They're $20 figures (retail). How much detail do you expect? The same as hot toys, sideshow, or enterbay? Enjoy the figures for what they are. If you want every minute detail on a figure, go have a custom comissioned by someone with a 3d printer. Listen here Mr. Voice of reason. You may not have realized this but you have stumbled into this world we call Internet, where we complain and tear apart the things we love the most, from behind our keyboards. We will complain often, and loudly about even the smallest of gripes. We will break the spirits of the fine folks who try to make a living by trying to make us happy. And we will cry as loud as a message board will allow until we have made our hobby less fun for ourselves and for everyone else. Then we will go to WWE live events and boo the good guys for getting a "push" too soon. We will cheer the bad guys for their killer "work rate." And we will hashtag hijack raw because smarketty smarketty smark smark.

Those aren't examples of jakks at their worst. That Nash scan is better than any of the Mattel ones imo. You also posted a 3 pack that included a gorgeous fabric coat for taker that Mattel would charge a million dollars for.

Jakks is still overall garbage though.

I didn't jump on board until Mattel released their Rikishi figure. Jakks had made many mistakes but some of their figures are perfect. And not just some, but many were great buys. And the price for Mattel figures is just ridiculous. It has very little to do with inflation. There is no reason for a single Elite figure to cost $19.99. That is absurd.

The quality of Mattel figures is night and day vs Jakks. And inflation absolutely affects things. Plus, the cost of manufacturing these figures increases every year. I think Mattel's early lines were garbage for their character selection. But the quality of the actual figures were fine. The majority of the head sculpts were spot on. Were there some inaccuracies? Sure. There still are. But nothing as bad as Jakks. And unless you're really young or quit collecting and recently returned, you're probably the only person on Earth who jumped to Mattel for Rikishi.

I loved Jakks when it was current. I loved CS, and even bought figures of then-current guys I'd never have bought like the Bashams and Douche and Domino. For every bit of garbage they released they also released double that in sub-par, passable stuff. There was also some great stuff thrown in for good measure. At the end of the day, they made it easy, and fun, to knock them and Mattel on their worst day don't even reach the same ballpark of shame as Jakks on their worst day. Regardless they were all we had for a long time, they served us pretty well overall and aside from the really really bad, most of their stuff was about as average as most of Mattel's for it's time.
Best of the best: BCA 2 Mankind (great for the time, even had the scar) BCA Tag LOD (again, great for the time BCA Droz Unchained Fury Hurricane TTL 5 Ministry Undertaker TTL Rikishi TTL Series 4 Big Show TTL Razors Edge Kurt Angle and Hulk Hogan House of Pain ABA Undertaker Perry Saturn Raven (first) R3 Kurt Angle (Draft being the best) R3 Test R3 Blly and Chuck R3 Christian R3 Rikishi R3 Kane R3 Jeff Hardy Treacherous Trios Kurt Angle Ringside Rivals William Regal (suited) Ringside Rivals Bradshaw (as far as I know, the ONLY APA figure in Acolytes ring attire) LvI Hulk Hogan RA 4 Hurricane Bad Blood Kane Late Mold Rey Mysterios (shorter and bulkier, very good body mold) Later Mold Batistas (always seemed to nail his head and the muscley torso was perfect) John Morrison RA 26 Regal Off the Ropes old Ric Flair (perfect head, RA 26 Regal body) CS 1 Warrior (basically the line-seller. Mattel Legends 1 didn't have a figure that good, but the Road Warriors were close) CS 7 Andre the Giant CS 6 Doink CS 2 Flair CS 2 George Steele real feel (better than Mattel's version that they pissed on and then rolled in cigarette ash for the hair) King Harley Race (PERFECT, FLAWLESS aside from the crown. Proper crown was later released with King Bookah) CS 4 Yoko CS Andy Kaufman CS Lance Storm CS Mabel CS British Bulldogs single card in t shirts CS Haku (although the crown cast in purple and adding Race's cape would make it a GOAT fig contender) CS Announcer Jesse Ventura CS 2 pack DX CS 2 Pack LOD CS 3 Pack Demolition to name just a few
near misses
RA 1 Brock Lesnar (weird face, wrong boots, everything else is perfect) Tommy Dreamer (ripped body t shirt torso, otherwise perfect) Johnny Stamboli (very much wrong torso under a perfect head and good legs) Bam Bam Bigelow (perfect minus the Yoko arms) Hollywood Hogan (perfect minus the molded shirt torso) Mr. Perfect (really good minus the giant size and strange attire choice) Screwjob Bret Hart (they never really got his face right, did they? This is better than the first Scott Bakula face) Diesel (perfect but extremely short) CS Razor Ramon (perfect aside from the tiny r3 Scott Hall ponytail head) to name a few
Worst of the Worst:
Burt Angle special gogo boot Edge Naked Mark Henry R3 scoliosis torso figures such as Draft Scott Hall, r3 1 Austin, nWo Hollywood Hogan R3 series 3 Chris Benoit in black slacks black hair Ric Flair BOWCW Chris Benoit obese Vader obese Earthquake obese Typhoon obese Samoans obese Shockmaster pretty much every figure besides Yoko and Mabel/Viscera/Big Daddy V that had the Yoko body every single 7' tall suited fig CS 1 Andre (why release this? the epitome of laziness) Adrenaline 13 (ttl arms with NO ELBOW JOINT!!!!!!) Survivor Series John Cena (first PROPER rapper Cena in jorts....ttl arms) BCA Jeff Jarrett with Owen Hart head, terribly inaccurate 'Don't make me mad' guitar, and singlet top far too short Killer Kowalski Brock Lesnar body Ted DiBiase RA 7 Randy Orton Adrenaline Dusty/Cody...particularly the Dusty (Huge head in a little torso...Huge head in a little torsooooo) the entire first 3 series of TTL, pre real scan, pre elbow joint..including and particularly Raw Heat!! BCA Dr. Death the entire DA line, including CSDA. Dishonourable mention to CSDA Big John Studd, CSDA balloon head Scott Hall, CSDA balloon head Jake Roberts, CSDA with terrible screaming head scan Hulk Hogan to name a few

