So Im not a MMA or Boxing guy, but why is it that fights go to decision? Why dont they go into overtime? To me a fight ends in KO or submission. Not arbitrary points. Seems like more of a game protecting these guys than a real fight. I dont wanna sound completely heartless, but if these guys wanna be some sort of modern day gladiator, why does theyre mental or physical well being matter? Two dudes wanna punch each other in the head? Why does it have to end because time ran out?
Just curious. Theres an assumed risk with everything, but this seems like they only care about peoples lifes because if they die they cant book them to fight anymore.
Someone help me if im completely off base.

In theory, a fight to the finish sounds great - but in practice, it wouldn't really work. A lot of it's down to timing issues and the number of fights on a card... if every fight were to go on until a natural finish (KO/sub), the card could go for days(!). And if a fight's pretty dull - and just goes on and on and on... it's not really ideal and a lot of people would probably tune-out. Yeah, that was from the recent press conference... definitely worth checking out!

It also has to do with sanctions from the athletic commission; mixed martial arts is a sport and has to be regulated, hence why there are strict rules adhering to the rulings made by the commission.

Im taking a nap as soon as i get home. Im waking up at 10 (dont have FXX to watch the prelims), and watch the card. My picks are Jimi Manuwa, Donald Cerrone, Cyborg, Demian Maia, and Daniel Cormier

Awesome brawl. I though Cowboy took it but they gave it to Robbie. Fun fight either way.

Loved Cerrone vs Lawler. Im disappointed Cerrone lost, but i like Lawler almost as much as i like Cerrone, so i was happy either way

I liked that Cyborg won. It was expected, but what i did not expect was for Tonya Evinger to put up the fight she did. Oh, and f*** Germaine for not wanting to fight Cyborg lol

Oh, and f*** Germaine for not wanting to fight Cyborg lol Loved that the commentary team buried her. She deserved it. What a punk.
