I don't understand that sentiment with O'Reilly. Kev tried to claim that same thing. I think O'Reilly actually won the title at exactly the right time. His reDRagon run ended and then he immediately got a shot at the title. Then he jumped back into the feud with Adam Cole, while still chasing the title. He beat
ing Shibata. Then he ran down the BC and Cole to close out 2016. All of that, and I think he was the less talented half of reDRagon. But that wasn't a Tyler Black situation where you were like "FINALLY..."
I don't think ROH is losing talent because of money. They're losing talent because everyone wants to go to WWE. Especially a guy like Adam Cole, who has run the gauntlet in ROH. The one last thing he wanted to do was go to Japan. He got his WK match and all of this recent stuff with the BC. So now it's onto the next thing, which is obviously the number one promotion in the world. Cole was always going to be a WWE guy, it was just a matter of time.
I've never gotten the impression that ROH has ever had financial trouble, or a lack of money to bring guys in, at least not since Cary sold the company. If the Bucks are making 4-5 times what WWE offered them to come to NXT, and half of that money is coming from ROH, then it's not like they're not able to pay good money for talent. They're paying Cody for one-offs too. I can't imagine that's cheap. I don't know, they don't seem like they're hurting and paying the Hardys for a month, or two, doesn't seem that unrealistic to me.
The Hardys being in ROH long-term does seem unrealistic to me, primarily because I definitely think they're going back to WWE. I'm not really buying what Meltzer is selling, to be honest. I don't think there is any motivation from Matt and Jeff to sign actual contracts with ROH. I think this is all part of the angle they are working and to build suspense for Supercard of Honor. Matt and Jeff are huge stars and they aren't going to tie themselves down to one thing right now unless it's WWE.
