After the success of a previous thread I made called "What if Diesel and Razor Ramon never jumped ship", Here's a new topic to discuss.
What if Shockmaster never fell down? Personally I doubt he'd really have gotten anywhere, but considering how WCW was trying to emulate WWF's cartoon like characters and how WCW often made former WWF superstarts larger successes, it's possible he'd have gotten some kind of a push. I doubt like a main event WCW Championship run, but maybe a mid card staple who'd have a dance with the US or TV championships considering they gave a US reign to Hacksaw Jim Duggan got both of them. Or a bit more likely it would last just as long considering The Yeti and The Dungeon of Doom didn't last very long. In the modern day i doubt he'd be remembered as much. Maybe looked upon and laughed at, but not as infamous as he is now.
Leave your replies and tell me what your opinions are, Thanks!

He would have floundered around for a month or two and disappeared.

I don't see "Uncle Fred" doing much even if the Shockmaster thing was a success at that Clash of the Champions.
Fred still would have had to wrestle without the helmet on (at least I would think) and everyone would know it was Tugboat/Typhoon from the old WWF.
I don't even believe his contract was that long. I remember he was in the WWF again in the summer of 1994 as Typhoon, feuding with Yokozuna after Earthquake up and left again.

I don't think there were ever any big plans or high hopes for him even if things went according to plan that night. He most likely would not have been used much more significantly than it actually turned out. Strangely enough, falling down may have been the best thing that happened to Ottman. That run would have probably been forgettable to say the least. Its ended up giving him wrestling immortality now. Even if its not the way most would necessarily beg for. Lol

this is like asking what if the yeti didn't hump the giant. they'd just be even MORE irrelevant to wrestling's major history.

Yeah......I cant see much having happened. I doubt the dude in the spraypainted helmet would have pushed WCW to the level where it was competition for WWF.

They tried repackaging him as Uncle Fred & the Super ShockMaster. Both were about as well-liked as a wet fart in white pants.

The Shockmaster Incident caused Eric Bischoff to lose trust and faith in Dusty Rhodes. Ever wondered why Dusty Rhodes was saddled as a commentator, this is the incident that caused it.

He would have floundered around for a month or two and disappeared. Pretty much. A gimmick like that was never destined to be anything spectacular.

He still would have been a failure

In hindsight, falling was the best thing that could've possibly happened to The Shockmaster. It's made him a bigger star than he ever could've possibly been had he not fallen. The fact that people are still talking about it to this day is a testament to that. If he hadn't, the entire gimmick would've been completely forgotten in a matter of weeks or months. There certainly wouldn't be a Shockmaster figure complete with special carding.

WCW wasn't a kind place for big guys to be in the early-to-mid-90s. There were a few exceptions like Vader and Sid, but WCW never found its footing back then when it came to creating larger-than-life cartoon personas. It was still mainly a company run by old school guys with old school styles. I have a feeling that Shockmaster would have made a few TV appearances, been met met with similar confusion as the likes of Lazer Tron, and been discarded for something new.

If he hadn't fallen when he did, then he would have just fallen in the ring in his first match.
Just think: his mask fell off just from him falling over. What the hell was going to happen the first time he took a bump? The EXACT same thing.

Whenever I hear the name Shockmaster outside of a wrestling context, I think of a quick, Rey Mysterio like wrestler. Not a lumbering big man with a bearhug finisher. Sorry, but he wasn't going to amount to anything. The only fame he would have had is if he debuted during the Dungeon of Doom era and attacked Hogan. It's amazing he even main evented a PPV.

What the hell was going to happen the first time he took a bump? The EXACT same thing. In fairness I don't think the helmet falling off was the issue as I doubt he would have worn it in the match. And if he did I doubt he would have taken a bump. The issues was him telling and falling through the wall instead of busting through it. I mean it certainly didn't help that he lost the hemet and had to fumble around for it. But even if he had a mask on under the hemet there was no recovery for that gimmick. The character was dead in the water as soon as he tripped. And the final nail in the coffin was hearing Davey Boy laughing and saying "He fell" off camera.

It was too crappy of a character to ever work, even if he hadn't tripped. Think about it - fat storm trooper in jeans wearing a sleeveless robe. P. N. News had more credibility as a character. I mean, what was he supposed to be? What was his characterization and motivation?

Davey Boy saying "He fell on his ass, he fell flat on his in ass" is legit my favorite part of the segment lol. Davey gave no s back then.
