I found out Friday that I have a bulging disc in my lower back. I'm pretty bummed about it as the Doc said no more running or jumping, which means no more basketball. It sucks to be told at 25 that it's not wise to play ball anymore.
I'm going to start back with DDP yoga today. My body never felt better than when I was doing that, so with my back I need to still be able to exercise but with caution. I'm going to get a good week or so back into it and see how I feel. If I'm not feeling any pain, I'm going to go the the gym and just shoot around by myself. If I don't hurt while shooting or even afterwards, then I feel confident that I can at least shoot around and still enjoy playing ball, I just won't be able to play competitively. Sucks too, as I was well on my way back to being able to dunk.
Anyhoo, I'm leaving it up the Lord. All I can do is take care of my body the best I can.

I haven't tried ddp yoga (too broke to buy it) but I saw the infomertial about the guy who could barely walk and needed crutches and the drs said that was his life. ddp yoga and he can run now! you know your body better than anyone, take time and heal up bro but get stronger and like you said, just stay strong in the Lord.

Restarting DDP Yoga. 3 days in so far. Doing it twice a day, everyday. Once when I wake up, once at night. I'm feeling pretty good so far. Kicking myself for stopping in the first place. Holy , doing Fat Burner 4 times in two days has got me beat. Won't stop me from doing it tonight though~!

All I can do is take care of my body the best I can. i've had a herniated disc at my l5 s1 (lower back) for about 10 years now. it sucks, as i was a very active person beforehand, but had to stop a lot of them because of their repeated impact on the spine. same with a lot of training exercises - squats, heavy overhead presses, deadlifts all out of the window. which are some of the best muscle building exercises there are. the good news is that with proper consideration (you're already doing that with ddp yoga, not planning to play competitively) you can still live life fully. there are days when walking is difficult and there are days when i feel good enough to be very active again. most of it revolves around diet and taking care of yourself. i'd suggest...and this is years before it's even a relevant issue...but that you eventually look into trt in your 40s. as muscle breaks down around our spine over time and we also age, the back is going to become a more exhausting/prevalent issue. a medically approved dosage of testosterone could help keep us up and running, feeling pretty good, and not having to worry about it until older age. already long car rides are a bit much for me to endure, and generally sitting is terrible. my final suggestion would be to avoid pills for any back pain you have. it's a very slippery slope.

You're spot on, man. Admiringly, I've let my dieting kinda slip since it started causing me problems and I didn't work out for about two weeks. I've cleaned my eating back up and have started my DDP yoga again. It's not giving me any issues during the workout or after, which is a great thing. I'm going to do everything I can to avoid pain pills. I've fought that battle before, and it was a tough fight but I pulled through. I'm on a good anti-inflammatory(only as needed). I haven't taken any since last Friday and I am feeling good. I'm just trying to be very conscientious with everything I do. I know I could hurt myself worse by doing something foolish and not thinking about what I'm doing. I'm trying to improve my posture daily, as I don't have great posture anyway. I'm feel good now knowing I can confide in you on back issues as you know my pain, albeit yours is worse than mine. Thanks for the help brother

i did legs on monday and pushed myself pretty hard and i'm still limping around heavily today! not bad pain though, just heavy soreness. planning to ideally still hit the gym later today for chest.
a buddy of mine moved in to my place's extra room so we've been going to the gym together. he's a really good motivator for those extra reps so hopefully there's quite a bit of productivity that comes out of our workouts.

Sup all. I made one of these a year ago. So, I have moobs and I am about 5'10" and 230 pounds. I really need to cut weight and I have a tendency to eat a lot. I sit inside and game almost all day. I used to have access to a gym and don't anymore. I do have weight bench downstairs and I believe a curling bar? That's it. I really need help guys. This has gotten ridiculous. Please help! I was actually 5'10/11" 234.5 back in april 2012. This past saturday I weighed in at 170.5 (hell, I was down in the 170's by Feb 2013, but have fluctuated a bit since then) it can be done. 170.5 is the least I've ever weighed in my adult life. I graduated HS at around 180

Had a great workout earlier today. Went to the track and did 2 miles, which I thought was gonna kill me. I think I realized my cardio is actually better than I thought it was. Then after that we went to the gym and worked on upper body.
You ever get that feeling driving home from lifting weights where you're moving the steering wheel and it's actually a struggle because of how sore you are?

going rock climbing for the first time today...should be a good core workout! going with a buddy who is a bit experienced, but i plan to take it pretty easy for the first time and see how it goes.

I was back in the gym today for the first time in weeks...these 55-60 hour work weeks are killing me. Great shoulder work out though, felt amazing.

I had no idea there was a health/workout/fitness thread on WF! Anywho, I have battled obesity my entire life admittedly. I was always the "fat kid" in school. I was bullied because of my weight, and even became homeschooled because of the problem when a teacher called me fat in front of 25 students. I started back in 2005, and I think by 2007ish I lost well over 100 pounds. By 2010 I had lost a total of 125 pounds. Started at 300+ pounds, and got down to 165. Then I went through a really rough time after my relationship and got back up to well over 200 pounds. I joined Planet Fitness back on December 27, 2015 in hopes I trying to retake control of myself. Since January 3rd, I've lost around 30 pounds, and I have began to actually slim down and tone a bit. I definitely have a ways to go, but I'm happy so far. Tons of bumps in the road, but struggles make it worth it. These are my progress pictures thus far. Definitely have a ways to go but so far, so good.

The current goal is to continue to lose fat in my legs/stomach/sides for now. Once I feel comfortable in my own skin(which I most likely never will as I still see myself as a 300+ pound guy still) is to work on building muscle. Definitely looking forward to contributing to the thread though!
