Mattel has done a wonderful job with its line of WWE figures and I couldn't be happier, but man o' man does the packaging leave something to be desired. Sure, I'm about of box collector and the package means nothing to me in the grand scheme, but a small part of me wanted to do a MOC collection too and Mattel shot that all to hell with the way they produce their boxes.
First off, they update their packaging way too often and there is no unity among what kind of cards the figures come on. They were on to something with the Legends packaging and the classic superstars looked great on those cards and then they evolved into regular elite boxes with a "flashback" logo slapped on them and now they look super generic. Also, the elite line has so many sub lines within it that it feels like someone in the production team has touretts or can't make up their minds. And then to top it off they seem to update the basic line packaging every 8 months or so and the new box art is horrific. I can understand the need for change once in a while and I get wanting to have a different series like Defining Moments or something like that, but do we need Flashback, Elite, Wrestlemania Heritage, Entrance Greats, Basic, Best of Network, HOF, and others? Or would we be fine with a unifying look with a small logo on the front indicating what line it should be in?
I wouldn't mind seeing Mattel start over and re-release older figures (and new ones too) on a unifying card that's branded nicely without too many sub-series kicking around. All figures should come on cards that can be displayed together and the could tag the legends box with a nice "Legends" logo and the WM Heritage line with the Wrestlemania logo and call it a da without going too crazy with a hundred lines with different boxes.
Anyone feel the same about Mattel's packaging? Feel differently? Sound off, kids!

It's not random. It's once a year. We are in our 7th year, and we are on our 7th box art for Elites.
It's refreshing to get new boxes.
I loved Series 1-11 with the windows at the back too. 12 to 24 weren't great. 25-38 was rubbish, but was pleased when they got smaller. The new ones are great. Colourful, good superstar picture, and the alignments to WWF, WWE, NXT etc makes a nice addition.

I agree. I hate the boxes. The graphic design is just not for me, I prefer the Legends bubbles/cards too. 1- It's not as easy for a-hole parts swappers to do their BS and 2- They have a classic look that stand the test of time. The modern boxes, and any of the Elite Boxes so far, have very dated looks IMO. Then the constant changes, ugh, yeah no consistency. It's part of why I open them, not even worth the boxes.
I will give the exclusive RSC boxes a break, they tend to theme them to the wrestler and that's nice. I love HBK's and the nWo boxes. Otherwise I'm with you man, I'm not into these packages. BUT I know my bias, I'm a vintage toy collector and prefer that kind of aesthetic.

I throw them away, so if I did care I would only care for a little bit until I open the figure.

It's the only area Mattel comes up short in my opinion. I think they look great, but they are too easily distoryed and the swap outs are a real problem.

The boxes are fine to me but I wish they wouldn't change them all the time. Every time it's a new box I don't like it at first.

Reminds me of when they changed the boxes for the Simpsons DVD sets for season six. Lots of people got upset, so they offered a box that matched the older ones for free, but you had to send them a survey telling them that you were a humorless nerd that hates creativity and fun.

I like the current packaging the most. If it never changed again I'd be ok with that.

Hahahaha, that is awesome. As for the boxes, I mean...I don't care for them either way. They're not great, but they're not terrible. I only have like 2-3 MOC figures so it's not like I need them all to be uniform. The DM figures are the ones that look nicest, IMO.

My favorite thing about the Simpsons DVD/Blu-Rays is how they release Seasons 1-17 & 20 and then got out of the game in July 2015. Forever an incomplete collection

All boxes look neat, but the newer ones just need to have the numbered series on them. I wouldn't mind if they included the number on HoF boxes as well but eff it. I am a loose collector with a few MOC, but I do keep my boxes. I have some stacked, with my RSC Modern Cage box on top sitting right.

They need to get rid of the slanted top on the latest elite packages. I like to tower my boxes and now because the tops aren't flat, I have to make supports with bits of card.

Oh, another let's knock Mattel thread... Ohhhhh, another Mattel apologist who gets butthurt about fair criticism. Anyways, OP... I agree with you. I'm not a fan of the current packaging either. My favorite was from E12-E19 or however long that style lasted. The blue never really did it for me and the current one is just bad. But I have faith that Mattel will come out with another good one sooner or later.

I throw them away, so if I did care I would only care for a little bit until I open the figure. I *RECYCLE* mine, but yeah, when you collect loose (and I think most people do, especially when you factor in kids) it's not that big of a deal. Do you also complain about the box your Big Mac comes in before you eat it? I remember when they were Styrofoam... Seems like a nod to better days. Here is all I want out of life: Packaging which can allow me to see who each figure is when they go ten deep on a peg without having to dig too far in. Additionally, I cannot stand when they put full circles on the packaging so that it can go on the peg because then if you have a figure you want with five figures in front of it, guess what? You're pulling out six figures and putting the first five of them back up. This only really happens to me now though with Pokemon cards, so I'm cool. Mattel has been doing a good job of making it easy for me to see what figures are on a peg without actually having to see who is in the package itself and take a figure off of a peg when it is five or six figures deep. That's all I really care about. That and them being recyclable, which they are.

I get why people would be upset over all the different package design changes. I really like the newest design though. It's definitely one of the favorites.
I don't know the hell is going on with the Basic packaging nowadays but like 90% of them are completely warped when they're on the shelves.

My favorite was from E12-E19 or however long that style lasted. The blue never really did it for me and the current one is just bad. But I have faith that Mattel will come out with another good one sooner or later. Hi FB! If you want to know what I think about Mattel's packaging, here's something I said about two months back: forum.wrestlingfigs.com/post/7674633/thread2010 - The best. 2011 - Worse than 2010. 2012 - Worse than 2011. 2013 - Worse than 2012. 2014 - The absolute worst. 2015 - Better than 2014 / worse than 2010. 2016 - Better than 2015 / worse than 2010. Unfortunately I'm not an apologist who gets butthurt and doesn't like fair criticism, sorry bud . You can go back if you want and you'll see the several times I've complained about Mattel, their packaging, and plenty of other things, even about Ringside. The reason for my comment was I'm sure you're familiar with the Lorenzo Alcazar / MDT: Lack of effort or lack of ability? thread and since that thread there has been a very drastic drop in connection with Bill & Mattel. Before that time, we were privy to getting little tid bits from Bill, and things felt a little more special. That thread is a perfect example of how things can go sour and ruin the pot. Why keep that around, if its squashed a bit, maybe things can kinda perk back up? Also, its the third very recent thread against Mattel, on top of the several other recent ones. That's my favorite, when its just repetitive thread, after repetitive thread. But hey, you've already pegged me wrong, so why not just shoot from the hip and not know what you're talking about too? Right?
