I dont understand why you open them and yet you keep the box. How is that any different to any other way to collect an item?
I open my figures and throw away the box. How does that make you feel?

I feel a MOC collection is much more impressive looking.

Because it's only new when it's still in the box. I want a chance to open these another day when/if I feel like it.
I have a loose collection too. My five year old plays with them

Can someone explain to me the thing that people save their figures MOC? I personally can not understand it because I open all my figures, I indeed keeps the boxes but I'm always open them. I know their value more expensive as they are reserved inside the box, but still .. can not understand. I agree with the others that if the package looks cool, keep it MOC. Resale is definitely better for MOC, but if you don't plan to resell, it doesn't matter either way. Price speculation is hard. You never know what figure will be worth more down the road and which is worthless. I doubt that MOC Val Venis I saved in my closet all these years is worth all that much now. Do what makes you happy. i actually was asking a similar question earlier about saving boxes, but once they are opened, saving the boxes seems like a waste of space.

I collected the Flashbacks from series 12 to whatever 23 i think with the white because i liked the way they looked in the box. Now i open them all. I don't understand people who open them and hold onto the box. it won't be worth anymore if you put it back in. its already loose.

I kept 4 figures MOC in my apartment for about 4 yrs and about 3 more in the house I used to live in. So 7 years of keeping space for those things. They were of some old jakks figures, figured they would be worth something one day. I checked ebay a few months back and nothing I have goes for higher than 20 bucks. I said screw it and opened them. Threw out the boxes. Now I have a ton of space free in my closet and more figures on my display that take up less room. Even the most expensive mattel figure that I've seen was maybe 80 bucks MOC. That's peanuts to me. I'd rather get some enjoyment out of the figure than find room for it. Yeah, the new packaging looks amazing, but meh. Nothing is ever going to end being worth much to me on the second hand market, so I'll pass. If I collect anything mint, I need to get into Nintendo products. Zelda games seem to hold insane value for YEARS. I care about the return investment more than a collectable in that case. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my loose figures. I don't even mind buying loose, either. It's cheaper lol. You just put a lot in perspective for myself and you're right about the Nintendo products... I was looking for some Gamecube games and was shocked at the prices lol. Sealed games are also ridiculous. Made me rethink about ignoring my Wii U If I had the space and money, I'd buy dupes of all my figures to keep MOC and display alongside my loose collection. I'd probably even buy store shelving to hang them on. Considering all the other stuff I want to display in my apartment (classic gaming, a massive movie and game collection, other wrestling memorabilia) that's just not in the cards unless I'm magically single again (gf won't let me take over THE WHOLE apartment lol). Even if they wouldn't remain valuable in the long run, it'd still make a kick ass display. But the reality is, I got limited space and figures cost a boat load to begin with. The most I can do is just make my loose collection look as impressive as possible. If folks got the space to dedicate to MOC display, more power to them. Mattel gets their money either way lol. I don't think they'd care if we lit them all on fire after, as long as we paid for them first When I was younger, I used to keep the carding of my figures. I just liked to look at the back and read the bios or see other figures in the set. That was way before the internet, though. Now I don't care -- all that info is at your finger tips with a Google search. I had to throw out alot of stuff when I moved, even cards I kept for YEARS. Hell, my mom even offered to take some of my figures off my hands because I don't have the space. Alot were MOC. When I get them back, I'll open them or sell the dupes.

For whatever reason I display my wrestling collection loose. My Neca and Star Wars die casts I keep MOC.
I love to way Mattel displays loose. The new packaging makes it a little more of a question to open it up.

I started opening boxes also because I was running out of room in my designated corner in our apt until we move into a house soon. As far as the boxes, I cut off the backs. Yes, having dupes is way too much on top of buying figs in general, so I narrowed it down to a certain select few guys and DMs for dupes. I've even taken back all the dupes I've questioned myself for having, as to "why do I need them?" Even returned a few DM dupes. Certain special boxing is cool to have two of for open and closed. I realized later, open displays look pretty good depending on how they're displayed. Granted, my Funkos and horror McFarlanes are still in box, with a half/half Transformers mix.

Because it's generally what collectors do. I'm a mix of both, I open my figures and after I'm done looking at them, posing them, etc. I put them back in the box and display them.
