Omega's comment about wanting to wrestle AJ Styles at Wrestlemania, and that being one of his ultimate goals, makes me think he's WWE bound. I very much doubt he'll be at the Rumble, but that goal is very specific and there is undoubtedly a time limit on it. Styles is pushing 40, we have no idea how much time he has left as a full time, or even part time worker. We also know how long it could theoretically take for the powers that be to move forward with a match like that. It just seems like he needs to get his foot in the door now if that dream has any possibility of becoming a reality.
Also, it's worth noting that he said he has almost no interest in spending time in NXT.

he's 75% sure of his choice. He's staying. How could WWE sway him that much? But if he signed just a 3 year deal with WWE he could still return to NJPW by age 36/37. Still not too old

The only thing I dislike about this is that we've had enough new guys coming in and taking the spots of legitimately better workers. Why should Kenny Omega come to WWE and be given a World Title over Sheamus?

No need to be top of the mountain Day 1

Very interesting answer. He doesn't say he'll be there but he also doesn't say he won't be there. Also stirs the pot more. I'm not sure if there's any NJPW fans that don't watch WWE, but this could get even more eyes on the event if his status is still unclear come Sunday I think there's definitely some negotiating going on. WWE would be silly not to and launch him right into the main event scene for Mania. Would love to see it

Omega has told Meltzer and Alvarez that he is staying with New Japan. He's flying out in mid-February to renegotiate his deal, but it will only be a one year contract.

I don't mean to be a conspiracy theorist here, but... why does that make any sense? If he's returning to New Japan then why is he going to push his contract start date further into Mania season for the following year when NJPW contracts traditionally renew on 1/31? Also, why would he say he picked New Japan over WWE if he hasn't accepted an actual New Japan offer? All of his leverage for more money would be gone if he's still going there to negotiate. I'm happy either way because ether we get to see him win the title in Japan or he wrestles at Mania. However, based on what he's saying in interviews, from one to the next, this has just become an I need to see it, to believe it, type of deal.

Yes, It's on his Twitter... Pretty bummed about but it's only for a year. He's gonna go back to NJPW finish what he has yet to accomplished and I think he'll be in the WWE at this time next year. He has a good point as this years Royal Rumble is filled with major stars and he does not want to be over-looked. Hoping for that Styles/Omega feud next year at 'Mania.

Hopefully it's just a major swerve and we do see him in the Rumble.

Kenny Omega appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio today and revealed that he is close to re-signing with New Japan Pro Wrestling for another year and will not be appearing at this Sunday's WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
"I will not be at the Royal Rumble," Omega said. "I don't want people to have this false hope of me showing up in the Royal Rumble and then not being there and being disappointed when there's a fantastic match happening with fantastic competitors. I don't want the lack of me being in that to disappoint people."
Omega noted that he hasn't finalized terms for a new contract with New Japan, however he will be flying out to Japan in mid-February to re-negotiate and "it's looking positive." He admitted that while there's a small chance that the deal could fall through, it's looking like he will be staying with New Japan for one more year. He said that he still feels like there are things in Japan that are unfinished. He added that WWE's roster is stacked and he feels like he can make more of an impact in New Japan rather than WWE.
There's his quote.

The word is coming from Omega directly, not Meltzer. He told Meltzer and Alvarez in a call in interview, which is available to listen. He could, of course, be working people, but he sounded very genuine. He said he feels like he has more to accomplish there.

He's so good at it, nobody can solve his riddles to cross the bridge.
