Bill explained the jacket situation.
Due to safety issues that he has to follow, it had to be rubber.
He also said that if it was 100% accurate, people would still complain...and he was right.
Im not a sting fan, so i dont care.
But the majority of the posters complaining, will still buy it.

This is my one thing about the DM line now that I hate. The old line you were getting your money worth. The old line most of them has clothed jackets and jerseys for the most part. I thought Mattel was doing it right with the Ric Flair figure, and just for the fact it was the first Hogan figure and they gave us a 80's belt and cross I was good with the rubber shirt. And yes the Crow Sting was perfect, but come on Mattel it is the Defining Moments line for a reason, enough with the budget and will people buy a figure for a certain price, but I feel like the DM line should be more towards collectors please STOP with all the rubber jackets and vest.

Matter of fact, I will be buying 2. I have the feeling it will be one of those figures I will grow to love until the retooled version come along like the Mr Perfect elite.

I agree with this. The DM line was supposed to be higher class figures aimed at collectors. I don't feel like Razor was worth it. hogan in a way either.

Nothing about this figure screams Defining Moment at all. Unfortunately this figure is just a cash cow for Mattel and easily could of been put in the Elite line, but because it's a surfer Sting and everyone will buy it anyway Mattel could get away with it.
I defended the Hogan and Razor DM posts, because personally I didn't mind the rubber shirt on Hogan like most did. To me the figure looked cool enough to be in the Defining Moments box. Same with Razor, while it could of been an Elite the first time Razor figure, the chains, the hairy chest, the vest it still looked cool enough to be a Defining Monent. This looks like it can just be in any Elite box. I don't see the Defining Moments line lasting much after this. Seriously the only accessory at all is his jacket

It does suck. But it's your own fault for buying it. Sculpt looks more like any of us than it does sting. Rubber coat, big torso, skinny legs and prob wrong boots. It's because of ppl like you buying these things that mattel will continue to offer subpar figures going forward.

I want the figure. Taking into consideration some valid points made on this thread will cause me to only buy 1 figure though.

Not buying it isn't going to make them learn a lesson. If anything, it's going to make them do more unpopular budget cuts.

I don't think the figure deserves all this hate... sure, it's not perfect - but it's not that bad either. And figures always look better when you have them in-hand. I agree with those questioning whether it's worth the DM price though... would it have killed the budget to have included the Big Gold belt too? It would have looked great. As it is, it does seem as though it could have been a regular Flashback. Whatever though, I'll definitely be buying it - I LOVE the DM line and really want it to continue... and the more Mattel Sting figures we get, the better (6 in total, already!). : Dude, interested to know what you think is good about it? As a total package, from a distance, it's not too bad. Close up. Doesn't look anything like him. Rubber jackets don't bother me cos I don't remove them but it looks cheap and rubbish compared to the great early cloth jackets. (Macho, HBK) The legs are skinny. The only good think is the little hair tuft!!! Well I really like the attire, for one - and the overall look of the figure (I'll be keeping him in the box, which probably helps). I'm disappointed in the scan - but I don't hate it... I've seen a lot worse. A fabric jacket (like the Macho Man one) would have been great - I think Bill said they had to make it rubber though. It still looks nice. If this was a regular Flashback figure, I think people would like/accept it a lot more - it's the fact that it's a DM one and more expensive which seems to be hurting it (...adding the WHC belt would have made it seem more special and better value for money).

For those saying the face doesn't look like him here is a pic of him during an interview prior to his match at Starcade '90 (the match the Basic is based on) they captured that look near perfectly. They just need to fix the paint application in the mouth so only his teeth are white and not the whole inside of the mouth.

I will say this though. I just rewatched the GAB match and he didn't actually make that power up taunt during the match. At least not that the camera caught. I was combining many of his matches with Flair where he would do that taunt after Flair would chop him. lol

I was buying them all, but I passed on Taker and now this Sting. I really hope we get the two that were cancelled eventually. I feel like Hogan will be back, the other was probably Goldberg or Owen.

I am with PJ, the scan/mouth is just trying to capture a very common expression he would do. I don't think it is bad. Probably could've been better, but I like it fine. It's a $20 toy as stated above, I don't expect perfection. It's a bad scan, unless the moment they are trying to capture is him trying to force out a turd. I don't see Mattel making open handed chop hands to recreate Flairs most used maneuver, so call a buck toothed failure of a scan their attempt to recreate somethings is laughable.

To me personally, it isnt that bad. It isn't great, could be better but it's a matter of opinion. You think it is bad and that is fine. This is far from the 1st time they have tried to capture a wrestlers common facial expression. Snuka, Sid, Brock, Warrior, Hogan, and several more. They don't always come out great. Sting didn't but I can live with it. I open them and give to my kid so I don't look at them the same way as a collector probably. This stuff just doesn't bother me.
