It's an insurance thing and as far as I understand it, it's pretty standard practice. Here is my (admittedly limited) legal understand of cases like this:


Point #1 ECW as a company was bought by WWE, so for all intents and purposes ECW=WWE. We know that ECW essentially died, but in a business sense they did not, they simply were rolled into a new company, therefore all litigation against ECW stands to be against the owners of ECW(WWE).

Point 2 is for how insurance payouts work in regards to lawsuits. Often when we see lawsuits for medical costs seemingly every entity involved is named, this is apparently for a reason. Take Tracy Morgan, he was involved in a horrendous car accident in which a Walmart truck crashed into his van. Morgan then went on to sue Walmart, you might be saying, well Walmart wasn't driving the truck, that's not really fair, that's true, however companies like Walmart are insured for instances like this and if a person is hoping to collect on medical costs it's ultimately the only route as Joe Schmoe truck driver surely does not have the money. The second component is that often the company's will wish to settle and payout but for purpose of preventing multiple actual frivolous lawsuits from those without substantial claim they will drag the case out somewhat to prevent people from trying to cash in easy.

I don't know the true specifics of this case but just remember a lot of legal cases seem frivolous simply because we are never offered the full side to the story, companies are PR machines with teams of lawyers, they can make even the most legitimate claims look absurd to help their case. Take for instance the infamous McDonald's hot coffee case, regularly cited as a frivolous lawsuit but in reality it was a legitimate claim as the woman suffered serious burns and was originally only looking to recoup medical costs. McDonald's settles with the caveat of a gag order on her end and then ran a massive PR campaign smearing the claim.

I am fine with figures from the 80's being released, I just don't collect do to the fact I didn't grow up in that era.

basically you can take all of those names and remove them from further "will we get ________ as a flashback" questions for the rest of mattel's contract and beyond
