I was at Raw last night and AJ was in tears over the reaction he got from the crowd . He stuck around for about 10 minutes after Raw went off the air, meeting fans. He deserves it.

AJ being the #1 contender is a great idea. Roman will end up beating him and WWE knows that will make people boo Roman even harder. Roman seems to be turning heel and this will help advance his heel character.

I don't think it's turning Roman heel. I'm willing to bet that it's the Roman/Bryan scenario. Hoping that a win over a great wrestler will help solidify him as a competitor.

I'd like to think that maybe just maybe they realize that Roman is not the top guy they were looking for and they'll give Styles the championship considering the amount of money they spent to sign him and see what he can do with it.

This reminds me a lot of the early days of Cena-mania. Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to seeing AJ main eventing a PPV but I'm really interested/concerned to see whether they go down the exact same route of "Don't like this guy? Well here's him beating everyone you like". I think there's at least a chance of someone turning. I at least am intrigued by this. Last night, Roman subtlety let the four contenders that he wasn't taking them seriously. He literally waved off Sami, KO and AJ, and was dismissive towards Jericho. This is leading somewhere, and I'm actually excited about it.

I'm just having a hard time finding the negative that other people are seeing here.
Look, Wrestlemania was an absolute mess. I have been among the most critical of that show on this board to my knowledge, I thought it was absolute trash. Raw was...better, but still pretty senseless and lackluster up until the Enzo & Cass debut, then things got really good, really fast. I was absolutely shocked that AJ won, and elated. To me, there's simply no negative here if you go in realizing a couple of things.
1. Roman Reigns isn't going anywhere. He's going to beat Styles. He was going to beat anyone they put in front of him. If you can't accept that and find positivity in other aspects of the show (and trust me, I'm not happy about it) there is nothing left to watch for. I get it, it sucks. Roman is clearly the wrong guy, yada yada, there's no debating it. But it's what they're doing. So, we can either be willing to accept the compromises they're making to try to mitigate his disastrous position, or we have no choice but to look elsewhere.
2. AJ Styles is main eventing a WWE Pay-Per-View. I mean, this is literally a scenario everyone dreamed about when Styles was signed, and multiple people were quick to say "lol Styles will never main event a WWE PPV, mark my words." Now it's happening.
3. Look at the alternatives. Assuming that Roman Reigns is a constant in all of these scenarios, what would you rather see? Do you want Roman to plod through the next several months facing the likes of the Wyatt Family, The League of Nations, and maybe Ryback? How about heel turns from Kane and Big Show? Those are the realistic alternatives until Cena comes back, and when that happens, you can bet it's going to be all about WWE's torch-passing scenario. AJ Styles can have a passable match with a balloon animal. He's going to make Roman look like a million bucks, and lord knows Reigns needs that right now.
I'm already more excited about this match than anything at Wrestlemania. I really, really needed a bone thrown my way after Sunday night. This was enough to get me by, for now.
Now, I say all this with fear in the back of my mind, because I still think that there is a very realistic possibility that Vince and company pull the rug out from under AJ next week and go in a completely different direction, making last night a temporary truce in an otherwise all out war with the audience. I sincerely hope that isn't the case.

If AJ lost last night and continued his feud with Jericho leading to a 5th match, people would complain. If AJ lost last night and faded into mid card obscurity with no real direction, people would complain. AJ won last night and is going to main event a PPV for the WWE Championship 3 months into his run and, you guessed it, people are still complaining. Now I don't think AJ will win but I don't think he'll lose clean and fade away. If he's getting WWE title matches this quick, the company obviously has big plans for him. This. I wonder if this is a result of that marketability study they did.

Wow. Some people will complain about EVERYTHING. They'd find negatives about winning the lottery, I'm sure. What should be done with Styles? Keep him in the mid-card trading wins with other mid-carders for the length of his contract? I bet they'd find a problem with that. Give him a World Title shot (probably at a PPV) less than 6 months after debuting? Already complaining that he's just going to lose. Have him beat Reigns for the title? Bet there'll be complaints about how he's just gonna lose to SuperCena the next week. Seriously, if watching the product makes you that miserable, quit watching, as it's obvious that you can't be pleased.

Balor/Bullet club involvement sounds like internet fan speculation, and a pipe dream...
But it's odd to see this face/face matchup when WWE knows such a large following are STRONGLY on the side of AJ.
I mean, I'm sure they know a heel like KO would still get cheered over Roman.
& Styles/Reigns will be a quality match because of AJ's ability.
It's just a very...odd...decision.
I am not complaining at all, though. Yeah, we know tons of guys will be fed to Roman from now to SummerSlam but this PPV matchup is FAR superior to Roman/Wyatt, Sheamus, or Big Show pt. 3,400.

If Kevin Owens can come in and lose like 3 times to Cena over the US title, I can take AJ losing a WWE title match in the main event.

AJ is facing Reigns. Vince will be back next week and say something to the effect of I let my son control the show he can't control long term wwe plans or some dumb crapand it'll be in the trash. That's just what I think WWE Will do anyway
