Your kid's a bit younger than mine, I think. Mine turned 2 in November.

My kid's current favorite trick is not falling asleep unless he's held, and then waking up the first 7 times you think you finally have him out and try to get him into the crib.

I finished my RP. I really enjoyed writing this one. I've just been in the mood to write lately. I will post it later once I've gotten the 'ok' from a certain individual.

I have to wonder what the hell I was doing in high school when a 1000 word essay seemed daunting to me, since now I crank out 1000 words on an RP like it is absolutely nothing.
On a related note, I hate the clickhole that I get into on Wikipedia. I don't know how I got from Arrow to butterflies, but I did.

I've been saying it for years that e-fedding helps in all areas of writing. The interesting thing about how it helps with academic writing is that it helps establish a voice (which as much as academics want to discourage that, they know there is a certain tone when reading someone's paper). Another factor is that fedding helps the ability to expand on points. Take any type of research paper. Yes you obviously cite a source, but you still have enough to expand on that information and make the connection to your point. Vocabulary helps in both mediums, but how about the age old advice given in fedding, making your words count. With all the flowery language and long narratives, some of the most successful are able to tell a great story in a very succinct fashion. Same goes for academic writing, where a longer paper can hurt you more than a short paper in some instances, especially with a word count.

I was simply commenting on how fluid the writing process has been recently for me, in contrast to how it once was. I know that length has no correlation to quality, and how a great narrative can be told in the matter of few sentences. This place has greatly improved me as a writer and as a student of literature.

I'm not ever going to try and claim that any writer has had more of an influence on my style and approach than S.E. Hinton. The wannabe intellectual would look at my reading habits and cite influences like George Orwell or Kurt Vonnegut or some sh*t like that. That's entertainment, maybe a little bit of a brain exercise or reading comprehension (a LOT of reading comprehension in regard to KV). For my money, pushing 31 and having first read Jurassic Park (the Crichton original, not some movie novelization) over the course of two days at the age of 8 or 9 and thereby thinking I have some clue as to what I'm talking about, you'd be hard pressed to convince me of the existence of a better story than that of the night that Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade got in too deep with a couple of Socs. That book's about as thick as a new checkbook at the onset, but if you can't walk away from it telling me how every last greaser was feeling in the leadup to the big blowoff rumble, then brother, reading maybe just isn't for you.

I can't say any authors really have inspired my writing. Music has more than anything.

I center my pieces around my monologues and my monologues are almost always a reference to a song or in some instances some obscure TV show I like/used to like.

Just started my next rp, because that's what I do. I don't know how my brain is working these days, but Jesus Christmas, I cannot WAIT to take off writing this new character.

Those things are cake for me now, because it's a lot easier than it was when I was younger to express what I am thinking through words. Also, Dex, my RP is going well, I think. Thanks for asking! As for inspiration, my biggest is easily Orson Scott Card. The Ender series was the first book series that I got so into that I would have a very serious desire to read it constantly. Oh, and TCM, of course, the guy who told me about this place and is the only reason that I am even here. Thanks, buddy.

And I agree about writing here helping real world writing. I think anyone who's been here long enough can attest to that.

Here's another lesson that's as true here as it is in real life - unless you're 100% down with someone, don't do anyone any f*ckin' favors. My wife's cousin is just getting her family back on their feet - new place, all that. We offered them a couple of appliances that came with our new place that we already had and were just sitting there. This piece of sh*t husband of hers was supposed to be here two f*ckin' hours ago with a truck and is nowhere to be found.
As I was typing this, the idiot showed up. At my kid's bedtime. Alone. In an SUV. To collect two full size appliances stored in my basement. This has become my entire night.
And people wonder why I'm such a crotchety assh*le.

I just powered through 6 hrs of lab report, spent 20 minutes on hold with my doctor and my summer job, and have a lab in another 20.
I don't want to be an adult, guys. Can I go from 20 to 17 and stay there forever?

I'm starting to get nervous that this RP won't be done in time. May have bit off more than I can chew.
