Hey guys,
So here is the deal. I am a frequent poster in the NHL Thread on the Sports Hub - as I know many of you are as well - and there was a small conversation that happened just tonight that I almost didn't understand myself, because in my opinion, it is just part of being a Canadian hockey fan. (Which is basically like saying 'being a Canadian').
So this is the 'debate' between 'Henrik Zetterberg' and myself. I will quote it, as it is the best way to understand the discussion.
Jump onboard, there's plenty of room. Tonight's game is going to be fun. I hope to see Bertuzzi get bitchsmacked a few times. I think I might actually be going to tonight's game. I missed the last game, but don't want to miss this one. My Dad has season tickets with a friend of his, but his friend might not be able to go, in which case the ticket goes to me. Whoo!
If I don't go to tonight's game, I'm going to the Wild/Vancouver game later in the month.
Don't worry! I'll only jump on the bandwagon if the Oilers, and every other Canadian team are knocked out of the playoffs!
Oilers are going to thrash the Stars tonight! woO!
I love the Oilers too man, but cheering for Vancouver or Calgary is gross...
I'm Canadian. What can I say?

Celine Dione is Canadian.

Yeah. I'm American but I don't cheer for the Flyers, Predators, Islanders, Rangers, Bruins, etc.
Not really. Location shouldn't necesarily dictate who you cheer for, in my opinion at least.

I can kinda see where he is coming from. It's not usual when a Canadian team does well in the playoffs, aside from the Leafs or Sens, who usually lose anyway. Canadians want a Canadian team as a Stanley Cup winner.
But that won't happen this year.

Just bringing the Cup 'back' to Canada. Even though there were more Canadians playing for the Lightning than the Flames, there were a lot of people cheering for the Flames, because they are a Canadian team.
Maybe Canadians understand the 'dynamic'.
So no bloodbath in this discussion, but hopefully you get the point from what I just copied and pasted above. (Here is the original thread if you want to contribute - wfigs.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=sports&action=display&thread=1128485236&page=15
So what do you guys think? As you can see, I almost didn't know how to argue there, because cheering for a Canadian team - even if the players are not Canadian - is just a natural thing.
What do you think?
Cheers gentlemen!

Oh, I understand the Canadian thing perfectly but I still don't get how someone can actually like the Flames or Canucks. They just aren't fun to watch, in my opinion. But then again I like a team thats made up of largely senior citizens...So no bloodbath in this discussion, but hopefully you get the point from what I just copied and pasted above.
