Hey all, I've regrown my collection to around 30 figures now, and recently ive been inspired to create a figure review youtube channel. Do you guys have any figure review channels? If so, any tips for me as I start (as in length of video, how to film it, etc.)? Any support/advice would be appreciated!

I don't have a channel, but if you don't mind an opinion from someone that would be watching it. The reviews I've seen is from people who are way over the top and love toys a little too much at their age. The other problem I always see are reviews that are just way too long. I like how The Verge does their electronic reviews, they're around 3-5 mins long, talk about the specs, and briefly give their own opinion on the product. I would recommend doing something like that, close-ups all around the figures, and keep it professional. I really think channels like Grim are ridiculous, not entertaining, and really just embarrassing.

If you want to follow someone great...James Rowlfe of Cinemassacre. Watch some of his Angry video game nerd videos. He is a great youtuber.
There are many on youtube that suck.
For instance..This guy is terrible. There is nothing more horrible in youtube reviews than looking at an ugly man talking about a toy. He is BORING.

A better point of reference is Monster Madness, if you want to see him do actual reviews on something.

I only care about the comparisons that some reviewers do. The articulation is fine to review, but I want to see how figures stack up against other figures that the viewer likely owns. I think the best reviews show the figures next to others from the line and other figures from other lines that are supposed to be in the same scale.

I think Glenn Webb's pretty good. Can be informative, does comparisons & can be fun IMO.

If you're going to be on YouTube be sure to be uninformed and say "um" A LOT.

If you're going to be on YouTube be sure to be uninformed and say "um" A LOT. And spend at least 25% of the video asking us to subscribe, and have the last 30 seconds of the minute and a half video be other videos of yours with annoying music.

Look, I love the Gaming Historian, but when that Patreon section comes on at the end of a video, like its a PBS TV show, I give the tab the old clicker-roo.

Tommy's Toy Travels is good. Im not a fan of Grim, he is too brief and not that funny. I really enjoy Tommy, but yeah, we're in total agreement on Grim. He seems like a nice guy, but the gimmick is too irritating for me. On topic though, I find Glenn Webb and ShartimusPrime to be my two favorites on YouTube, so you should watch some of their stuff and get a grasp of what to talk about. Comparisons with different figures in the same series/scale is always a plus. When it comes to discussing articulation, it can be tricky, especially if every figure you've reviewed has the exact same points of articulation. And while it may seem like a pain having to constantly repeat yourself in every review, you have to remember that your 100th review might be someone's first time watching you. Bookend the video with a quick but memorable intro and end with a nice gallery of the figure you're reviewing.

I was worried that my opinion on Grim would not be shared. Nothing personal against him, but I 've tried many times to watch his videos, and I never make it through more than a minute or so.
So that would be my personal advice to the OP...do the opposite of Grim.
I agree that ShartimusPrime does some good, informative videos. His shtick irked me at first, but never became grating. PixelDan is still my favorite video reviewer. I know he doesn't do wrestling figures, but as far as style and quality of content, he's a good one to emulate.

Yeah, I'd definitely say Shartimusprime & The Fwoosh as well, the latter does some really good Star Wars reviews.

Just be informative, but also yourself. Describe the points of articulation, the paint apps, the headscan, what you like about the figure, what you don't like, etc. Most of all, though, have fun doing it.
