Cubs are out to a 3-0 lead. They really need this, but why couldn't they play better against St. Louis and Miami? The Reds are going nowhere. They need to beat good teams. The same goes for the Mets, whom they're playing next. They're playing iffy now too. Where was that last October? I know a win is a win but they have to beat good teams, too. They beat a lot of good teams early when the lineup was completely healthy, including the sweep of the Nats. The lineup is in perpetual shift right now with Rizzo and his back and Fowler being out. Contreras is a breath of fresh air. I mean Arrieta is struggling with location right now but he's still 12-2 with a 2.10 ERA. Lester is awesome right now. Arrieta was 10-5 with a 2.66 ERA at the break last year. So even as he struggles, he's excelling. Montero's struggles might land him as odd man out since Gpa Rossy has been great this year and Contreras is going to live up to the hype. La Stella and Szczur have both been great off the bench and you have to think Soler will get back at it through the warmer days of summer where he seems to really get going. This is exactly what they needed. They always struggle against the Marlins and the Cardinals series wasn't pretty, but it was more quiet than usual because they're still sitting comfortably at the top of the division. The bullpen was always an issue that everyone agreed was going to get worked out at the deadline, likewise for an additional rotation guy. I'm curious to see Adam Warren get a shot though. I think he's legit as a back end rotation starter and these spot starts might be good for everyone. Hammel and Hendricks have both had really good first halves though. It's 162 game season. You really can't start worrying about October in June-July. We're all-in this year. It's World Series or bust, but in order to do that they need to keep tacking on wins, against good teams and bad. If this was September, I'd agree with your concern but there is still so much baseball left and the roster isn't going to look exactly the same come the fall anyway. They started off on an incredible run and they were bound to come back down to Earth. You just want them to be clicking again on all cylinders come the end of the year. The playoffs are largely a crapshoot. Good teams go cold, and weaker teams get red hot. The only thing a team can do is get there and then see what happens. You know why Arrieta has good stats? He began 2016 the way he left 2015. I know every game counts and you have to get to October. Seeing though as they're most likely going to be there, that's what matters to me. The Reds are going nowhere. The Marlins? The Cardinals? We're talking about two teams the Cubs could potentially face as those squads are in the mix for one of the two Wild Cards and what did the Cubs do? Lose six of seven. 2016 is not 2015. While I wanted a World Series last year, last year was 'Golly, it's just good to be here.' 2016 is much different. The stakes are raised. Any team not named the Cubs hoisting the Commissioner's Trophy will be heartbreaking. They have to match wits against a more experienced and seasoned Giants team, which has never lost a playoff series under Bruce Bochy. The likes of Lester, Arrieta and Lackey have to match Bumgarner, Cueto and Samardzija and San Francisco has been red hot. I don't care about the regular season. I don't care if this team wins 100 games. Let Murphy have the MVP. Let Kershaw or Strasburg have the Cy Young. Do you think the Warriors care about 73 wins now after blowing a 3-1 lead to the Cavs? Yes this is a great regular season. This is one of, if not the most talented Cubs team I've ever seen. I watched and went to Wrigley when they were cellar dwellers. I watched and attended the Friendly Confines when they went to the playoffs. The regular season is important. Yes. The playoffs are much more important to me.

I'm not arguing that, but you're stressing about a team that is months away from needing to be ready for October. I'm also worried about the Giants, down the road. They're legit and have the experience. Again, I'm with you, but you really can't stress out about who they are or aren't beating in the regular season in June. Every team over the course of the season goes through struggles. Teams who have had white hot first halves have failed to make the playoffs. This team is for real. They're going to be alright. You're all doom and gloom over a stretch of games that didn't even feature their full starting lineup, specifically the Marlins series.
They're a more complete team this year than last year. The Dodgers, the Cardinals, the Pirates, the Nationals, they've got more wins than losses against all of those teams. They have Texas right after the break which should be a nice test for them. That Giants series in early September is going to be a big one. I've got tickets to the Sunday game of that series and I've been eyeing that all year. They also get to play the Pirates and Cardinals plenty down the stretch. They're going to be tested and ready.
Everyone is excited about this team, but it's still baseball. No team is going to be perfect for 162 games, and when they aren't perfect that's not reflective of what they'll do in October.

Well, they just swept.
Now take down the Mets.

Hahaha oh man, the Yankees are such a sh*t show this year it's almost funny. Brian McCann just hurt himself rounding first base on a HOME RUN TROT. This is amazing.

And then he hits a game tying 3-run home run. Yeah, winning a game is always great....but the Yankees have been teases all year. They suck for a long time, then for a few games in a row they'll just dominate and tease you with what they MIGHT be, but they always undo all of that by then losing multiple games in a row. This win means nothing unless the Yankees go out there and go on a major tear. If they lose the next 4 games in a row, this was really for nothing other than making Yankee fans feel a little excitement for a few minutes before we remember we are 9 games behind.

In my opinion the Yankees won't be true contenders until they replace their over-the-hill players with their touted prospects.

Phillies pitching prospect Matt Imhof had to get his right eye removed after a resistance band came free from the wall and hit him in the face.

i cant remember a season like this ever for the Yankees
one day we need to trade the entire team for prospects the next day, nah things are good....they just need to hang in there next day, how much you want for Chapman? next day, maybe they can get on another streak
lose 4 games to the rockies 2/2 split with the rangers
the Yankees are the equivalent of 2015-2016 WWE booking

Phillies pitching prospect Matt Imhof had to get his right eye removed after a resistance band came free from the wall and hit him in the face. This is absolutely awful... kid was only 22 and had his dreams ripped away from him. What an incredibly mature perspective to take on the accident though. I'm sure he'll be taken care of financially because of what happened, but that's hardly a consolation prize for losing one of your eyes and having to transition your entire life virtually overnight. I hate these kinds of stories. Maybe the kid never makes it to the Bigs, but I don't like to ever hear about guys going out with injuries prematurely and never really getting that shot, let alone something as freaky as this situation. I know he's positive right now, but in my experience from being around somewhat similar situations in hockey, the tough days are ahead. He's going to be filled with what ifs and what could have beens. My hope is that he had a backup plan in life or at worst he finds one quickly. It's great that he's a alive, and that the eye was the only thing he lost, but that doesn't make it any less fair imo. It's times like this you remember that pro athletes are human beings and most of them are just kids.

Can't help but laugh at the Bobby Bonilla contract, where he has not played since 2001 and will still be getting paid until 2035.

It's probably just something mechanical or he's tipping his pitches. Same thing went on with Pineda where he was giving up a ton of bombs and they adjusted his arm angle and it seems to have settled down. In other news, I hate Aaron Hicks and hope he gets the bird flu.
