I'm always a little confused by this sort of thing. Don't you just set a max price and go okay this is my limit and what something is worth to me? Maybe u bid very late (sniper), but if the seller bits over what u at prepared to pay for it, then who cares? I get u wanna get things at the lowest price possible, but the beauty of ebay is NOTHING is ever a one off. It might take a while but u always have the opportunity to buy again. Maybe I'm strange though, cause I don't have an issue scalpers either. If they get there first more power to them... Isn't that what RSC does, first to market and charger a higher price? Again no issue with it.
I'm going to get a lot of cranky responses to this, and I don't mean to PO anyone. I just think at the end of the day, if u set a limit to what you will spend, and u miss out cause some either thinks it's worth more or is willing to pay more, that's life.

A lot of the time shill bidders will bid on their items to see what the genuine bidder has bid, then retract that and bid slightly below the genuine bidder to get the maximum price.

A shill bidder is someone who bids on their own auction through a fake account to artificially raise the price of auctions. To build on this, The seller can do a second offer to you (the real bidder) and ask if you would like the figure for the second top bid. Yeah you (the real bidder) did put a max offer of "x" dollars, but you could have gotten the auction for a lot less. Personal, I just set prices I want, without "best offer", and sometimes people will still message me an offer, much easier to lower a price than gamble on good will.

First if I was actually going to bid on something on eBay I wouldn't bid until the last possible minute and not go any higher than what I was willing to spend. If I win it great if not I didn't lose anything. That said I would never bid on anything early and I certainly wouldn't get into a bidding war.

I was looking for some photography gear recently, and unfortunately all the sellers who have the item I want are actually just accounts owned by a single seller in my state. He shill bids on all his items across all the accounts, and if he doesnt like the final price he cancels your bids and relists.
Like...cripes, how much time and energy do these people waste just to make an extra 2 dollars? Good luck selling that flimsy piece of cloth for $30, douchebags lol

Rarely do I ever bid on auctions because if stupid sh*t like this but Ive gotten pretty lucky sometimes. Loose TRU Rollins for 19.00, RSC Stone cold mib for 23.00 but other than that I prefer "buy it now" all the way.

I rarely auction. Buy it now is the best way to go.

If I see something I want and people keep outbidding me, I bid up super high with no intentions of buying just so they can have to spend a ton of money. I like watching the world burn what can I say. Don't care.

As a customizer if your work is decent enough you don't even need to put yourself in that predicament and bid on your own item.

Lol - funny some of u guys took my comment as though I need an education in what shill bidding is. I am aware of the practice, and know what it is. I just don't have an issue with. Something is worth what someone will pay for it. If a seller or a friend there of out bids u, then the item isn't worth that much to u. So just pass on it and move on. If they bid u up, and u win, I'm sorry but more power to them. U should set your limit and once it goes beyond it, move on.
Again, it's only my opinion so please don't think I'm trying to set anyone off. I have to use the bay a lot to get the figures I want, and living in Australia I am very well aware of the tricks out there (Over priced shipping for one). I just think if u are disciplined using ebay and other sites u won't fall victim to these tactics.

Yeah, a life not worth living! Goodbye, cruel world, I'm leaving you today. Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye. (And I wish scalpers would just kill themselves instead of making the world a worse place.)
