Religion is how people found answers when science couldn't
Now we have science
So idk why religion is basically the same it was before the sci. Revolution

i think something pretty profound is going on around us, however if there's any omega level entities responsible or overlooking us...not too sure on that one.

I think it's kind of silly to live your life thinking that you're going to exist on some other plane of existence after you go. With no evidence to support it, you're hinging hope on an idea that stems from one in a set of millions upon millions of possible outcomes throughout history.

I was raised to believe in God, and I do. I accept Jesus as his son and my lord and savior. I commit sins daily and many of my ways would be considered wicked. In this day and time especially, it's hard to have these beliefs and not get ridiculed or made fun of etc, etc. And all that's okay. I don't understand God's ways and the bible says I'm not supposed to. So I go with that. I believe what I believe and I'm okay with it. I believe in heaven and hell. And I believe that I will go to heaven when I die. I'm not afraid to say it.

I dont believe in heaven, hell or any god.
I feel like when we die, we die.
If there were either or, id say say heaven and hell would be catered differently to each person.
Whats heaven to some, may be hell to others.

We spend minutes, hours, days on social media ridiculing people because they're "not good people" yet in turn ridicule others for believing in religion as the majority use it to *gasp* try to make themselves a better person! It amazes me that those that are always whining for acceptance & tolerance are the exact ones that do not exemplify it.

I've seen things in life I can't explain through modern scientific "fact". Seen enough of them to know that there's something going on in life and death that we don't have the ability, desire, or need to understand completely. At least not yet. There's a lot about this world (and I'd imagine other worlds out there in the universe) that simply can't be explained with the scientific knowledge or religious faith we have. And it's not really meant to be understood by us lowly humans. At least not yet. Maybe someday in the distant future we will. That is, assuming we don't destroy ourselves or our planet beforehand.

I think Stephen Fry had the best reaction to the idea of god and heaven and hell I've ever seen. It amazes me that those that are always whining for acceptance & tolerance are the exact ones that do not exemplify it. I sincerely hope that good religious people aren't only good because they feel they have to be so they won't go to hell. In fact, the bible is a pretty horrible place to get your morals from.

It's become a cool trend to knock someone with beliefs.
Or at least, it's become cool to knock people who believe in God.

I sincerely hope that good religious people aren't only good because they feel they have to be so they won't go to hell. In fact, the bible is a pretty horrible place to get your morals from. Thats not what I said. There are many people that take the Bible as guidance to being a better person. Not necessarily heaven or hell but to just be in a "better place" within themselves. Countless number of people go through hard times and turn to the Bible and/or religion to help them through it. I see absolutely no problem with that and its asinine to ridicule people for it. We'll laugh, make fun of and ridicule a man for going to church, reading the Bible & praying but we dont know all those things help him through the day because his wife just left him for another man and he's not going to come home to his kids anymore. Yet the alternative for that man could be heavy drinking, drug use or even suicide and then we say "well nobody was there to help him"....someone, something was. Whether you believe or not is up to you but dont ridicule people for their beliefs if it betters them. Back when gay marriage was being legalized the saying was "if you dont want gay marriage then dont get one"...simple put, if you dont believe in religion then dont go to church. Nobody is forcing you. And yes there are some people that would ask you if you believe or go to church and if you say no or no thank you or whatnot, they will usually just leave you alone. Its people that are like "Fuk you dude, I dont want your magical sky daddy" that get the most push back from Christians trying to spread their faith because you acted like a complete tool. Which leads me to one last point. If you're athiest then by all means be athiest. I dont care but stop and think about something for a moment. As an athiest, why do you spend so much time trying to disprove something that you dont even believe in? I mean if I went on and on and on and on about how 6 legged purple elephants dont exist because I dont believe in them, Id be locked up in an asylum.

I've been trying to disprove God since i was about 12. (I'm almost 38) About three years ago I pretty much found all the answers I have been searching for since I firmly believed in God when I was a child.
I now know not to try and take ones religion from them.

I don't know where some of this is coming from, as I've not knocked anyone here for their beliefs. You, and everyone else is entitled to believe what you want to believe. I think you're wrong, you think I'm wrong. That's fine. As long as its contained to the individual. As an athiest, I wouldn't even consider trying to disprove something like a higher power. Because it cannot be done. However your 6 legged purple elephant has basically as much true evidence supporting its existence as an actual god does. But, you can't act as if this isn't an important issue when there are members of the christian faith who have influence over the education of children, and are purposely withholding completely true facts (IE Evolution) from them because it contradicts their faith. There are an astounding number of people who believe that the universe is only 6,000 years old. Many of those people are teaching this to children in schools, while omitting the truth. Hell, I was one of those children. That's when I take issue with it. As an aside, you twisted my words in the previous comment.

There's no way to disprove God and quite frankly the burden of proof (if you wanna go that route) lies with those who believe in God, not the other way round. Since proving God exists is just as impossible as proving he doesn't this whole debate is unneccessary.

Since proving God exists is just as impossible as proving he doesn't this whole debate is unneccessary. This quote is perfectly applicable: “In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.” ― Sam Harris

When we die it's just nothing. It's like going to sleep and then not waking up. You won't know it, you won't feel anything ever again. We just disappear.

Not surprising since Sam Harris is a genius.

Before i start this i will say Ive been a firm believer in God and Jesus since a young kid and i have had no reason to stop believing and quite frankly never will...With that being said Everyone wants equality but why is it that People feel free to attack people who believe in God just because you dont agree with them? O its silly to believe in God? Well guess what i dont agree with a lot of people but guess what you would never know because im going to treat you with respect so please do the same...Seriously come on people everyone just looks for a chance to attack each other....Cant people realize to get a long with each other...I don't care if your gay, straight, black, white, Muslim, Christian, Atheist or if your not even sure what you believe in...Im going to treat you like you deserve to be treated...and then people need to realize that if everyone just worked a little bit harder to get a long this world would be a whole lot of a better place....so just because you dont believe in what other people believe in Just be a decent human being and life will be easier
