I've said a few times before, and particularly recently with people talking about an "end game", that I've been making a transition to a loose collection.
It started in November 2014, when my collection grew so large, that I had to say enough is enough. (We don't get many square feet per pound in London!!!) It's not just wrestling figures I have from all manufacturers, but also Star Wars, Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats, M.A.S.K, and other random odds and ends.
Another contributing factor in my decision, was that I could rarely look at my figures, because they are all in Crates and plastic storage boxes. It was quite sad that in 5 years, I've never been able to share my collection with the board, when so many do.
I think my collection probably peaked 6 months ago at over 3000 figs. I started to sell the dupes I had acquired from buying large collections, and duplicate MOC figures.
Then some basics MOC's that I don't really know why I had them to begin with!!
This week however, came a crunch moment.....
I didn't think I would ever sell my Elites. I had every one. Inc. Exclusives, Legends, etc. but I looked at all the ones I have loose, and thought, "What the hell", and dug out 96 Elites that I thought I don't really need anymore.
And lo and behold, I sold figures from Elite 3, 4, 10 and 14 yesterday.
It was a sad moment, but also, it's lifted a weight off my shoulders. The amount of space taken up by 96 Elites, is the same as what my entire loose collection will take up when I have my cabinet built.
I've flown through the apex of the collecting bend. My figure OCD has been smashed in the process!! And now I can concentrate on making and sharing the greatest Wrestling figure display in history, someone else can enjoy the carded figures, and my missus can shut up as they will be in 1 room only!!!
Not a lot of point to the story, but it was big moment for me, and might inspire someone else who finds themselves in a similar predicament.
