I've always assumed it was out of fear. His character was forced into a submission match with Chris Masters and Regal wasn't a huge deal yet so the STF worked. If you haven't seen him use it the first time, do watch. He had it perfect. So perfect it almost caused Masters to legit pass out. However, the move stuck; but he loosened up tremendously after the Masters disaster and hasn't changed since. Regal wasn't a huge deal yet... pfffft!!! The matches with Finlay in wcw where they were killing each other say hello! Just being an ass.... I know what ya mean.

I guess making a guy nearly pass out would make him worried but why hasn't he been taught how to do it properly or given a move he feels more comfortable using.
I personally don't mind it no one taps to it anymore anyways, but even a few of my friends said when we watched the PPV that the move looked really loose. Imo je should change it to a cross face with the leg bit to make it look more realistic

Because everyone knows Vince loves them loose and sloppy.

Cena has never been known for his technical mastery.

I've always dreamt of Regal walking down while Cena has someone in it. Throwing Cena off to the side, then showing him how it's done. That would be the best of all time.

Yeah he isn't that good a technical wrestler.
His rope stunner shows that too.

Cena has never been known for his technical mastery. He's no where near as bad as the IWC has decided he is since he isn't having dream matches every RAW with the US Championship like last year.

Lol, I'm no Cena fan, but I won't say he's not a good pro wrestler. He's churned out some great matches in his career but he's never been known to be a great technician but not that many guys really are. You're right though, last year about this time Cena had so much praise on the net. Then once he went out with injury it was mostly gone

Yepp this has frustrated me for years. However, there have been a select amount of times I've seen him lock it in and make it look real.

Edge has stated in an interview that Cena made him pass out once. Ever since then, Cena has used a looser hold to make sure that does not happen.
