Was anyone else a victim of this playset? Mattel has allowed me to let go of most of my disdain for Jakks. But I can't help but think of the chubby 12 year old me whose heart was forever crushed by this treachery (okay actually until 2008 when they released the RS Cell). Still though... I'll never forget begging my mother to take me to Target nearly every day of the week and looking for this damn thing. Then finally, one fateful evening I got it. The whole way home all I could imagine doing was having a cell match between Undertaker and Kane and breaking their asses through the ceiling door. I remember I opened the box to peek at the parts and I noticed that there wasn't much else in there besides the four walls. But I just kind of shook it off and figured it would all make sense when I put it together. And that it did... I got ed. I don't remember Jakks ever giving any kind of official statement for the blatant fraud they had committed. I do remember them repackaging the set as "Rage in the Cage" later on. I can't help but wonder if anyone out there has the prototype cell that was on the box.

If I'm not mistaken, the official statement at the time was that there was a safety issue with the roof pieces. I remember at the time being 13 and really excited for the set and then finding out online that it didn't have a roof. Still got it and enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as I would have. I did make a custom roof using two panels of the Attitude Ring cage.

I remember getting this and being disappointed at first. I ended enjoying it though. Although it wasn't the cell advertised on the box, it was a really great cage that was a lot better than what I had previously. And to make a top for the cell I just used one side of the cage, as it was easier to play inside the cage with one side off anyways.

Got it on my 11th birthday and it was greatest present I ever received until I opened the box and disappointed is not a word I could use.
What Jakks did was illegal and false advertising. Did they not stop to think that so many children who were expecting a Hell in a Cell would be left devastated.
However on the bright side I grew to love the cage. It was very neat and much better than the one that came with the Attitude ring.

And when the Real Scale Cell came out years later, I had to buy it. And even though I had stopped playing with my figures many years prior to that, I couldn't help but dig out my Kane and Undertaker and finally have that ing match I dreamt about.

My 7th birthday I begged my aunt for it after I already got some figures. It was a travesty! My mind was blown about getting a cell and what was it just a ing cage what a disappointment. However I still want that ring and cage for matters and r3s

Blatant false advertising. Thankfully I never bought it only to be disappointed, I remember the guy in my local figure shop telling me that it was just a steel cage inside and not a cell. I don't think I ever had any intention of buying it anyway. Looking back, it was actually a really good cage.... if you wanted a cage. But still a pretty scummy move by Jakks. I remember the SmackDown Real Sounds Arena being nothing like the prototype either, I've discussed that at length on a thread here not too long ago, but basically the actual product was a cheap rendition of the prototype in every way imaginable and disappointed the out of me on my 9th birthday in 2001 after being excited about it for weeks. Eventually I warmed up to it as the day went on but Jakks for that.

Just fell apart all the damn time.

It was a good size, it looked better and had realistic looking turnbuckles that looked exactly like the real thing you saw on TV. It had the 2 part steel steps like the ones you see on TV and the mat on the outside of the ring was bigger too. To make matters worse, they showed this version of it on the back of the box saying that this was the actual product inside. False advertising at it's lousiest. The actual product? A much smaller ring with two very noticeable sensors on the mat that weren't on the proto. Crappy looking turnbuckles, the steel stairs only had 3 stairs and was a single block that clipped onto the middle of the apron on the side of the ring, even the mat on the outside was much smaller than the one shown in the proto. It just looked like they cut corners everywhere they could. A lot of kids probably wouldn't notice or care but I've always paid attention to detail.

I believe the official comment from Jakks' representative Jeremy Padawadadwaddawder at the time was: "Chinese New Year".

To be fair, when they're MOC no one notices! I really kind of sort of miss that Martin Short looking son of a bitch.

I remember those cool looking MOC RVD's and when I opened them the backs weren't even painted.

I had one of the Raw re-releases (Orton and Batista with their signatures painted on their legs) I loved the set up that attached to the ring, but I hated the sensors and the ring itself. The color was cool( Raw one came with a reddish canvas and black base) I just used it as a crappy ROH/Indy Ring. When I discovered the SD! online, I was heartbroken to see they went from high quality to low. Although, at the time I had no clue the SD! one was just a nice prototype shown.

I was a member of WF even back then (more accurately, a frequent visitor...I was a member on another forum which, at the time, was basically a rival, but it had all the same news), so I would see the people who got it first, then the original angry reviews/posts. So I was well prepared to only get a cage by the time I bought mine. Still, though, sucks ass seeing a HIAC on the box, only to get a steel cage.
