Source: News 13 Orlando A Poinciana middle school is downplaying safety concerns after reports of a student who brought a "kill list" to class, though some parents aren’t taking the allegations lightly.
Michelle Spangler's 14-year-old twins attend Renaissance Charter School at Poinciana and lately, safety has been on her mind.
“I made a decision not to send my kids to school the next day, because I personally did not feel safe,” Spangler said. “I still today do not feel safe.”
The incident was reported to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office last Thursday, but her twins didn't return to school until Wednesday. Spangler was alarmed when she heard one of her kids tell her that a “kid wrote a list, and it includes most of the kids on the football team, and he wants to shoot them,” Spangler said. “And I am like, 'Oh my God.' ”
The Sheriff's Office incident report said deputies contacted the student who created the list and his family. According to the report, the family claims the boy got the idea from watching World Wrestling Entertainment and mimicking pro wrestler Chris Jericho, whose gimmick is that he keeps "The List," a list of people he dislikes. The family said the boy had no intention of harming anyone.
"A 14-year-old does not just write a list because it's just a list. We're not in kindergarten, saying, 'This kid is not my friend anymore.' He literally knew what he was doing," Spangler said.
Although the school would not go into specifics about what happened or whether any disciplinary actions are being taken, they sent out an automated call to parents and guardians saying, “We are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that proper measures are taken.”
In a statement, a school spokesperson said, “These concerns are all based on rumors, and we are not going to proliferate these rumors any further.”
But Spangler said she thinks the incident is being swept under the rug. “There is a true safety issue here,” she added. “They’re here eight hours of the day, and now I have to go to work and hope and pray nothing is going to happen today.”
A spokesperson for Renaissance Charter at Poinciana recommends any concerned parents speak to the school principal.

A friend of mine had a 'hit list' in school. It was all fun and games, he listed our maths teacher and his cat. That was before school shootings totally became a thing though. And in England. I can understand how a parent should be worried about something about that.

Stupid excuse IMO. Having a "kill list" isn't normal.

it sounds like a serious issue but stuff like the "Kill List" has been existing way before Jericho even incorporated it in his character.

A Enemies List is fine, but a Kill List is really stepping over the line.
For historical context, former President Richard M. Nixon had two Enemies Lists. On his first list was Paul Newman, the same guy who sells pasta sauce and lemonade and donates the proceeds to charity.

Steve Buschemi had a list in Billy Madison. Oliver Queen had a list in Arrow. Uma Thurman had a list in Kill Bill. Let's blame them too.
These hit lists have existed for as long as I can remember. Pretty sure a kid in my class had one when I was in 3rd grade.
What I never got about people that took them seriously is that if you hate someone so much that you want to kill them, couldn't you just remember that without having to write it down?

Pretty ridiculous. So if my kid goes to school and hits someone with a chair , then says Kevin Owens inspired me to do it, should they ban chair shots? Wwe runs a viewers discretion advised and dont try this at home commercial each Raw. ( at least in Canada they do). I also take my kids to live events and watch wrestling with them. I make it crystal clear that what they're watching is scripted. How it's entertainment and how he should never try to copy anything he sees. Don't think WWE should take any blame for this whatsoever. As a parent, you should monitor what your kids watch. Just my opinion

As a parent, you should monitor what your kids watch. Just my opinion Yeah the warnings do protect them from liability, but they do still have to watch what they show. In this case they shouldn't be blamed. The list of Jericho was a list of people Jericho was going to complain about, not kill. However, when they have skits with the New Day (the good guys) essentially bullying Titus (the bad guy), it does kind of give kids the message that it's ok to laugh at people and not let them into your group when they've done nothing to you. WWE should take a look at the messages they send out based on their faces and heels. Here are some examples: - Roman Reigns. Ruins Rusev and Lana's wedding celebration and gets Lana knocked into a cake, humiliating her. WWE tells you to cheer for Roman. - Enzo Amore. Talks trash about everyone. Walks up to Lana naked, goes to her hotel room with the thought of sleeping with Rusev's wife. WWE tells you to cheer for Enzo. - Rusev. Fights Roman and later Enzo with the intent of standing up for his wife and defending her honor. WWE tells you to boo him. - John Cena. Allows morning show hosts to refer to Styles as "some guy from Georgia" and completely craps on everything AJ has done in his career. WWE tells you to cheer him. - AJ Styles. Puts on amazing matches and backs up everything he says he is. Believes he's the best around and makes it hard to argue against him. WWE tells you to boo him. - New Day. Humiliated Titus and don't allow him to join up with them for no real reason. They laugh at him and replay probably the most humiliating moment from his career. WWE tells you to cheer them. - Titus. Gets humiliated, laughed at, excluded, and bullied. WWE tells you to boo him. Be A Star.

Steve Buschemi had a list in Billy Madison. Literally the first thing I thought of. That was 22 years ago too. Lists aren't new. However, if you need to keep a list of people you hate/want to hurt/want to kill...that absolutely is indicative of a deeply rooted mental issue. Plus, if you have to keep a list to remember, how bad was it? There are things that have happened to me in my life that I'll probably remember until the day I die. Perceived slights are not among those things.

So, sounds to me like this kid is probably a loner and a wrestling fan, and he, like most of us, enjoys The List of Jericho. Being fourteen (14 year olds are pretty weird, lets be real) and probably having few friends, he decides to entertain himself by creating his own List of people he doesn't like. Kids talk about it, in front of their parents, and because he's a loner, the kids say he's gonna "shoot them or something". Crazy over-protective mom (though I can't blame her in this day and age) hears that and tries to get this kid in serious trouble.
Seems like a lot of misunderstandings. At no point was this confirmed to be a "kill list" or anything. The fact that the mom's excuse for saying the list is malicious is because they're in middle school and not elementary anymore? Lol, yeah, 14 year olds are soooo mature
