So I've been thinking for a while now about how I'd love to get the 4-6 hours of my life that meal prepping takes back. I've checked out a few different pre-made, high protein low-fat meal services and they all seem expensive which I guess is to be expected. I have a base calorie intake of 2000 per day and Usually hit about 2250 to 2500 (although I should probably be up around 3000). The calories listed for most of these seem awfully low for how much they're going to cost.
10 'double protein' meals from one place is decent at 100 bucks, but leaves me with possible difficulty in eating breakfast (maybe no problem, I eat oatmeal and yogurt and could throw in some eggs every day and feel like I'm not breaking the bank, plus I pepper my diet with fruit and bars/shakes) and the worry that I am going to be, quite frankly, f*cking starving all the time. My natural metabolism is absurdly high. I'm not expecting to be absolutely shredded but I workout pretty regularly to be in halfway decent ring shape and am trying to take it to the next level. I feel like this could help.
This also leaves the weekends mostly up for grabs though which is another difficulty I've always dealt with.
Anyone have any experience with this/know low cost ways of keeping it going?

Interesting, never thought about looking somewhere local. Can't imagine I'm going to find anything cheaper than online in Boston, but I could be wrong. How many calories you take in a day?

When I lived in Houston they had a few meal prep stores that had coolers with prepared meals. They were great, but could get really expensive. Most meals were $8-12. It was great for saving time.
I know that Whole Foods and several supermarkets have a healthy prepared meal section as well.

Never done a outside food prep service, but it seems like a good idea if youre strapped with time and hate cooking.
I have individual tupperware like containers that i use.
I make my meals for the week every sunday night and put them in labeled containers. Usually grill chicken, tofu, asparagus, kimchi ect.
Works out good, as it makes me limit my food intake.

Interesting, never thought about looking somewhere local. Can't imagine I'm going to find anything cheaper than online in Boston, but I could be wrong. How many calories you take in a day? 1,800 +/-, centered around cutting weight. I usually look up recipes and get their caloric count and factor all that in and just keep tabs with the MyFitnessPal app. Keeps me busy so its harder to fall off the rails. I'd also recommend checking out EatThisMuch ( eatthismuch.com) to get an idea calorie wise and a weekly shopping list. It wasn't bad, worth at least a trial, but at the time I used it I couldn't customize it to exactly how I wanted to, but I haven't revisited it. You can customize it to the type of diet you want (vegan, atkins, paleo, etc.), amount of calories you want to intake, and your carb/fat/protein goals. I started with this and the Fitpacker containers I mentioned above and then once I got used to it I just went off on my own tangent. Edit: Adding Macro calculator - macronutrientcalculator.com/

scrambled eggs and taco meat is my go to. Eggs are much better for you and lower calories than beans. Chicken or beef taco meat with scrambled eggs, then your choice of hot sauce. I also drink a lot of protein shakes and creatin shakes though.

As far as meal prep is concerned, try to look when certain items go on sale in your local supermarket. Stock up as much as you can/want and plan accordingly. I know there are already made meals but some usually aren't good for you. It is best to invest a day and prep as much meals as possible. I can't offer anymore advice because everybody preps their way.

Turkey taco meat is essentially what I live off of already. Never thrown eggs into it, though...I like eggs but usually just for breakfast or getting them down Rocky style. I also do a protein/creatine shake a day. I think I just don't even want to spend the time cooking that stuff anymore haha. But it's tough, obviously. If I end up with a 'late' Sunday I'm doing this stuff until 10 pm, plus I slow cook chicken to eat for lunch during the week and usually just put that on over night. That also takes forever and then will screw me up in the morning as I'm cleaning up/dealing with it.
Life, man, life!

-- Stir Fry works wonders!! Low sodium non-MSG sauce, chicken, carrots, broccoli, low-fat wheat low-main noodles. Cook up a wok full and you're good for lunches or dinners for a good week. Salads for more greens. Natural peanut butter w/ chocolate protein powder mixed, on a wheat toast for a snack in between meals. Water and green tea to wash it all down.
Breakfast, I just have coffee and a Lenny/Larry's vegan protein cookie. Or 6 egg whites w/ natural hot sauce. Night time, water based fruits (my fav is cantaloupe).
Prep most of that, and you're as good as gold!

oOoOOo good call on stir fry. I've never really thought to even go for that. I went back to ground turkey this week, didn't pull the trigger on those expensive places. That's a great idea, though. I could definitely bounce between that and turkey. I think I just need to suck it up and be ready to cook, that's all. Ugh, but the thought of it, haha
