What would be a recommended paint for painting the posts on the elite ring? And is it a good idea to paint them?
I would prefer some sort of spray paint over brushing (better looking)

Assuming the ring posts are made of hard ABS plastic, like LEGO elements are, you can use almost anything. Sand the post with fine sandpaper, wash it, and spray it.
I don't know about durability though. If you're gonna smack it often, the paint is going to chip no matter what, unless you dunk it in epoxy sealer, like they use to protect floors.
Try VHT Vinyl Dye if they have the color you need. It's like 8 bucks a can.
