Even though one of you turd blossoms spoiled the entire film, I watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Seems like Star Wars fans hate Star Wars the most. The movie was good but to read about petitions to have it stricken from canon is beyond absurd.

It was a good movie, everyone just says things suck because as deskjet said everyone is freaking negative. It is "cool" to hate stuff. People saying raped us our childhood is freaking stupid. It was a good Star Wars film. I can't wait for solo and I enjoyed rogue one. To give you an idea about my fandom I live and breathe seat wars and GI Joe. Every pair of socks and underwear I have has Star Wars on it. People just need to stop being whiney. I can honestly say attack of the clones sucks but the last twenty minutes makes up for it. I don't think the story sucks as much as Hayden and Portman have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. TLJ was awesome, Leia used the force! Finally, yeah it was cheesy and her "death" was perfect as it was, powerful and sudden and unexpected ..like in real life. I would have been fine with that. The only scene I thought was horrible and didn't need was the milk scene. Was that supposed to show us where Star Wars milk came from? Entertaining movie, fun and the most important part my kids loved it.

I agree. It was the perfect way to end her story.

When everyone thought she died in the movie....where her story should have been done. Got a bit choked up at that scene but at the end when Luke says to her that no one is ever really gone...I completely lost it. Just a beautifully placed moment in light of what happened. First time I ever cried in a Star Wars movie, except the time jar jar showed up lol j/k. This movie made me feel so many different emotions throughout...it was just an incredibly entertaining experience, that I've seen twice now:)

I thought Finn was a goner, and as I was coming to terms with that he was saved. I thought Kylo had gone good and then ... nope. I was like what the heck just happened when they offed Snoke. Thought Leia was dead. Thought Luke got sliced in half. Kept thinking DJ was going to be revealed as fett. Felt sad when my son was upset that Akbar had died, he was more upset over that than Leia, lol.

I think a people are so pissed because they had all these theories about Snoke and Rey, just to be squashed. I personally was most upset by akbar kind of dying off screen. I’m sure they will do the right thing and the next movie will take place several years later, with Leia passing within that time.

I think JJ is gonna be forced to go in a similar direction. I hope he does. We've has two trilogies of the same storyline. It's time to move on...as the last jedi so cleverly echoed throughout the movie. I don't own a blue ray, but this movie is seriously making me contemplate getting one for all the deleted scenes. Just purchased the Visual dictionary which does a nice job filling in some gaps too. Maybe its just me but I love this kinda stuff..figuring crap out, lol!

I hate that anyone who calls this pile of s*** out for what it is is a “negative fanboy.” I’ve been watching movies my whole life. Why can’t I dislike a movie simply because it’s bad. Cool if you like it. I, and many others hated it.
Spoilers below but I’ll list some of the biggest issues I had with it...
- Luke’s arc was ruined - He turned the 2nd most evil man in the galaxy back to the light side. He was tempted multiple times by the dark side in the OT yet overcame it every time...so I’m suppose to believe that he simply gives up when he sensed Ben turned? WTF is that. Did Rian Johnson never watch the OT? If anything Luke would have continued to work to turn Ben back. They shat on all the growth Luke made during the OT. Instead of seeing the greatest Jedi of all time, we got to see an old man milk a space cow.
- Pointless side stories - What was the point of Finn and Rose looking for the codebreaker? They find one, get onto the dreadnaught, yet in the end don’t even turn off the friggin light speed tracker? You’re telling me we sat through pointless scenes of them running through casinos and racing on horse/sheep creatures to get no payoff what so ever (and the casino was the most out of place scene in Star Wars since the 50s diner in AOTC)?
- Rose - The most pointless character in Star Wars history. Jar Jar, while a terrible character, played into the plot of TPM. What point did Rose serve in this movie, because it certainly didn’t have anything to do with the story. Was she there for Disney to hit the race box? Was she there to continue the “women are great/men stink” narrative Johnson pushed (which was already being pushed down our throats with Poe and purple haired chick)? She served no purpose what so ever.
- Unlikeable characters - I already mentioned Rose and Luke. We never saw purple haired chick before, and she came off as an idiot for refusing to tell anyone her plan (which would have saved use from the Finn/Rose adventure). Then she’s all good and mentioned how Leia trained her, so I guess this was suppose to be enough backstory for us to give a crap for when she sacrificed herself. Poe came off as a quick trigger and idiot who couldn’t grasp how many ships he lost. Rey continued being a “Mary Sue,” even beating Luke in a fight.
- The OT means nothing - all the deaths. All the sacrifices. All the “wins” our hero’s had in the OT meant nothing. Porkins, Dax and the other rebels who died for the cause meant nothing. The galaxy is in worse shape now than it was under Palpatine.
- The republic was apparently only 5 planets...WTF? After 30 years the new republic only joined 5 planets? In the PT we saw thousands of planets apart of the senate. Apparently blowing up 5 planets killed the whole new republic and they literally have 20 people left.
- Leia is now apparently superman - this got laughs and groans in my theater.
- Storylines dropped from TFA - Rey’s parents turned out to be nobodies after JJ purposely made them a big plot point for Rey in TFA. Snoke was said to be the most powerful being ever, yet couldn’t sense the lightsaber right next to him moving?
The visuals in this movie were great. But that’s about it. The story sucked. Too many plot holes and they literally shat on the established lore.

