I agree with theoutlaw1999 that WCW had started to turn the corner in late 2000, early 2001. I think they had come full circle and were kinda back to where they were in around '91 and '92 when they were getting used to booking without everything centering on the Horsemen. 2001 really felt like a company in transition, not with some crappy Russo angle that flipped everything on its head in one show, but more gradual and meaningful transition. I have no idea what angles would have followed, but I think they just needed to keep doing what they were doing in 2001. Focus on delivering the superior in-ring product, just as WCW always had. Then, they needed solid booking that showed respect to the fans. Many of us were tired of feeling like we were constantly being crapped on with reboots, angles that went nowhere, constant face-heel turns and just Russo shenanigans in general. From there, I think time and adding some new faces to get people interested in checking the product out again might have helped bring back the audience. As a side-note, Nitro's TV ratings in 2001 were comparable with Raw's in 1995 and 1996, and not that much less than Raw today, so it's not like no one was watching.

Overall I miss WCW. A lot of people criticize their final years but it's still way better than anything going on today with WWE. And oh yeah Mark Madden>Corey Graves. Being from Pittsburgh and a Mark Madden radio fan, I couldn't stomach him as a commentator. Hell I like the guy and I find myself hating him on the radio because of how much of a mark he is. I get that is part of him gimmick, but he is overbearing. One the guy obviously understands and has worked in the business, but he constantly runs downs people more prominent and better than him. Not to mention he is just a disgusting slob, so anytime he talks crap on women or guys athletic ability I tend to roll my eyes.

If WCW had continued, it would've been under Bischoff's ownership. Ted Turner lost much of his control when the AOL merger started and by the end, he had no swagger left. Bischoff had put together a deal to buy WCW and already had plans to shut it down for a few months so it could be rebranded and reinvigorated since fans would never give it a chance if it stuck around and tried to change incrementally. Had WCW continued on, I think they probably would've tried to go back to what made it popular i.e. realism in stories and characters. WCW basically had a couple of great years before corporate shackles started coming on and limiting what they were and weren't allowed to do (this is the reason why there was never a reciprocal "invasion" at WWE HQ to counter DX).

I was just starting to like you and then you pulled that Mark Madden junk. A wet, stinky fart inside of a sauna filled with 3 year old mayonnaise underneath a hobos armpit is a million times better than anything Mark Madden has done. I still like you. it.

They'd be where TNA is now by around 2005. A mess.

I have a feeling that it would look a lot like what TNA was originally like in 2002. I do think that Booker T would have ended up jumping ship to the WWE eventually. But as for guys like Nash, Goldberg, Sting, Hennig, Steiner, they all would have stayed with WCW for those big money contracts. I think possibly Lance Storm would have went to the WWE when his WCW contract expired. But Rey, Kidman, Chavo etc. would have stayed with WCW. Hogan would most likely come back to WCW as well.
Uh, not after Bash at the beach 2000.

Nice thread. Would be cool to see how things would have turned out. I'd love one day for one of the WWE games to have a showcase/story mode where the Monday Night War is reversed and WCW won. I think that would be cool to play as like Stone Cold and Rock, entering WCW as the enemy and feuding with the NWO on there turf and so on.
I imagine the cruiserweight division would have gone on to new levels. WCW's problem was promoting the next generation though really. Too much focus on the "names" of wrestling. Mad to think they had a young AJ Styles ready to start his career as well.

Looking at how good TNA was in the 00's if it had never existed and WCW continued all of the TNA stars could've ended up there which could've done WCW wonders.

Mayhem 2 on ps2. Mayhem on ps1 was a decent enough games, second to revenge. So a new gen wcw game would have been sick! Largely the invasion wouldn't have happened and WWF/the industry/the talent involved would have been far better off without that booking. Wcw wise I'd have loved more of whatever they're doing, but no batcrapideas like they largely had. I'd reckon the TNA talent would have been showcased on wcw and revitalised wcw after the nwo rinsing their contracts for their betterment.

If they got rid of Russo I could see Hogan returning.

My main thought is what WWE would've looked like. There would've been no brand split and you have to wonder where the new RA guys like Cena, Orton and Lesnar would've went. As for WCW I may be in the minority but I thought by the end of 2000 it started to improve so we may have be robbed of good times. To be fair Cena, Orton, and Lesnar were all under contract when WCW closed I believed. So they would be in WWE for the time being. Now after their contracts were up they may have jumped ship.

There is no doubt that Brock would've jumped. He would've stayed in WWE for 1 year and once he became a huge drawing star WCW would've been gagging for him and we all know that Brock would follow the money.

Seeing The shape TNA is in right now, I have a pretty good idea on how It would look.

You can love WCW but nobody in modern day can sink as low as those final years of WCW. My biggest hope was for WWE to reboot WCW after the Invasion, but no luck.
