I don't want to be "that guy".....but does anybody else just HATE Showcases and historical matches? I'm sorry, but I just don't get any thrill or enjoyment out of replaying matches from history that I lived through, watched, and know how they end. It's not even like you get to make your own choices, like maybe they have you reverse history and have Undertaker defeat Brock Lesnar and save the Streak.....but to just go through the motions of a match that has a set outcome....might as well just pop in the DVD because the player literally has no bearing on the outcome.
In my opinion, they need to go back to having original storylines where what the player does actually has an impact on the story. And I know some people are going to be like "that's what career mode is for"....yeah,you're right, but I want to be a WWE Superstar, not a CAW. I want to be able to be my favorite wrestler and have matches and be put in situations where I don't know the outcome.
That would be like buying a baseball or a football came and they make you replay a previous season where you already know which games you won or lost.....how is that fun?
Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Anybody else have any thoughts on this? I simply could not agree with you more. So tired of the replaying history stuff. I loved the original stories they had for a few years running back in the SmackDown vs RAW days. Hell, I even enjoyed playing the yearly John Cena story in those (and I'm definitely NOT a John Cena fan). They were fun and original. Far better than basically killing time with a few moves until the next quick time event while basically watching a past match. If I wanted to watch classic matches, I'd log on the WWE Network.

I hardly ever play the legends showcase, I think the last showcase I actually played was in WWE 13...I get no thrills out of it. It's been 4 or 5 games already, give it a rest. And that concludes my bitching and moaning...

I didn't mind Attitude Era in WWE 13 or the 30 Years of WM in 2k14 but yeah, I'd much rather an original story mode where you have the option of being an in-game wrestler or a CAW. I'd like to be able to choose Women for it this year too.

I completely disagree. I love the Showcase Modes because of all the content we get.
And even if the Single Player mode has a original storyline or is Historically Accurate, you are still going to beat the Mode in quick fashion and then you are left with the rest of the content to make the game into something worth playing. Would you rather have some old Superstars and Arenas to go with the Modern stuff or nothing/small amounts of obscure things like the Druid Arena?

I guess SmackTalks was wrong, he said Rob was painting three a day, but it's just the three (Cena, Sasha, Warrior).

The only thing I like about Showcase is getting all of the unusual guys. I used the hell out of Andre (who should be in every year anyway), Haku, the Natural Disasters, and Jake. I always have a classic show with a roster from the 80s and early 90s. Other than that I never play the matches. If I didn't unlock everything with accelerator it would be a terrible chore to get through to the point that I'd be tired of playing by the time I get to universe. Unfortunately I'm bored sick of Universe too. I need an all new mode with a great deal of control. My Career wasn't my cup of tea, as I hate creating guys. They may look better than ever, but still don't compare with in game models, and you're still severely limited in theme music. They can take out Showcase altogether and focus on Universe, give us an insane amount of options (GM Mode and Story Designer, but more), and still give us a crazy roster size. I don't care who they put in, nobody has a gun to my head, I just deactivated everyone I didn't want. Hell, bring over everyone from last year including Adnan and Mustafa. Just focus on a massive Universe mode, make Universe like a franchise mode in a real sports game. They can do modes similar to defeat or defend the streak, arcade style modes, but it's a Wrestling game, make it so that you control the season. That's what I loved about GM Mode. I swear, some of these Showcases have matches that have appeared in games already, sometimes more than once (let's not forget Legends of Wrestlemania, making some of the Attitude matches trifectas). Hell, 2K15 had matches that occurred the year before. We just saw it, now we have to relive Mark Henry's title reign? Or all of the Christian/Orton matches? Yeah, I'm good on reliving history.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this? Original stories in wrestling games are absolutely horrendous. NXT mode or career mode or whatever it is called is a completely unplayable chore. At least the historical modes have cool video packages and don't take a ridiculous amount of time. Not to mention that it directly results in us getting some really cool roster members that we wouldn't otherwise get, like D-Lo or The One Billy Gunn.

Heck those all might have been in the same game. Plus with the Showcase stuff we get people in the game that wouldn't otherwise get the chance to be in. I'll take replaying old matches that happened in real life if it means I get random characters like Haku and Mikey Whipwreck.

There's always gonna be people who want historical stories to replay through video games, and there's people who want original stories. I personally love Showcase Mode because of the people we get with it. I loved the HBK vs. HHH showcase in 2K15 because of all the Ruthless Aggression era arenas and wrestler we got. This year's was very good as well. I mean who would have thought in a million years that we would have gotten Mikey Whipwreck in a current WWE video game? I hope next year's Showcase does the same. I doubt it will happen because I can only think of a couple of wrestlers they can do a whole Showcase on. Hopefully they go the route they went last year and having over 120 wrestlers in this game again. They should transfer over the DLC guys, the showcase guys in the roster from 2K16, virtually every wrestler who's currently on the roster, not including the recently released wrestlers (or Ryback), and the new Showcase guys. As for NXT, only the major guys should be in the game, including women, unless they plan on making a DLC pack involving the NXT divas. I honestly think the only way we'll see NXT women on the game is either through DLC or if they decide to add women into MyCareer Mode, which BTW, I think they should include some elements of the 24/7 Mode from SvR 2008. Let me put it in all caps before people start bashing me for wanting elements of 24/7 Mode in this game, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE RIDICULOUS STORYLINES FROM THE MODE!!!!!!!!! One part I liked about the mode was the calendar of being able to do something almost every day of the week. They should add something like that where they add events that would help you gain more popularity, train in the Performance Center, etc. I would love to see that in MyCareer.
I realize I went on a rant since my original post was about the Showcase Mode. Anyways, there's an audience for Showcase and there's audience of guys who just want the current guys. I hope whoever they pick for Showcase, it gives us great content and great unlockables. A couple of guys I can think of that they could easily do a Showcase on is guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, John Cena. These four guys have MANY years of content that they could add into the game. I would have put the Rock as well, but he really had a few years compared to those four, and basically we would be getting almost the same thing we got with Austin. At least with the other four, we can different eras of wrestling. Sure, HBK, Bret, Taker would also include the Attitude Era, which was mainly what was included on Austin's showcase, but they could add the New Generation era, the Ruthless Aggression era, etc. Looking forward to the news we get.

I mean I see both sides to the arguments, as cool as historical matches are and how fun they are to play, they're easily accessible on the network/internet for us to watch, Candice turning you into a girl, Matt Hardy tricking you into having the number 7 instead of number 27 in the rumble, face 14 Druids in a battle royal, collecting souls, aren't there, and for some, that's what makes Video Games fun, being able to do something that you don't see in real life. If they made a crazy, but fun and playable story, would be incredible.
I always thought a Road to Wrestlemania mode mixed with Universe Mode would be insanely fun, I don't see it happening, but it'd be cool. Like a season mode where you can choose to play as one person or everyone.

I personally don't care for the historical modes or the career modes, but I wouldn't be so ignorant as to call them bad, especially when people are clearly requesting them.