Rose is there to give Finn a love interest to further his story with Rey. You can see a hint of jealous when she see them together. This was just her introduction. Do people expect every character to do something huge?

Only 3 million less than the force awakens. The holiday weekend definitely had a lot to do with it too

But.. you know that this is the day and age where you can't dislike something and have your own opinion about it without pissing someone off. And by someone, I mean the few who always get pissy when someone posts something they dislike/disagree with.

Nobody has been able to answer the Laura Dern plot hole. Why didn’t she just tell Poe the plan? The answer is simple, because if she does, then Finn, Rose and, to a lesser degree, Poe, have no subplot as they sit on a ship running out of gas (a plot device they stole from Battlestar Galactica where it was done infinitely better, mind you).
I agree that it felt like Johnson had never read a previous Star Wars script, but The Force Awakens in-particular. He had to of at least seen the OT, because he stole from Empire and Jedi pretty frequently throughout the story. I don’t understand the people who liked this, who hated TFA, who are not calling this out for the copycat scenery and plot themes that happen throughout the film.
I saw it a second time on Christmas Eve. The comedy was definitely softened the second time. I thought the Yoda scene was much better than on the original viewing, that being the dialogue. I still have a problem with him using Force Lightning. Why wouldn’t he use that against the First Order at will? Regardless, that scene was largely saved for me on a second viewing, which was a big deal because I’m a massive Yoda fan.
The Canto Bight scene was worse for me though on a second viewing, more so visually than anything else. I paid more attention to the set design and man does that scene feel like it’s right out of the prequels. Forget why Rose and Finn are there, which is obviously an issue that’s been addressed, but I don’t know how you can get over the cgi, especially since JJ did such a great job with practical effects and set pieces in TFA.
JJ worked with Lawrence Kasdan on TFA. Johnson needed Kasdan here and didn’t use him. I think TLJ is easily the most poorly written of the 8 films. That’s the part that really has me miffed because Looper and Brick are extremely well written scripts. It’s almost like Johnson was disinterested in picking up someone else’s work and building on the previous installment. He just wanted to do his own thing, which begs the question of why he took this particular job. Maybe he just wanted to get the green light on his own (original concept) Trilogy, but I have to believe that’s in-doubt now based on the backlash for this film.
We’ll see how JJ handles 9. He can retcon Snoke and Rey’s parents very easily. I think he will. He obviously had ideas for both in 7. We’ll see Force Ghost Luke. So I do think they can salvage the story as long as they’re willing to acknowledge the problems from 8 head on. I expect 9 will end up being more of a “safe” film but as long as there isn’t a Death Star I think they’ll be fine.
It’s still tracking at a domestic drop off of 40% from Episode 7 when this thing is all said and done, despite some unforeseen upswing in interest in the next two weeks. I would guess Disney views that as a pretty big disappointment. I don’t think that’s either here nor there because JJ is coming back regardless.