Rikishi is one of Mattel's most popular and most accurate figures. My point is there is no reason to now crap on Jakks because Mattel has made some good figures. Both companies have made good figures and their own mistakes. And this has nothing to do with age. That is irrelevant. How am I young if I collected Jakks through their entire run?

I meant you might be young if you just started collecting Mattel when Rikishi came out. But if that really is the figure that got you onboard, more power to you. To each their own. Either way, you're taking this thread too seriously. It's all in good fun. But Jakks really was shyt. We had to make do because there was nothing better at the time. But they did not age well. I think Mattel will age better in the eyes of those who collected them. But yes, they still have their duds as well, just less so than Jakks.

From the time I had figures bought for myself from 2007-2011, I didn't see much of a problem with the Jakks figures at the time before Mattel took over, because they were the best wrestling figures available at the time. I got 5 Mattel figures, then I stopped doing stop motion altogether.
However now that I'm buying wrestling figures on occasion now purely as Birthday and Christmas presents for young relatives, and Mattel have had 6 years worth of figures, it amazes me how the Mattel figures are just miles and miles ahead of the Jakks line. Looking back on them, the Jakks Pacific figures were crap, to put it kindly, and just don't come anywhere close to Mattel figures. Mattel figures are just excellent, and I don't see anything at all to complain about. Mattel figures are double the price of the Jakks figures, but toys are far more expensive in general today than they were 10 years ago. However I think it's entirely acceptable to pay Mattel's prices, because you're buying something of high quality, rather than some crap thrown together by a company who loved to cut as many corners as they could, in the case of Jakks Pacific.

I'm still a Jakks fan overall. Some of their features still amuse me to this day. So far as I know, Mattel has not put out a "furry" George the Animal Steele. That is one thing I never expected to see on a figure, and it was even early in the CS line! Also, until the Big Show / Andre Battle Pack, I hadn't seen any Mattel heads of Andre that seemed to do him justice. I realize the first CS Andre looked like the brother from Everybody Loves Raymond, but when they brought him out in his blue tights, that was the defining Andre for me, and still is. Otherwise, I liked the fact that even "basic" Jakks figures usually came with at least one crazy accessory, so you could crown somebody with a trashcan lid, or water cooler jug, or something of the like. I don't see that with Mattel so much, unless you're paying for the Elite line. I also notice that Hillbilly Jim from Jakks and Hillbilly Jim from Mattel both sport some nice cloth overalls. So there are some parallels. Sure, Jakks cut some corners and produced some lousy figures, but by and large, a lot of people probably didn't buy them if they didn't like them. The same can be said of Mattel's lines, there are some misses, and folks pass them up.
One nice thing about Mattel, they are still working to build rosters of both current and classic wrestlers, and so we will be the better for it in the end! Will this cause me to get rid of my Jakks collection? I'm afraid not, but I did go out for their version of Kamala over Jakks', and also loved the APA's accessories in the elite line. Be glad we had the Jakks lines, it gave us a yardstick to compare what we like, and what we don't. Otherwise, who knows what Mattel would be turning out without a past competitor over which to raise the bar.
