Sabu figure signed..... mission accomplished! The photo op came out nice, too!
MY WIFE: "Why do you do this?" - to the infamous ECW "Hat Guy"....
While we were waiting so long for Sabu, "The Hat Guy" was doing free photo ops.... We chatted for him with a few minutes, mostly about his activity in indy wrestling..... apparently, he's a manager now..... nice guy!
THE WARLORD: "We're trying."
(I had to borrow this pic from Facebook, thanks Timothy Michael Walton!)
I had just thanked them for coming to LCW a while back & said it was good that they were still out there..... This was actually a little sad..... I felt kind of bad.
Oh well, The Barbarian actually did a fabulous job signing his figure! I only decided to get his signed at the last minute, but I'm sure glad I did!
Unfortunately - I didn't have one for Warlord to sign.... sad, sad Warlord....
BILL APTER: "Here's my Bret Hart impression"
Apter was doing all kinds of wrestler impressions..... I had run into him at the Philly movie screening of "Resurrection of Jake The Snake", so I thought I would get this signed... Also bought his book & had him sign that, too. I asked him for some advice for an aspiring wrestling photographer..... He gave me his business card & said I could send my photography to his website, 1wrestling.com..... I might just do that!
So, overall - a great, busy, but FUN weekend! Thanks so much for reading! GET OUT & SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDY FEDS!
