Now I am a moc collector & personally for me, I think of the package as part of the figure but I see on here that a lot of guys like to open them up & display loose which is also cool, I know it's a matter of personal preference & to each his own but doesn't that degrade the value MAJORLY if you ever decided to sell it?? Some people will buy 2 of the same figure so one can be moc & one loose but I just can't see that logic unless you're an adult who collects moc & you have children that wanna play with them so you buy another for them to open. Idk, there's just something about a figure that's loose that makes it lose its appeal to me, doesn't matter who it's of. 💩

I personally do not care what the figure may or may not be worth down the road. I like displaying loose because I think it looks better. Loose also gives you much more freedom. You can part swap, display with accessories included in package but not on the figure, display with accessories from other figures, customize/fix up to your liking, etc. Plus, MOC collecting takes up a lot more space.

I don't think anyone should be looking at WWE figures as some sort of long-term investment. Granted, I'm sure there's a possibility of making profit, but the idea of storing that much s**t over the course of several years while the line is running seems like a big inconvenience.
These days its a big enough strain on the wallet to collect any of these toys, so buying 2 is a crazy habit to me as well. Even if you're making good money for a living, it seems like such a financial drain. Oddly enough, I know of a guy who ended up losing his wife over being that sort of collector.
For me personally, I can't stand keeping them MOC. I tried it for awhile, and quickly became overwhelmed with how much space it all took it. If there's something significantly special or rare about the item then I don't mind leaving it MOC. That's also the one time I'll consider buying an extra to have loose, so long as the price is right. But if it's just a regular release, I don't want to take up even more space by leaving them in boxes. I display them, add accessories, throw in mods where I can, and just enjoy the hobby for what it is.
It may be short-sighted to not view any of this as a legitimate investment, but I have more fun treating collecting no differently than buying a car. I know I won't ever get back what I paid for the thing, but it'll serve its purpose for however long I decide to keep it.

Yeah long term investing is bad in this field. If you can keep up with the secondary market demand, and want to sell then cool. I buy these because I like them and if I had to sell them I wouldnt need much because I enjoyed them.
Also unless you live in a mansion then youre going to run out of space to display a large collection. Ive seen bookshelfs where the packages are stored like books to save space. Otherwise most of your collection will be "displayed" in plastic tubs in a closet...
Packaging can be cool, I keep certain figures and exclusives sealed, but some are much better served opened and displayed with accessories. Recently figures with cloth are packed without it on, or like Flair on, but open and exposes the flaws.
Another example would be the Ultimate Maniacs. Cool looking figures that go together, but one is a Defining Moments box, and the other is a regular elite box. That looks weird and bad together. Also DX. I have e23 HHH with e26&27 Outlaws, e34 Xpac, and WMXXX HBK...thats 4 different boxes, 3 different sizes, and only HBKs box is worth keeping IMO.
TL;DR save space, display by factions/eras with accessories ON, and only keep cool exclusive packaging, DMs, and favorite figures sealed.

I think loose is better. I hate people who think they can make money on MOC figures

I'm not a person who collects to sell later on & I'm not one of those who just has to have every "cool" figure that's released. Mine are moc but they don't take a lot of space because I buy very meticulously, meaning they've gotta be just certain wrestlers....old school NWA/WCW mostly.

I collect everything mint on card except for WWE figures simply due to lack of room. Also, its nice being able to buy mint loose figures from fellow collectors at a lower price. Or single figures you want from multi-packs. I store my WWE figures bagged, wrapped in bubble wrap and stacked in crates. I simply don't have the room for 200+ WWE figures mint in box.

I'm mostly a loose collector. Still some figures I buy 2. Usually just RSC exclusives, but I got 2 DM crow Stings and Razor Ramon figures... Prolly do the same with Nakamura. If they are on clearance or super cheap like E41 at Big Lots or $9.99 HOF at Target then I'll buy what I can.
The only thing I keep 100% MOC are Funko Pops and even then I barely get them, mostly exclusives. Still I like how they look and they are really easy to stack.
If a figure is worth my time to sell it, then it means that there is an even better figure(s) I want for my collection.

Counting down the time it takes someone to mention "plastic prisons" in the thread... Idk, there's just something about a figure that's loose that makes it lose its appeal to me, doesn't matter who it's of. 💩 I agree with most of this... I prefer the look of figures MOC too and the packaging is all part of the overall figure/product. I don't really think resale value should come into it though, unless you think you might be selling your collection somewhere down the road. You'll probably find that a lot of loose collectors won't understand how/why we MOC collectors prefer figures this way - but as you said, it's just a matter of personal preference and each to his own.

To me moc completes the figure. I love the look of moc figures it's just Randy Orton I collect so it's not like I'd make money you should collect for enjoyment not to make money Even if I was to stop being a orton fan I would not sell my collection as it means something to me but no need to worry about that as I'll never stop being a orton fan he's my idol for life

Acronym lesson:
MOC- Mint on Card (plastic bubble ON a piece of cardboard. Basics)
MIB- Mint in a box(elites).
MOMC-Mint on mint card
Drives me up a wall when I see a sea of "MOC MOC MOC MOC...." Sound like chickens.

If you wanna blow a few thousand dollars on something to make more money down the road as a long term investment, put your money in stocks not figures.

I used to be MOC but I figured paying all that money for boxes wasnt worth it to me so I open now to display. I do keep the elite boxes and cut the bubbles off the basics and keep the cards

So I started collecting again this past Summer and when I started, the plan was to go all MOC. Then I quickly saw the amount of space that would need to be dedicated to it. Plus, I was getting to the point where I really wanted to open them and display them. Basically what I do now is that I have some still MOC, but I figured to open them and enjoy them. I also collect guitars, original movie posters, and I suppose DVD/Bluray too. My investment collection is my guitars because they'll hold their value. Same with the movie posters. But to me the figures are kinda like the DVD/Bluray's as I would rather enjoy them. Otherwise, I can't justify the $$$ to just store stuff away. Plus as already mentioned in this thread, it also gives me another facet to my photography.

I don't buy with the intention of reselling later. For one thing, I know how speculative the market can be for collectibles from watching people go crazy buying comics in the 90s and eating a huge loss - or at least not making a single penny in profit. I display loose because it takes less space, you can pose the figures however you want, and you can make minor tweaks like a head or hand swap, move accessories around, all that kind of crap. Lastly, I have quite a few customs and fix-ups that I like to display right beside my factory figures but I do not have the time or desire to make custom boxes. It just makes more sense for me that loose is the way to go.

I think I am going to open most of my basics for some kind of display but am keeping my elites MOC unless I buy duplicates for cheap and open them.

I buy only elites that represent gimmicks in wwf/wcw from 1980's and 90's. Also I only want one attire of each unless it's macho man or sting. I have 2 collections though because this started as just loose toys for my son. I went back and bought some elites I missed and they were expensive and I couldn't bring myself to let my son have them to break or lose. So I kept them moc because they are personal favorite/iconic attires for me and that got my moc collection started. Now I have about 50 moc elites and my son has about 65 loose elites with mostly second attires that are not in my view the iconic attires. I have changed my mind about wanting some of my moc figs so I sold a few here and there and have made a good return every time

everything i buy i open
most of these figures don't hold much value anyways and the ones that do the loose ones still hold close to the same value.
