Relatively quick report today. Blue Meanie, Sabu, and Shane Douglas were in Toronto today for Greektown Wrestling. Having met Shane Douglas several times, I didn’t need him and while I initially thought I didn’t need Sabu, I found him on a magazine cover while rummaging through my collection for Lex Luger covers last week, so I brought that along to get autographed. Blue Meanie was a name I haven’t met before, so I was looking forward to getting him. The preshow meet and greet was to start at 4 and I get there a few minutes beforehand because I didn’t expect too big of a turnout. I was about tenth in line with about 15-20 more people coming after me for the meet and greet. We were briefly told that things are running behind but didn’t realize how behind things actually were. About twenty minutes later, Blue Meanie arrives. Then, we wait and wait, and don’t get any more updates. Finally, at 5:45, Sabu and his valet, Super Genie, arrives. Then, at 6 (two hours late… which was the time the show itself was supposed to start), someone from the company tells us that they are going to let us in for the meet and greet, and that Shane Douglas hadn’t arrived yet but would be out signing at intermission for meet and greet ticketholders. Thankfully, I didn’t need Shane anyway. Once we are let in, we get directed to the meet and greet area. Before entering the meet and greet area, you would first pay for any extra autographs you wanted on top of the autograph included with the ticket. I pay for my extras then proceed to meet the wrestlers. The first would be the Blue Meanie. I shake his hand, ask him how he is, and he returns the question back to me. I tell him that I saw his posts on Instagram of him touring Niagara Falls. He said that it was him and “Mrs. Meanie” touring Niagara Falls and that it was a good time. I had him sign his three entries in the encyclopedia, to which he said, “you got them all!” I also added him to the back of my Rise and Fall of ECW DVD cover. Once he signed, we took the photo and he thanked me for coming. Blue Meanie was really friendly and a fun guy to meet. I then join the line to meet Sabu, which took about ten minutes to get through. I put my two magazines on the cover and Super Genie tells me that they were told that fans get one autograph. I tell her that I paid for the extra autograph and she tells me that they weren’t told about that. She wasn’t rude or anything, but she was definitely all about business. Sabu signs for me anyway. He first signs the PWI magazine cover. I then open up a centerfold of another PWI magazine that featured Sabu. I didn’t want Super Genie to sign it, but Sabu handed the marker and magazine over to Genie and she signed it before I could say anything. I cringed on the inside but knew there was nothing I could do about it. Still happy with everything though. After he signed my stuff, we posed for the photo to end off the meet and greet. That’s it for today’s report. Thanks again to those who continue to read these!

Meanie seems like an awesome guy to chat with. He doesn't get enough credit in the industry, especially given he made 3PW.

Glad to hear you had a good experience at the Chinlock show. A friend of mine is the promoter there and I know he was working tirelessly to make the event a success.

I've met Meanie a few times. He's a really nice, cool guy.
I've met Sabu & Genie twice. I felt like I needed a bath afterwards.

Meanie is a great guy. I would've freaked if Genie signed my stuff.

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear you had a good experience at the Chinlock show. A friend of mine is the promoter there and I know he was working tirelessly to make the event a success. Jan Murphy? I've spoken to Jan online a few times and he's always really responsive to my questions, which is great. At the event itself, I saw him running around to make sure everything went smoothly. The event definitely went well and I believe they're planning to do it again next year. Meanie is a great guy. I would've freaked if Genie signed my stuff. Lol I would have freaked if she did that to my encyclopedia.

Quick report to round out the month. TJ Perkins was in Hamilton, ON today for Alpha-1 Wrestling. Doors were to open at 3 and TJ Perkins was scheduled to be signing before the show. I intended to get there a few minutes before 3, but our 45-minute drive doubled because of traffic. Ended up arriving around 3:40, which was just twenty minutes before the show itself was supposed to start. I go in, pay my admission, and see that TJ is still in the ring signing autographs. There was a line of about 5 people, which i join. A few minutes later, it is my turn to meet TJ. I pay the handler $30 for two autographs, and go up to TJ and shake his hand. I tell him that it is nice to see him again and he returns the thought. I first have him sign his basic figure in a light blue paint pen. Before he signs, I ask him to make it out to me. He confirms the spelling of my name, then signs. I've met TJ twice before and he's always really friendly and humble, so I thought I'd get his thoughts on what might be a touchy subject - approaching wrestlers at hotels and airports. TJ says that he doesn't mind people coming up to him at those places and that he appreciates it. He even said that he "appreciates the hustle" it takes to meet wrestlers at hotels and airports. I thought that was really interesting to hear considering that other wrestlers have the complete opposite viewpoint. (Let's not turn this thread into a debate, please). I then have him sign his Network Spotlight elite in purple. After he signs the two figures, we shake hands and thank each other again. Having met him before, I didn't need a photo-op, and like before, TJ was really friendly, humble, and down-to-earth. And that's it! June was a super busy month. From meeting Ultimo Dragon on the first to meeting TJ Perkins on the thirtieth, and everyone else in between (including the Deadman!), as well as a couple of concerts (Petula Clark and Neil Sedaka) sprinkled in. I don't have any July signings planned, so this might be it until Summerslam weekend. Thanks for reading!

