Man, Machado is going to look good in those red pinstripes. If they somehow have the money to keep Hoskins and Nola, then sign Machado this year and Trout in 2020 that’s 2-3 championships in the 2020’s. Knowing the Phils though they’ll probably overspend on signing/resigning old, washed up players and exit the playoffs early every year if they even make the playoffs. The Phils have a crazy amount of money they could spend. Hoskins isn't even a concern right now. He's not arbitration eligible until 2021, and wouldn't be a free agent until 2024. Nola will command a decent bump next year when he's arbitration eligible, but we still have plenty of money to lock him up, sign Machado, sign Trout next year, and have more left over to address other immediate needs *cough* pitching *cough*.

The question is whether they want to spend it. Machado and Trout would likely be $200m+ contracts and the pieces around them would add up too. They do have the money to be a contender, they just need to realize they’ll end up making more by spending it.

I want the coaching staff, I want the front office, I want the fans, I want other players, I want even other baseball organizations to know that we're serious about winning and we're going to do what it takes to win." ~ John Middleton He definitely doesn't seem scared to open the wallet up if it's worth it. It's gonna be an interesting off-season for sure, but I feel like we have the inside track to Machado right now thanks to the previous front office connections.

I heard that Manny Machado wants to go the Yankees next season.
If this is true, good for the Yankees.

I doubt they’ll actually do anything major. Machado wants to go to the Yankees, and Harper will probably stay in Washington or sign with Chicago. We’ll sign some 30+ year old whose production will drop off a cliff as soon as he puts on a Phillies uniform. That’s just what happens with Philly sports teams.

Manny Machado is really taking every opportunity to showcase himself on the big stage....but not in a good way. Every time you turn around he's being highlighted for either laziness and lack of hustle, or plays which indicate he might even be a dirty player.
When his appearance in the Postseason could almost be considered an audition on a National Scale for his impending Free Agency and the Yankees having a boat load of money to potentially offer him....he's not passing his audition with flying colors. The Yankees do NOT need another high priced player with attitude issues, lack of hustle, and who plays the game the wrong way.
I'm leaning toward the Yankees NOT signing Machado. Let's put that money into STARTING PITCHING.
The Yankees could easily move Gleyber Torres to Shortstop and sign a second basemen like DJ LeMahieu. Jed Lowrie is another option. Brian Dozier and Ian Kinsler might be options as well.
I just don't want the Yankees to go with a question mark like trying to have people like Neil Walker, Ronald Torreyes or Adeiny Hechavarría play full time while they wait for Didi. He's probably going to miss at LEAST half the season and you can't afford to get no production out of wherever Gleyber isn't, especially with First Base being a massive question mark because we still don't know if Luke Voit is legit or of he was smoking the same pixie dust as Shane Spencer and Shelley Duncan.
I'd even argue that Left Field is a question mark for the Yankees. Are we bringing back McCutchen? Are we bringing back Gardner? Somebody else? Are we risking it and giving the job to Clint Frazier who has a MASSIVE injury history in his short career?
Obviously Starting Pitching is priority #1. I would sign Patrick Corbin, and then I would probably consider bringing back Happ. I'm intrigued by Nathan Eovaldi. He's been a damn good pitcher since coming back from Tommy John and he made us humble in the Postseason....I just don't know if I want to play that game again and risk getting bad Nate again.
Cashman and hal will have to decide what they want to do and what they want to spend.

I'm all set with Eovaldi. Bridge is burned, he's overachieving right now.
Bring me Corbin, re-sign Happ. I'll take CC back on a cheap deal too. Get Harper to play 1st. Re-Sign Gardner as the 4th OF....and go into the season with Stanton/Hicks/Judge + Gardner. Plus you have Harper for OF if really needed. Voit is the full time DH/backup 1st. Anyone could fill Didi's spot defensively, I'd say keep that Hechavarría kid, he's ridiculously good on defense and not bad with the bat. I'd like to see them keep Walker around too but I doubt that happens because some team will prob offer him a full time deal.
and also, just release Ellsbury already. Its done.
