Just heard that EX-UFC Champion and PRIDE legend has passed away today. Just wanted to pay condolences. Apparently he died in the hospital due to pneumonia. I was pretty shocked to read this he was only 44.

"The Monster" was one of my favorites from the early days of UFC due to his athleticism and power. What's strange is even though he was more accomplished in UFC, my favorite moments of his were from Pride when he knocked out Cro Cop and that Belly to Back suplex to Fedor.
His overall record wasn't the most eye popping at 17-16, but man he fought the best guys for much of it. Maurice Smith, Bas Rutten, Couture, Liddell, Rampage, Babalu, Fedor, Cro Cop twice, Shogun and Ninja Rua, Sakuraba, Rizzo. And almost 20 years of active competition should give him a special place in fight fans' hearts. On top of that, he was the ultimate gentleman and professional, one of the good guys in the sport.