Quick report today as a little appetizer of what’s to come. Trish Stratus appeared at the Rogers Cup in Toronto today to advertise Summerslam. She was slated to start signing at 2PM, but I get there at around 10:45 and roam around the free festivities being offered for the weekend. I got there early out of fear that there might already be a line for her. Turns out, there wasn’t a line yet and it was recommended to start lining up at 1:30. While roaming around, I bump into josecalderon (Ryan) and his friend, where, together, we find a table near where Trish was scheduled to sign to sit at to kill time. Trish was to sign at the main stage of the event, which always had something going on. For example, mascots from Paw Patrol were available for photo-ops with kids on the main stage. Here’s where things got a bit annoying… the MC/host at the main stage came off as obnoxious. I don’t think he intended to, but he was trying to be funny and wasn’t doing a good job at doing so. We even cringed at the way he spoke to the kids getting photos with the Paw Patrol mascots. The line had been cut off such that the next thing at the main stage can get started, but a couple of more kids wanted photos. The way the host handled it came off as unprofessional as he sounded annoyed at the kids (they’re just kids!). Anyways, time passed by pretty quickly because I had people to talk to in Ryan and his friend. At around noon, a tennis player takes the stage and starts signing autographs. I know nothing about her, so it didn’t hold much weight to me. However, once she finished signing, the host said that Venus Williams will be signing autographs at 1. Knowing that Venus is a huge name, the three of us thought that, since it’s a free signing, we might as well go meet her. However, the issue was we didn’t have anything to get signed. Therefore, Ryan’s friend who is extremely nice, goes over to the merchandise area to buy some tennis balls for us. 1 o’clock comes and Venus isn’t out yet. She finally comes out at 1:20… eating an apple and walking with no sense of urgency, even though she’s late. A mini Q&A happens with a few kids, and then the autograph signing starts. It went really quickly as there was a decent line and she had limited time. Ryan and his friend went up before I did. Ryan took pictures for his friend to which event staff said, “no pictures”, even though other staff said pictures were okay. Seeing that, I decide to selfie my photo-op while she was signing, which turned out decent. Oh, and remember that host I mentioned? A lady tried to get two autographs, and the host yelled into his microphone “only one autograph!!” … the host was standing close to the lady – I don’t think the microphone was necessary. I thank her, then head off the stage and join the line that was beginning to form for Trish. Trish was slated to come out at 2PM, but she came out at 2:15. The line moved slowly because of how Trish likes to converse with everyone. However, event staff was trying to move people along with stressing the whole one autograph per person rule. At some point, the host announced no personalizations also. Trish is always really cool and under other circumstances would have no problem signing multiples and personalizing; it’s just the staff that that were being anal about it. I brought extra items, which I was planning to try and get signed on top of the one autograph; however, seeing how picky the staff were, I just stuck with a figure. Ryan and his friend meet Trish before I do. When I go up to Trish, I hand her my figure with my “To Alex” note on it. The handler says: “she’s not personalizing” and I say: “okay that’s fine” (because in my head, I knew Trish would do it). I tell Trish that its nice to meet her again, and she asks me where we’ve met before. I tell her that I met her at a convention a few years ago. She then asks me for my name, and says, as she signs: “I’ll sneak your name onto this”, then jokes “I’m gonna get in trouble! She’s [the handler] gonna take away my snacks!”. I laugh and say: “oh no! I’ll get you some snacks!”. Once she signs, we pose for a picture then thank each other, and she says that she appreciates me for coming. Pretty good couple of signings - especially considering they were free! Trish was really nice, as always. That’s it for today! Stay tuned next week for when Summerslam invades Toronto. I’ve got a bunch of meet and greets planned, which I intend to aggregate into one massive report! Thanks for reading!
