some DX 99 musings......
Chynas double turn and HHHs turn @ WM15 is certainly one of the most shocking heel turns ever. The crowd despised Trips for it.....I rank it on the top 5 because NOBODY seen it coming.
The NAO getting back together with no explanation in Oct was a bit random I have to say....then re-joining HHH in the heel DX....BUT I enjoyed DX being the top heel clique from Oct 99 through Summer 2000 when HHH stepped away from them again.
I understand backstage HHH despised the decision to reform DX as his heel entourage but IMO he needed them and they all played the heel role well. Weird that Chyna was left out though?

Chyna was getting pushed harder than any member of DX not named HHH going into the fall of 1999. She started her feud with Jarrett for the Intercontinental title and was becoming one of the most over people on the entire roster. They probably wanted to see how much they could profit off of her popularity and an abrupt heel switch would've derailed that momentum. She was truly one-of-a-kind.

Its just for me it was weird from a storyline POV to see DX reunite and her not be involved in any way. Also her separation from HHH onscreen prior to that without any explanation was weird too...... But hey that's 99!!

But hey that's 99!! I agree. Her on-screen split with HHH after SummerSlam was never explained which is kind of annoying. They left DX together in the storyline so HHH could finally become a main event player. Triple H finally won the belt and then they went their seperate ways. People always look back and assume it was due to the budding romance between HHH and Stephanie that split them apart, but their real-life relationship didn't even begin until early 2000.

Yeah Ive heard a LOT of people say that but it isn't the case. In Jerichos 2nd book he talks about feuding with Chyna and how HHH was super protective of her backstage etc etc. Lots of folks have said HHH & steph didn't start until around WM2000......and that it didn't become officially public until Summer 2000.

From what I remember at the end of No Mercy/ the night before DX reunited she pulled up in a car at the parking lot to help HHH escape Austin so they were still together until that point. Chyna was getting huge and over big time but her being left out of DX should'v been mention on screen because it was just too weird.

Yeah its like...I don't object to her being excluded but hell yes they needed to explain her separation from HHH & not being included in the DX reunion.

What would've been good if the Smackdown after they reunite DX corner Chyna backstage and ask why she has been so distant. She tells them that she's over them and wants to go on her own but they refuse to listen and for the next few weeks they interfere in her matches and help her win which results in her finally snapping and attacking them. It also would've been cool is she sided with Rock, Austin, Foley, Kane, the Hardyz, Too Cool etc in the battle against them over the following months.

I was a fan of the Attitude Era as every Monday night you knew something big would happen in terms of angles/shock value is concerned but without question as far as in-ring wrestling goes during that time period it was atrocious to say the least especially in 99. It's certainly far from worst era but I do think it's overrated.

99 had a lot of missteps and stuff that went nowhere.....no doubt.

1999 did have a lot of crap but you can't deny that the main event and tag team scenes were beyond epic. The main event scene had Austin, Rock, Mankind, HHH, Undertaker and Austin's injury paved the way for other stars. Then look at the tag team division you had NAO, APA, Hardyz, Dudleyz, Too Cool, Edge and Christian, Kane and X Pac.
Both those scenes were much better than 1998 and there was a far bigger variety in each division.
The hardcore division was fun too and the backstage fights were very enjoyable too.

Kennel From Hell match. Nuff said! See too many people try to focus on the bad and ignore all the good stuff that happened. Did Katie Vick overshadow all the stuff that happened on Raw in 2002? Or what about Dawn Marie and Al Wilson, did that ruin Smackdown that entire year?

Oh, there was plenty good that year - Royal Rumble, Austin finally kicks Vince's ass, Undertaker, The Rock, Ascension of Triple H and his heel turn, the Triple,H/ Steph marriage, Kane. Lots of bad, too, though. Like any year.
